I would love to see a comparison in terms of durability. If I made a shelf with each, which would hold up the best?

Great video's. dose it make a difference because your using water based paints on water resistant MDF . Only a thought not being critical.

Solvent based paints dont raise the grain where as water based do. I was expecting the MR to be close to the finsa, not sure why it wasnt

Very good video. Aside from paint finishes on the various types of mdf , do you have any issues when drilling the 35mm hinge hole on the standard mdf compared to the rest?

Hi, and thank you! This mdf we use is pretty good and drills quite nicely with the hinge cutter 👍👍

@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop I was just curious. I'm in the middle of a media wall build for a family member using Caberwood trade MDF. The new 35mm cutter was struggling to drill compared to what I'm used to, very fluffy once you get below the surface. Other than that it seems ok material.

What results would you get if you moulded the mdf then sprayed it with high build primer then re machined with the router cutter?

Great video 👍 I am with you on what one value for money. Just one little point regarding the finsa mrmdf. The faces are they moisture resistant because they look like a venneer of ordinary mdf.🤔🤔🤔

Finsa all day long, rarely touch standard even though my suppler supplies top quality. In terms of cost it's nothing like 3x more expensive😂 MR for carcasses, finsa for (proper) doors, frontals, End panels and trim etc...

Worth every penny if you want to be at the top of your game and produce the best that you can. If you 'can' get a better finish then you should. When im charging £1800-2000 per linear metre for bespoke furniture then the client will get the best possible material & finish money can buy. £45ish plus vat for a sheet of Finsa 18mm isnt breaking the bank.

I posted a message above and then read your message. I'm a Joiner so most of my work is solid timber based rather than sheet materials. I'm paying more like £33.00+vat for Finsa, £35.00 +vat for Medite MRMDF and £30.00+vat for cheap standard crap........ I totally agree with what you say , especially when you consider the vast majority of the costs involved in 95% of jobs is Labour. You can make a fair amount of stuff with 10 sheets of MRMDF and IMO it certainly saves on extra labour of finishing a product when you have a better quality base material.

@AdrianSams I don't know how you call it cheap crap, did you not watch the video showing the finishes I got work near enough identical. If I was making Mouldings or using in a kitchen or bathroom, then I'd buy finsa. But my finishes I get with exactly the same amount of work as the finsa is amazing. No brainer for me, and my video proves this.
@AdrianSams

@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop So how much are you paying for standard (what make is important too ,which you've never said) how much for Medite MRMDF and how much for Finsa Hydrofugo per sheet?. Lastly, to anyone who actually looked and knows their job would know/see they were not identical. "Cheap crap" was reference to many of the stuff they sell at the sheds and builders merchants. Also how much work did it take to get them all to the same standard. I look forward to your reply.

@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop sorry but I've seen the finish you get on your videos and even though it's not in the flesh it's very evident it's not great. It's working for you so you have no reason to change your system so fair play.

There is slight texture with this paint but the overall finish would is still very good. Im using household/off the shelf type eggshells etc. This video is mainly to compare mdf types, and I found by spraying low, medim and high quality mdf, the finishes im getting were all the same. Cheers Ryan

For fitted wardrobes and draw units you make it not always worth using hydro, but for kitchens and bathrooms it is. Paint wise if you know how to sand flat properly and use good paints you can get a flat finish on any board. Is that MR caber? Coz that’s the worse board ever made 🤦‍♂️
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop

Yep well said. I'm not sure about the m.r, but I've uses lots of it over the year from different places and I always tend to get the same finish, which isn't the best compared to the others

In the video you mention that FINSA costs 3x(300%) more than standard MDF. Is that correct?. If so then I think you should look into your suppliers. I've just checked the prices of FINSA Hydrofugo and 3 months ago I paid £33.00+vat for an 8x4 sheet, Medite MRMDF was £35.00+vat and standard was £30.00+vat............. I really fail to understand your logic ,unless as I said your suppliers are pully a fast one. Incidentally I'm a Joiner so most of my work is timber based rather than sheet based so I don't high volumes.

@@paulgray3231 Nope I paid for 18mm. I've never bought more than 10 sheets at a time. My last order iirc was about 3 months ago and was from brooks bros. They didn't have Medite which I prefer so I had Finsa Hydrofugo. I don't think I've ever used 15mm to be honest, mostly 18mm, 12mm and 9mm. All the best Ade.

@@paulgray3231 One final point, I spend around £12-15k a year with Lathams, mainly with their timberside. Their sheets side charged me £100 delivery charge 8 weeks ago on my order of 10 sheets so I no longer deal with their sheet side. Brooks brothers are far better. Lathams have lost my business for sheets and possibly solid timber too. Worth a call though and good luck.
