It's a bummer that you've got all those little plastic strips mixed in. Good things your wormies are helping to shove those things up onto the surface to make it easier for you to pluck them out :) It should be interesting to see if freezing helps the apples along to the finish line....

Running an experiment here with frozen worm-rritos. Excessive amounts of food scraps wrapped in sheets of kids' schoolwork. Hoping they are loved as much as the stuffed tp tubes I've seen on other channels.

I have found cooked, and then frozen items (specifically one test with banana skins and pumpkin pieces) are consumed quicker than just one of these processes. Hence, I freeze and thaw my meal scraps before feeding my congregation. 😊

Hey Anne! That's a decent handful of grown up worms you've got from the 'juice collection tray'. They sure will help in the working tray. ;) EDIT: Just checked my collection tray, just emptied 2 weeks ago and here they're all again... 😂 I'd go with all frozen any day, if the freezer compartment wasn't choke full bc of... ice cream boxes. But we're planning on getting a real freezer soon (or shall we say, I'm giving in to my wife 😅). Subscribed already boss! 🙌 Cheers, have a great week! 🪱🪱☀️ -Thomas

I like that experiment, especially with apples since they seem to take a while and attract mite populations in my bin! My guess is frozen goes first. I love the mystery riser question mark & exclamation point😂This tower is producing some great castings!! Good worms for helping you with all that plastic...what a pain!! Excellent video Ann!!🪱🪱🪱

You have me really thinking about making those little risers for my Vermihut. I like the experiment, I would figure the frozen would go faster but who knows what the worms will do. I’m with you it’s easier to add some bedding to the bottom and clean it out every once in a while. 😁🪱🪱

awesome info. can i use wheat flour that you make bread from ( non self raising), corn flour that is used for say cake making, breakfast porridge oats, left over bread and chicken pallets? i keep finding alot of worms in and under the lid of my worm cafe (3 stack) and i believe its because of the humidity thats sealed inside the top tier that they love to crawl onto (also in the lip of the lid)? i prefer the open tray method but they tend to migrate all over the place and here i believ people use desk lamps turned on so they dont escape whilst the lids off as they are photo-phobic creatures that hate the light?
@PlantObsessed

I use regular flour corn and wheat. No problem. I also have worms on the lid. I agree it is the moisture. The layers are so thin I'm afraid it will dry out of I leave the lid off.🪱😁👍🏼

Waiting on the Apple test! Vegetable scraps are frozen on my end simply because I have more scraps than the worms can eat. Getting ready to "emulate" Blue in a old dead freezer. Think your Blue worm bin is the way to go!

Your tower is really producing a lot of awesome castings. I find plastics in my natural bedding too, from raking up leaves, if the worms don't eat it it should not be in the garden. Freezing explodes the cell walls of the food, makes it more available to the microbes and the worms. This time of year, most of the food my worms get come out of the garden, the natural bedding has a ton of microbes that help break things down, 90% never makes it to the freezer. I had to start maintaining bedding below my CFT bin, started finding a few worms down there, now when I feed, I do what you do, take the bedding with the worms and put back on top. Nice video! Stay Well!!!

Thank you. The plastic drives me a bit nuts. I live near a park so I have more trash in my yard than most people. If the worms kick it out no bueno for me either. 🪱😃👍🏼

I've always found frozen foods get broken down faster so my money is on the frozen apples being finished first. Those envelope windows are a pain! (or should that be pane - you know window) I normally rip them off before shredding, but getting other folks to do that just isn't gonna happen. Thanks for a great update. Cheers!

I was given a worm tower and I borrowed your idea of using the pvc risers for the stackable trays. It sure helps to keep the trays from getting stuck. Also, I added fresh grass clippings with the shredded paper for my ENCs and they are loving it. We shall see if the castings and breeding will be successful. Thanks for your videos and valuable information. 😊

Lol, frozen Mrs. Gerry's buckets for worm feed. I've hatched a plan to empty my freezer. My employer doesn't care. Plus I work early. Btw using that is what killed my worms. It needs to be semi fresh, not chopped swamp water!
