Personally, what annoys me most about Geeta isn’t how underwhelming her team was. It’s how she doesn’t even use her team even SLIGHTLY optimally. I find it tough to take the line "I am incapable of holding back" seriously when she has a hazard setter, and uses it LAST. Is "incapable of holding back" her way of saying "I slam my head into a brick wall without strategy until it breaks"?

You could make an argument. Our rival held back on her during their fight. It’s kinda crazy that Geeta is like number three as a Champion of a region. All the other Champs were clear number one until our protagonists defeated them.

@@nnightkingj That's literally not true though. In all previous regions, the role of champion is passed on when the previous champion is defeated. By definition, those champions must never be defeated in official league matches, or they are no longer the champion, they're just a former champion(unless they take up the title again due to the current champion abandoning the position like Red and Hilbert/Hilda do). The "undefeated champion" title Leon had was the result of Galar running its league like pro sports, and does not imply that champions in previous regions were not also undefeated(They were for the most part.)

The way I see it, the E4 and Champion section of the game is this cold, strict, traditional exam in an empty office. There’s no one around to watch the final battle. But then the fight the player has against Nemona right after is this spontaneous, high stakes battle in front of the school they both spent so much time in. So many people are gathered to watch and if you do this at night, the streets are lit up. I think the contrast between these two fights was on purpose. Also, Gimmighoul Coin sounds like some dumb cryptocurrency.

True! That was probably really intentional, since basically every Champion battle up until Sword and Shield was conducted inside closed doors away from the public view. Her battle theme was also very "traditional-Pokemon" sounding (with some Spanish flare ofc). Maybe her battle and Nemona's battles were a contrast to show us that the old way of doing Pokémon leagues is a bit outdated.

The anime has a habit of changing Champions teams a little bit like when they gave Leon all 3 Galar Starters, Lance getting additional Dragons, and even Kukuri's team in SM anime was pretty different as well. Hel they might give Geeta a better team than her game self.

@@kaylevy7107 Gosh I love Alder. My personal fav next to Steven. And it's funny that thematically, although stoic, Alder seems like the antithesis to Geeta. Super free willed, carefree and aloof, compassionate, and emotionally and mentally vulnerable. All these things that made him complex and lose to N and made the fandom dislike him and think of him as one of the weakest champs(plus the fact that in a way hes a sort of understated Bug type user which I find fascinating). And yet I think even Alder would have a good laugh after he battled Geeta and won. And give some life lesson shhpeal and then jump off of a massive cliff face lol

It should be noted that over half the Gym Leaders say they outright don't like Geeta which is interesting. No other champion has ever been really disliked by the characters themselves. Also I'm sure Geeta is a part of the Area Zero plot since down there it says only a few know where Terrastlize pokenalls come from and Geeta is definitely one of them since she's the Chairwoman of the Legaue and Schools. Also she owns Glimmora as her Ace which is fought by you and Nemona in Area Zero despite it not being a paradox poekmon like the others you fight off. And in Violet, Glimmora's dex entry states it has terratlize energy naturally so I defiantly think Geeta will play a big role in the DLC story

Most of them are either supportive mentor types or independent people focused on their own goals, who happen to be really good with Pokémon. Now I haven’t played all the games, but I can’t think of any who exert this kind of command over the rest of their League.

SPOILERS AHEAD: I still think there's more to Geeta's story than we've seen. There's hints that the "time machine" might actually be a "dream engine," making the wielder's ideal world a reality, and Geeta makes a pretty prominent point of saying that Paldea in its current state is her ideal world. Add to that the fact that she could very well be an actual *modern* robot, unlike the Terastilized android in Area Zero, and it starts to make sense that the areas of Paldea she has the most influence on start to seem a little...cold.

Would explain the yellow squares in her eyes And maybe her team is so terrible because she's so obsessed with tailoring a nice easy path for the trainers, that she purposely nerfed herself by picking a bunch of questionable decisions, or she wants to speed things up by lowering the difficulty a lot Her fight is very contrary to the Elite 4, she's really the only one holding back, and there's no way near as much emotion in her fight and aftermath compared to the others, as if she mechanically reacts and answers according to the situation to not appear motionless, and just wants to move on to the next thing on the list and make sure her plan follows accordingly

I think Game Freak tried to make her a Champion like Leon that loves battling and motivate the player to fight and become stronger, but even him has more personality and takes more part in the games story. Glimmora is a Pokémon that appears in the Area Zero, so It was weird for me that she didn't took any participation there (or I haven't seen It at the moment, I haven't ended the post-game). It could have been a great Champion if she had helped in the end of the story and not only be just a Champion in the Pokemon league.

The pre-evolution of Glimmora can be found outside of Area Zero, she could have caught one and evolved it. But yeah considering that she's the head of the League and the School Board, she'd be more connected to Area Zero considering (SPOILERS) Clavell knows about what you did at the end of the game and has to keep it secret, so you'd think Geeta knows too 🤔

@@KoalaTulip47 Yea, probably she would have then catched It outside Area Zero, but even Nemona mentions that Geeta has one of them at the point of the story where you are exploring Area Zero and a Glimmora attacks you in front of a laboratory. That details hint the possibility of her catching It there, and It's very underwhealming not relating her with that place. Would be very cool a post-game with her exploring more of the Area Zero and the Paradox Pokémon. Hopefully in the future Dlc that people talks about, Game Freak gives her more relevance.

My Skeledirge basically swept her team only being taken out by Kingambit due to it not going first and not having enough health. The battle against Nemona was really good and challenging. Honestly I think the best storyline out the three was the Titan path. I originally found Arven annoying, but the more time I spent with him and the more that was revealed of his past he quickly became my favourite new character. That’s a good character growth storyline, introducing a character that is kind of annoying all for you to end up loving them by the end. Pokémon did really well with the final story battle as well. The one against the corrupted AI Sada was really challenging and the final battle between our Koraidon and the alpha one was really well done.

You can just spam Torch Song a few times against her fire weak mons and then just sweep between Shadow Ball, Earth Power and Torch Song/Flamethrower. 3 of the 4 moves are obtained by level-up and Earth Power you can get in Asada Desert once your Koraidon/Miraidon can climb.

I guess I'm weird because I liked the Pokemon League interview with Rika. The whole game's theme is school, so the interview felt like some kind of gym badge capstone. In a vacuum, the interview is weird, but as part of the whole world's theme, it fits.

Gen 5-7 on the other hand had each E4 member had a chamber that not only reflects their type but also feel epic. For SV you only battle the E4 in bland room and that's it.

Character Design - wide: Very interesting, fits the look of her ace, I like it. Battle - wise: yeah she's weirdly... unoptimized for a Champion. She did beat me at first but that was only because I didn't know the types of some of the Pokemon she had. Beat her soundly the second time. And (sorry if this is spoilers) fighting her again in the School Ace tournament is kind of fun, even if it's kind of the same fight. She's mighty unusual, which I guess represents some new directions for Pokemon in general. Like you said I hope there's DLC that gives her more of an edge.

She feels like what Chairman Rose should have been. If it had been her as the overall villain with some goal of having highly regimented and procedural training methods implemented, maybe seeking to use the power of the paradox/ruination Pokémon to enforce her will and remove the emotional aspect of bonding with your team she would have been better. Using her as some fusion of Cyrus, Rose and Ghetsis to train a force of near emotionless battlers, maybe with the two female elite four members as part of it? That would be interesting. It would provide a reason as to why you couldn't rematch the elite four if half of them get taken down and would give more than a handwave as to why a child who isn't old enough to have a Pokémon is an elite four member: some horrific Xerosic and Emma situation. It would even give team Star a chance to shine as their bold personalities and passion allow them to inspire fellow students to fight back against oppressive rules and indoctrination. To speculate further maybe have the academy split and half of the staff throwing in with her to regiment everything to the Nth degree. I also have my own image if Larry finally having enough and battling her full force with the normal types he identifies with in some twisted form of a spectacle resignation. Having had too much from her and choosing himself over work for once. Just a few random ideas

What's funny is she could have been better, even if she doesn't change her team, if she at least chose to fight with her team properly. Imagine if she used Glimmora first or used trick room to give her slow pokemon the edge. Or gave Avalugg a focus sash or use one that has sturdy. So that it can at least hit once.

I feel like it was an intentional choice to make her feel at least a bit uncomfortable to be around for both the characters and the player. Like having an overly cheery higher up/coworker that has a habit of being somewhat scary when out of the public eye. It definitely shows whenever she detects the slightest hint of defiance, like when Penny gets bummed that she can’t go watch some anime and has to help with patching the League’s cyber security. As for her team, I think it’s mostly pretty solid, just unoptimized. Espathra is a great anti-setup lead, Glimora should follow that up with hazard setting, Avalugg is a good physical wall but should have Sturdy and Mirror Coat to make up for/take advantage of that low special defense, and Kingambit would be a great ace with its Supreme Overlord ability being both functionally and symbolically fitting. Gogoat and Veluza should be replaced though, preferably with Arboliva and Toxapex to better synergize with the rest of the team.

I hope Geeta gets more development in the DLC, the fact that she had a Glimmora made me feel that she had a connection with Paldea's crater but nope she is just there with her poorly set up team. I'm terrified that after doing the Inspection and battling the gym leaders again, they get fired or something because I never saw them again and I miss Larry :(

I think as the game is so focused on the school and us being a student , the legend feels like a place to examine and test your strength to see if you can pass or fail. I mean an interview and after defeating Geeta and Nemona, you are just a champion ranked trainer but not the only champion of the region, it truly feels like Paldea Examinations and Assessment Authority but not the Pokemon League

Alot of people didnt care for SW/SH but I really liked Leon as a champion. He was this high-profile celebrity that everyone knew and looked up to. Your character probably idolized him as well, and it makes that final battle with him feel really hype.

My strongest Pokemon Bellibolt was only 3 levels higher than her ace. The rest of my team ranged between 59-65. I ONE SHOT every one of her party members. The Elite 4 proved a little more challenging, but the entire Pokemon League failed to knockout a single Pokemon Neema was able to make ONE of my Pokemon faint in our final battle, but this 'Top Champion' was a joke...

I really like Geeta’s character design and how regal/professional it looks. Her team was definitely underwhelming (though I did like seeing Avalugg there cuz I like that mon), so if they do have more plans for her in the DLC, I would like to have an even more challenging battle with her.

I get why they would want to downplay Greta’s strength as a trainer since she isn’t the true final boss of the game or even the Victory Road campaign, but to have what we got after some challenging Gym leader and Elite Four battles is, frankly, inexcusable. I could totally see her using Gholdengo, a pseudo-legendary, either Armarouge or Ceruledge depending on the version you picked, and maybe even a Palafin that could switch out to Glimmora to set up Toxic Spikes. It’d make the reveal that she has a Kingambit in her back pocket so much more poignant.

Something I realized when playing is that her whole team can be soloed by Skeledirge: Shadow Ball is effective against Espathra and Veluza Torch Song is effective against Gogoat, Avalugg, and Kingambit, as well as boosting Skeledirge's Sp. Atk As for Glimmora, although not STAB, Skeledirge has access to Earthquake.

I always compare Champions in games to -in my own opinion- the best champ which for me is Steven. The fight, the build-up and the Team he used. I even think that fighting Drake before that with his teachings about the ferocity of Pokemon and how one has to become good in nature to be good as a trainer adds up to the amazing fight with Steven. He felt like a real challenge, not only having a strong team but actually being someone you looked up to. He was the Champ that inspired me personally to try themed - or even mono element teams. Cynthia was great as well, even though she wasnt as memorable for her character, since most people can only say that she is the strongest (i mean, for a champ, thats probably enough, but for me, i'd like there to be more of a connection with the champ than just be there and be strong). Geeta in comparison to Steven feels hollow and more like a caricature to a real champ. The first time I fought Steven I thought i could never beat him. Most Pokemon he uses i never saw before fighting him, since fossils werent on my radar, Claydol evolved too late, same with Aggron and Metagross has its first appearance in his fight. So Skarmory was the only one I knew, which added to the intimidating presence of his team on my first playthrough.

A friend of mine cooked a fan theory/what if about Geeta where her wins were never legitimate and the previous Top Champion threw the match with her, leading to her being seen by plenty as this indomitable force when in reality it was a sham. This would set her on a character arc where she learns to not coast by on such status and instead better herself with new mons and using strategies to her advantage. I'm not certain that would be her role moving forward but hopefully whatever DLC we get will expand Geeta and maybe give her a new direction to make her a powerful fight. Given she is the only Trainer to have a Glimmora, you could tie her perhaps to whatever entity deep in Area Zero is responsible for Terra Crystals.

Geeta has a great design. It feels especially apt for Violet version, something about how distant and calculated she feels reminds me a bit of AI Turo and that part of the game. She's obviously human, but there's something off-putting and even intimidating about her. And in contrast to her put-together design, she has this big, wild hair that almost seems like tentacles. (Like she's full of secrets). So she intrigues me, and I feel like someone who encourages trainers but says things like "I am incapable of holding back." when you finally face her needs a really powerful, dramatic team of well-trainer Pokemon, to show her finally letting loose, maybe letting out a wild side once you battle. At the very least, she ought to be much more of challenge. I feel like Pokemon like Gogoat and Espathra were chosen more because they're "elegant" / "chic" rather than being strong enough for a Champion. I dont really blame Gamefreak for any of this - cuz who could, with their rushed release schedule. But I feel like it wouldnt have been that hard to have the Gym Leaders, League and similar challenges scale to your current level. Just have each gym leader base their levels off your top leveled mon to be a real challenge. When it was said we could challenge gyms in whatever order we want, I really thought this was a no-brainer. Imagine how cool it would be to save the Bug gym leader for last, she sees how many badges you have and is super excited cuz she's usually the first one to be challenged, says something "Oh my, this is so exciting. I rarely get the chance to go all out!" and then hits you with like a Swords Dance Scizor and Sticky Web Galvantula.

The interesting thing about Glimmora being Geeta's ace. Glimmora is only found in Area Zero, wich is forbidden for most trainers. So, maybe she has something to do with Professor Turo's/Sada's research.

Geeta's fight felt so weird, after a somewhat challenging Elite 4 (I was underleveled) I just swept through her team. Thank Game Freak for putting a fight against Nemona after cuz that would've been really anticlimactic if this route had ended like that.

The theory that she might be an AI android, or that she is actually going to be the villain of the DLC, is honestly becoming more and more appealing to me. Her using a Glimmora, of all things, as her ace supports this imo. It's the only non-paradox pokemon you are specifically introduced to in Area Zero, and it is connected to the Terastal phenomenon, which let us not forget is exploited by none other than the Paldean pokemon league. With the origin of Tera Crystals being Area Zero, being apparently a secret. It's strange that Area Zero is closed off in this way, but no investigation seems to be going on. In previous games the champion would go and personally try to deal with or investigate dangerous occurrences like this. Lance investigating the Red Gyarados, Cynthia helping take down Team Galactic, Steven helping you with Team Magma and Aqua. It's all just too suspicious to not be setup.

There are multiple champions in this game-you become ‘a’ champion, not ‘the’ champion, when you beat her. Geeta is La Primera, or essentially the Head Champion who oversees the entire region (the gyms, the E4, the school, etc.)

I definitely agree with this. For my first playthrough, she didn't even make enough of an impact for me to remember my real impressions (also obscured by spamming the ace tournament when trying to quickly evolve stuff for my dex). Then for my playthrough of the alternate version, I did the elite four while intentionally underleveled, which resulted in me nearly losing to every elite four member and having to use actual.strategy rather than typical playstyle of just having a full team of speedy sweepers and brute forcing my way through. Well, I nearly lost to every elite four member except for Geeta, who was a an absolute breeze even with my team being quite severely underleveled.

Instead of Baxcalibur, I'd give her Cyclizar. It's the descendant/ancestor of the Legendary yet is unused by any major characters. Plus it could add a bit to her character. Either hinting at a connection to the legendary/Area zero or showing that she saw potential in a pokemon most don't even consider beyond transportation.

Ever since Geeta’s introduction, I’ve always wondered how her role for the pokemon league worked if the term “Champion” is more of a ranking than being the very best of the region. Which is kinda like the equivalent of a “King” or “Queen” or “Royal” status of the region you’re in. Since Nemona is practically Pokemon’s equivalent of Goku and Ash/Satoshi combined and is HOLDING the hell back against her, it’s fucking scary. But back to Geeta, it is also worth noting that she’s also the Chairwoman to the Paldean Pokemon League, and thinking of chairman’s like Rose for example in the previous gen, they’re suppose to be in charge over everything, with employees, paperwork and events. So, I believe that while Geeta is strong in her own right, I want to believe she’s in that role of “Champion” to inspire others to challenge the gyms and get to the E4 but the problem with her is that while she is canonically “strong” but weak in a gameplay standpoint. However, I also want to believe that’s she’s in the position of “Champion” so she could be a “final test” sort of deal, a Transitional Champion, her worth doesn’t hold much weight in the long run of things. Champions like Cynthia is worth fighting against because she’s a literally a wall to overcome to TAKE her title. Geeta is just giving them away. Or maybe I’m looking too deep into things as this could be Pokemon’s way of recontextualizing to how the Pokemon Leagues of each region worked. If it is, I’m quite mixed about it.

I think I had a bit more “difficulty” in this Gen mostly because I wasn’t usually overleveled much, if at all. Sometimes I was under leveled. I think the non-linearity was in part to blame. Also not fighting every trainer. I actually needed to use my brain a bit and not just plow thru with my starter; even then I lost more Pokémon than I normally do. Edit: ok, I must have buried the trauma; I did have some trouble with her Kinggambit; took out about half my team before I got him.

I didn't bother saving when I challenged the league and didn't heal until after every match just for the sake of a challenge. I made several bad calls during my fights with the Elite Four that made beating them almost impossible due to my team's type composition and iffy type coverage. I went into the Geeta's fight feeling as though I was under-leveled only to then sweep her whole team with one single pokemon. I couldn't even begin to describe my disappointment...

I guess the reason why she has 2 gen-6 Pokémon is that lore wise Paldea is located very close to Kalos. Who knows, maybe that’s foreshadowing, either for Kalos being DLC or for something else (Switch port/remake or Legends 2?)

I can't express how badly you can cheese this fight with a toxapex and dark type (meowsqurade w U-turn works best). Just bait the psychic attack (which 4/6 mons know) and swap to dark type, use U-turn or swap into tox and repeat.

After finishing Area Zero I can't help but feel there's more behind Geeta and her fabulous hair that's full of secrets. For one, Nemona reacting to seeing a Glimmora and remembering how Geeta had one in her team seems sus. It implies that she may have been poking around Area Zero behind the scenes. But I get that she may also have gotten her Glimmora in Alfornada Cavern like I did though. Still, I have a sneaking suspicion that she meant to be underwhelming and seemingly incompetent in her battle for... sus reasons. It all boils down to her having Glimmora, a Pokemon closely tied to Terastal energy and major future plot point. Or... the devs just threw darts at a Pokedex to decide her team idk.

I agree, I had way much harder fights than this one while playing the game, weither it was the Elite 4, Nemona's final battle, Arven's final battle, the battle against Clavell (mostly Quaquaval) or even the fight against Tulip for some reasons. The worst in this is that they make her sound like she's as imbeatable as Leon even though Nemona beat her pretty recently to get her own champion title!

I think they could have made Geeta's team function "decently" as-is if they did 2 things: 1.) Provide items to NPCs, like Leftovers, and EVs/IVs (like what BDSP did) 2.) Give Geeta's Glimmora its Hidden Ability (Corrosion, which lets it poison Steel and Poison types) and Venoshock to guarantee massive damage on the last members of your party Using the offense potential with Glimmora to play with its less popular role as a speedy special attacker CAN work, heck they could even code her Kingambit to be guaranteed to go second-tolast with swords dance and sucker punch to soften your team up for Glimmora to finish off.
