While some think of Powell a cheesy grincat, I preciate him. He just radiates positivity and confidence without being a jerk on or off-screen.

I hated him in Anyone But You. But Hit Man shows he has range and I think he showed star quality in Twisters. A movie star doesn't need to be the best actor or have great range, but they just have to hold the camera's focus.

Yes he is. Can’t wait to see him in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man.

I knew he was gonna be a star when I watched Scream Queens and then Richard Linklater’s Everybody wants some!! The dude is very generic in terms of look but I find him to have an interesting humour/charisma. Is he ever getting an Oscar? Probably not but he’s definitely gonna be in good movies for a while still.
@thetalentofАй бұрын
He definitely has the potential to be a great movie star if he keeps bringing the same persona consistently to commercial popcorn projects so that audiences have brand expectations that he can deliver on. Wahlberg, Smith, Dwayne, Clooney, Wilson, Schwarzenegger, Gere and Hanks were the best at doing that to generate box office which is the job of a movie star. Cruise is still the most popular movie star remaining and the youngest still working today is Dicaprio.

Yes I think Glen is a movie star! He is charming, funny, handsome, and seems down to earth and like a family man. ❤

Not yet. A movie star is someone who brings audiences into theaters. Whose presence can get films financed. Who is known across generations and demographics of people. He’s not there yet. But one day could be. Right now he’s just a semi-well known actor.

Glen Powell got the quality of a movie star, he got the look and presence and right now as you said he need to make the right choices and, he need to surprise audience with his role. Powell also shooting a TV series right now, which i think is a bad idea because, a movie star does not do television.

There's just something off about Glen Powell idk its like if producers could AI edit features on an actor it would be Glen Powel, wood acting, wood face, small eyes so his eye line is correct on set.

Going to assume you describing Sam Worthington as "charismatic" was in pure irony...

Movie stars rarely exist nowadays. It's just actors as props in commercial films, intellectual properties and 80s remakes.
@somestuff7876Ай бұрын
11:54 or we could just not watch those films? I didn't like original Top Gun, so I never went to see the sequel. World is at insane point, so I don't need Twisters, or any disaster film, right now. I saw trailers for both of those films, but I don't remember him. At all. Who needs movie stars, when you can have good actors? I more inclined to see film with Paul Dano than with next "Chris" anyway. p.s. But to play Devil's advocate doesn't it look like example of current movie star would be someone like Timothee Chalamet? Studios tend to put this guy everywhere and yet the guy skips, seemingly wisely, superhero films.

Glenn Powell isn't a household name. If you ask an older person if they know them and they don't, they aren't a star.

I don't think one has the have a dark past or be doing dark shit or deep scandals to be a Movie Star. I think Movie Star could use rebranding, and he could be a good candidate to help with this rebrand.

He was the least interesting person in Maverick playing a wannabe Ice Man. Hollywood will always lay their prospects on a blonde, blue eyed, square jawed white man. He is an okay actor that doesn't really hold the attention Hollywood thinks he does. Definitely not s movie star. The modern day movie star doesnt exist anymore. If he sticks to good scripts from independent movies he will have a fine career. Just stop pushing him on the public. He has yet to have a wow role, in a wow movie

And just to add. The industry is a shithole. But he is so without any thing specific, memorable or so so that this video essay is the only thing having less energy than that performance.

That might be one of the most format fitting but as an examples worst video essays of all time. Something somehing. Why did movie stars became big, why did oscars became a thing? Nahhh. Toooo much. Lets take them same stencil and / or youtube.
