Although it was one of the last things said, I felt it was the most important. When Todd said "If you walk into a church where they say 'God hates fags,' then that isn't God's church." I think its really important for both believers and non believers that we all know how loving God is and that anyone who uses the scriptures to discriminate or even oppress is not being wise and not acting in a manner that is acceptable.

You said that sin is what causes homosexuality. But what if I have a gay friend who says they were born that way? Was it their own sin in their very young age that caused them to be gay? Or could it be another's sin that raised them/influenced them while they were growing up?

some people are affected by the sinful way of this world in different ways and at different levels than others, people dont all have the same struggle, some struggle with homosexuality, some with lying, some with addiction, or a combination, or a multitude of others. it isnt your friends fault, or anybodys. theyre still loved by God just as much as He loves you or I. I dont know why theres so much hatred from some people and so called christians toward people who arent straight, maybe its a culture thing, sure God declared it as an abomination, but He never declared to hate, only love and reach others.

Homosexual orientation can't be pinpointed with any kind of exactness. Other than to say that everyone is born in this world tainted with sin and it can manifest in hundreds of different ways. Whether they feel like they were born that way or somehow influenced by the myriad of things from without, the Lord is asking all who follow him to deny self and take up their cross.

When they say they were born that way, they mean they were born that way. Why would someone choose to be gay? Many gay people lose their friends, families, and homes, especially in more conservative countries. No one would "choose" that if that was a choice. If gay people became gay because of how they were rasied, then gay people would not potentially come from houses of homophobic christian upbringings.

As 1 Thessalonians 5:18 states "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." You really will want to thank God for every activity. With all due respect, one thing that is off, is when people say “God NEVER says...” we don’t know God. God can say things we would never think He would. Now when he says “God never says no to something without saying a bigger yes to something else” is not a really good thing to say... that would create a expectation inside people towards God, and begin to establish and build their faith and belief on top of that and when God does not say yes to something else or give you something in exchange for saying no, we will get upset, discouraged, confused... when God says NO, He is still good and just. He doesn’t owe us anything, He doesn’t have to make it up to us in any other way. If God comes to us with HARSH words He is holy, we deserve harsher things, but we thank Him for His mercies. Let’s continue to stay before God that He May find us worthy to know God’s heart for we will not be able to do so by reading scriptures or someone else’s books unless God has instructed that man to share certain aspects of it. God bless.

Conservatives trot out a tool/pawn like Sam to make this warped illogical argument all the time, and Sam obliges without regard to the negative impact that he is having on other gay people. This argument that everyone is treated equally concerning this issue is just dishonest on its face and lays the predicate for religious conservatives to justify bigotry and the ostracism of an entire segment of people. Simply, straight people and gay people are not on a level set when it comes to the church’s teachings on this issue since straight people can get married in the eyes of the church; gays can not. If straight religious conservatives wish to compare their experience, take a vow of celibacy. I really don’t see how such illogical arguments can be genuinely made.

@@LivenrightHalo2 Nowhere in my comment did I make an argument justifying or condemning homosexuality-not that I would ever condemn it. In short, I said it is intellectually dishonest to say Christian conservatives treat gay people equitably when it comes to ethical standards on this issue. Who cares that you (e.g., presumably a straight person who can get married with the church’s blessing, despite any struggle with porn) are nice to your gay friend. That misses the point; the point concerns this inequitable ethical standard by Christian conservatives as a community (and Sam’s part in justifying it), not your personal interactions with gay people.
