But even in South only in Kerala and few places in Andhra people save 1 kg gold or more for wedding, in Tamilnadu 200 to 400 grams is what most of middle class save for wedding. Even in my culture men have to give to women for marriage(Mahr) but due to the mix of regional culture it has become 50-50 contribution from men and women side and many people don't even follow the culture of providing to the women

@subbu7770 bro. Jewellers are not registered as non banking finance corporations. So they are essentially invisible to rbi/sebi. So no protection for investors. That's the only reason they stop at 11 months and pay the 12th month. Previous to nathella issue we had even 36 months plan. After the issue RBI intervened and said since they are not NBFC, they cannot offer such scheme for longer tenures. All said investors money is not safe. Don't risk your hard earned money.

Default risk of the Jeweller is the unseen risk here. Banks don't lend to most jewellers because they understand the risks. Reputed brands like Tanishq will not offer such attractive gold schemes for this reason because they have cheaper sources of credit.

This plan works when you are paying the money as an emi. If you have a lumpsum amount, purchasing gold instantly is a best option. Because in the name of removing making charges, you are going to loose your money. And also 16% making charges is applicable for only fewer jewels like necklace. One day set up some exhibition in my native and collected funds like this that time in my home they paid some 500/- when I’m a kid. The showroom people promised they’re opening their store in my native but not opened that time and opened after 3-4months and when all the people went along with those receipts they denied stating everything was genuine but it crossed 3months so they can’t do anything and many people lost that 500/- it’s a small sum that’s fine because another store is some 65kms just imagine if it’s large sum of amount like this guy saying what wld be scenario. This scheme is there in very small shop with only 1branch that too size of shop is just the space of 3autos just imagine how small still it’s there in that also.
