In our second episode of Motive Garage GR Yaris, we start modifying and testing at the track. We lose a little weight, add some noise and then test out the Zestino Tyres at a Rallysprint then at Wakefield Raceway.

The only reason it’s in motives Yaris is because they didn’t have to pay for it!!! It was handed to them free of charge. I would bet Andrew would not buy that battery himself if he had to pay for it, especially if his wife got to see what he paid for a car battery!!!! 99.99% of people who regularly track their car will not pay that price for that battery. Are you buying one?

I love it. 20 mins of great entertainment. Much more interested in this, than the huge horsepower GTR's etc. Far more accessible to the average enthusiast. I didn't like the gold wheels to begin with, but they've really grown on me now. Can't wait to see how this develops. Brilliant video as usual.

I took my driver's test in a 2dr Yaris about a decade ago when they were a new release. They are deceptively fun to drive, even the base trim.

Yes, an inelegant design from the get go. It wasn’t much to look at which often rings alarm bells for an exhaust. Often - the nicer they look, the better they perform. The pie cuts are here, there and everywhere, which is fine but to reach a muffler so low just screams poor design. I suspect that ain’t going to be the only exhaust on that car. Fair enough, I’ve put many exhausts on the same car and some are good for different reasons and states of tune.

I found one of these batteries guys. If your wondering about price I found one close to the one on the video above. Cost $675 aus and 5.5kg weight. PS I also found one for $1065 lol Weight was 2.8kg. That's a lot saved in weight from 19kg stock one.

I would of never of thought of a battery as a performance mod that's so cool. But you don't have to spend as much as what you said on wheels for weight saving. I can save 11.6kg (not a GR Yaris) with a set of wheels for $1200 from Rota, and that's unsprung mass so who knows what that is maybe the equivalent of 46kg.

Lithium batteries are great aren't they! I remember when I got mine and people said I was silly for spending that much on a battery and I used the same justification as you did stating it was actually cheap for the weight saved, 11kg in my case. Can't beat that

The 'jump start' function just allows you to temporarily bypass the discharge protection, there is no extra battery, it's just allowing you to use the last few percent.

I have been thinking about getting a Li battery for my GR - I have one in my Ducati (an Earth-X). The "inbuilt jump starter" is the under-voltage protection reset. Those batteries are ruined if they get to zero volts so they have that protection. It will also have over-voltage protection and cell management. Li batteries require slightly less voltage to charge than lead acid and some have been known to get overcharged, heat up and get thermal runaway... On the good side, they're very light in weight and, if there's no parasitic drain, will hold their charge for months and months.

He did a 109.4 just with Zestino 07RS's and after market rims. Yet with the cat back a K&N panel filter did a 109.25 with the 07RS's as well as after market rims. Yet he thought the cat back and filter would make half a second difference when we know it didn't from the days results. I just don't understand why that was said when we have the results

another great & helpful video! Unfortunately you didn´t mention which Zestino size you´ve used on which rim size / offset. There are two sizes which fit to the GR: 235/40-18 and 265/35-18 (very wide tire for such smal car) B.t.w.: you compared it with the standard car´s tyre (Dunlop), Michelin 4S of the circuit pack works much better!

they're not semis and they work cold, but they do have a warm up area where you can do hard turning circles to warm the tyres pre run.

Too early to tell. stock clutch will keep gearbox alive, but our contacts who are developing a dog box reckon stock drivetrain is pretty good.

In Australia its called “Rallye” edition. First 1100 cars, which includes this car, were stand pack. The rallye(circuit pack) haven’t landed yet and there are only 200 of them coming at this point. The other fun fact is the rallye model gets both the circuit and comfort pack options. Where as in the uk you can only pick the one pack.

No one knows yet. Someone said they put 60 laps of phillip island on one in a day and drove it home with no weird noises etc. I had a Turbo Swift GTi back in the day, I'm guessing it will be 1000x more reliable than that.

The base model was $40k for us and the track pack is $56k. The first batch for each price was 1000 units and 200 units respectively. The first 1000 sold out in 6 days so another 100 were offered for $45k and they sold out in a few weeks. They haven’t started building the 200 Rallye version yet but a lot of us figured the $16k cost saving would be used to make it better than the Rallye anyway. Also to be lucky enough to get one of the 200 Rallye is the first risk to take, not to mention waiting many months longer.

Australia has two models. Normal and Rallye The Rallye has LSDs and better tyres but it hasn't arrived in country yet, cost 15K more than we paid and only 200 coming here.

the GR Yaris circuit pack comes factory with front and rear LSD and revised suspension. also with better tyres and wheels. that solves most of your bad first impresions. you should mention that you bought the base one to modify it.
