I really love that you are leading the charge in publicly developing these cars, but like you’ve mentioned there’s too many unknowns. You said you also went for more aggressive toe and toe has a huge effect on the car. Like others have said, you should try to change one thing at a time and evaluate that change. I absolutely agree that the tyres being an unknown might be skewing the results. The problem you now have is trying to re-baseline the car on the known tyres.

I still wonder whether reducing the front toe out would sort it. As everyone keeps saying, "one change at a time" I believe 🤷🏻‍♂️ Great video & really good testing information 😃👍🏻

That's a tire issue. Easy to tell because sway bars adjust balance not traction level. On an auto x course you can stiffen or soften both and gain traction say through a Chicago box but once it's loaded the bars aren't going to stiffen so much it loses grip both ends. That's tires sure of it.

Rule of thumb: Change 1 thing at a time, then on to the next step. Anyone else using aftermarket sway bars to compare notes? I've always preferred stiffer rear (VW Beetle inluences).

Beetle MUST have considerably stiffer rear due to the weight back there, but conventional cars don’t require that aggressively stiff rear.

I've just fitted Whitleine swaybars to my R32 GTR, I ordered During the black Friday sales and due to stock shortages, my front arrived a month after my rear bar. When I fitted just the rear bar on the softest setting, I definately noticed that the rear end felt more solid and connected, however I noticed more oversteer when cornering as the front hollow factory bar still allowed much body roll and the stiffer rear bar would allow the inside wheel to lift more during cornering. After fitting the front swaybar also on the softest setting, The suspension feels slightly stiffer as both ends are connected, but now the body-roll is greatly improved and all wheels are definatley more firmly planted eliminating oversteer and squirm through corners.

Thanks for your helpful GRY videos and for sharing your non-biased experience rather than another pure product show nobody needs! As a matter of fact during 40 years of optimizing experience I found it always absolutely NORMAL to be faced with backdraws while optimizing cars. Actually one might see more fails than wins, it´s all about trial and error, it´s impossible to predict the result (however I thought the same as Ant Banister). The only ctitics I have: Once you notice that this setup won´t work why haven´t you immediately changed at least the rear to full soft to see what happens? Easy to do and good learning I guess...

Would be good to see you test two sets of tires on the same rims. Zestino's against a toyo or similar brand over 5 or 10 laps and see how the zestino's compare. Personally i could never fork out cash for a no name brand tire.

i think the tyres are just not that good man.the car was pushing and sliding front to rear because the tyres were not really gripping, so then they were chasing grip via mechanical setups and it masked the issue of the tyres not being up to par....you can see the struggle in Andrew's last few words trying to not disappoint the sponsors...buuuut....i think the tyres might be to blame :/

Based on testing, those other Zestino 07RS tyres are besting the top name brands by quite a bit. R888R are $500 ea and Zestinos have been around 0.8 to 1 second faster. They’ve also matched the Nankang AR1 in LapTimes which are being used by a lot of time attack competitors and loved at the Nurburgring. The only 200tw they don’t beat would be the A052 and of course the new RE71RS
@superstock9261
@superstock9261 3 жыл бұрын
@@fueledgti interesting to know, the re71rs and the Advans (ad08r and the a052) as well as the dunlop z3's (and z2) have always been top tyres. it would still mean though that maybe there's a tyre issue? maybe these tyres are like the rs4's and rs3 hankooks and need more heat in them to reach there best? it seems nothing has yet been able to topple the re71's!
@fueledgti
@fueledgti 3 жыл бұрын
@@superstock9261 Marketing works very well these days, which is why people focus on the big name brands like Advan and Toyo. The cheaper brands are improving their technology quite a lot especially for their price. These specific Zestinos haven’t properly been tested, so I feel like these probably have already heat cycled. But the 07rs they previously had are gems

very hard to say that something didn't work off the bat, but it honestly looks like the tyres were not up to par. it sounds a lot like you need to set up the car almost like its a front drive car with those tyres? more initial and mid corner steering? Maybe you are running too much or not enough rear camber and maybe the rear toe needs to be played around with? i'd go back to square one with setup and go back to a stockish setup, just standard toe and caster then 2 degrees camber and go with a well known tyre like a052 or re71rs or something. then play with toe ie/out, camber and front to rear rake....it sounds like you got a tyre issue though......

Thumbs up for the video, this was good. However, considering your previous videos, you touch very lightly on the swaybar mechanics, and I know you have a lot more knowledge about them. Could you make a W.T.F. video about them, how they can change from understeer to oversteer on stock suspension, how they change the speed you have to make corrections on the steering wheel, how the contact patch changes between front and rear when cornering.. I mean, there's two videos worth of stuff on them :) Also, active electronic sway bars, carbon fiber swaybars, hollow high diameter sway bars ... the list goes on!

ARB's are one of my next upgrades on my car, it now has alot of rear roll due to the rear seats beeing removed, i had to put back my spare tire because the rear would become unstable under braking,i would like to put in a half cage since i got front recaro pole position bucket seats, so it balances the car out,i have done weight reduction on the front also by removing the aircon compressor condensor and lines, lighter exhaust, lighter suspension, and front aluminum control arms with anti lift kit(saves 2.5 kg in unsprung weight which is noticable)and the recaros and back seat removal.It's a audi a3 8p 2.0tfsi quattro 3 doors manual but after all this weight reduction, it still weighs in 1538kg with me in it,full tank of fuel 55L and i weigh about 60kg.Thats about 1478kg wet.i like to get to 1450kg but thats a big stretch without stripping the interior.Now the car has 414bhp and 545nm on a hybrid tte420 turbo, so it isn't slow but handeling could be better improved, anti lift kit did transform the cars cornering and steering directness and sharper turn in along with better cornering stability, and i will be stepping up from 225/40/18 to 255/35/18 all around which will also make a big difference.Love these kind of video's it gives me alot of ideas on what works and what doesn't now this is something that i will have to try out and adjust myself on my car, but it's a good thing to see what works for other cars.👍

The lap times are now slower than with the stock sway bars installed 1:08.04 vs 1:07.64, is this due to track conditions or changes that have been made to the car (sway bars and front toe adjustment) or both? People shouldn't be too concerned about the engine light, it doesn't seem to be causing any real issues.
