I don't know about "take over", but I'm fucking excited! I'm definitely gonna play this. Just give me deathscythe hell and Epyon. This is my first reaction, I litterly just found out about this.
@GorillaGunner9418 күн бұрын
It’s Bandai. They’ll fuck it up within a year and as far as the card game goes I feel the same. Union arena is already dead and that just came out a few months ago

Hope they didn't scuff it. GBO2 launched in 2018 and it is still running.

They might also be finally launching their Gatcha game on mobile so you know...Gundam can possibly be raking it in.

Conceptually it’s a great idea. It remains to be seen how popular the individual games are. The model painting community will enjoy the models no matter what.

As a massive magic fan and a warhammer retiree (at 35); This is spectacular. I've been watching gundam for about 24 years and dear god, this summer I'll need a second career.
@TheCharacterSheet18 күн бұрын
The plus side is it appears like it will be crazily cheap, with only 2-3 models needed per battle and apparently a price point of around $10-20
@ZachIsntASithHeSwears18 күн бұрын
Yeah, that was one of the principle reasons for my extrication from Warhammer. I have no self control, however, for gundams. I'm one of those who've imported multiple japan-only games in the franchise, for example. I think I'll probably end up with a few of each of the models, given the price it may be worthwhile to do so if someone wants to get into the game. Spread the disease.

Comparing this to 40k is strange, it’s much closer to warhammer underworlds with its board and miniature count, but using d10’s instead of specialty d6’s

While I hope the Gundam miniature game succeeds, I would argue that it's not a "rival" in any meaningful way. Bandai have their work cut out for them if they want to secure a foothold in what is a highly competitive market segment. Yes, the Gundam IP has good brand recognition but it's very much a niche brand due to it being anime. Further to this, Games Workshop has secured a massive presence in terms of brand recognition across a huge number of sectors, to a point where many people can recognise brand related items at a glance. I honestly hope Bandai secure a foothold as I for one would love to pick up this Gundam based miniature skirmish game but its success or failure will come down to Bandai's ability to effectively market, supply and distribute its product outside of Japan.

They had a display at a convention with a bunch of D6s alongside various minis on a hexmap but no D10s, so no clue how the dice-rolling mechanics will pan out
@11AleZZ18 күн бұрын
Pretty simple I guess
@TheCharacterSheet18 күн бұрын
Our guess is it will be somewhat simply in terms of rolling, but then again, so is 40k. It's the mechanics you APPLY those rolls to where the finnicky, rules-crunch comes in, so that's hard to tell just yet.

This isn’t a 40K competitor. This is a Marvel/Shatterpoint/Mechwarrior competitor.
@Cain113418 күн бұрын
Well if Bandai plays this smart, 2025 might be the year Gundam hits it big worldwide. And given just how big the lore of just the Universal Century is, Bandai can even make more obscure mobile suits for Gundam Assemble. I can see die hard Zeon fans going crazy for the Gasshia or the Dolmel.
@MegaSharkX18 күн бұрын
Looks more like a competitor for Heroscape and Battletech than 40k or AoS
@TheCharacterSheet18 күн бұрын
True, but 40k and AoS have been trying for years to get a good, fast skirmish level system off the ground (Killteam and Warcry, along with spearhead, etc), and this may fill that void before they can.
@ShawnMM18 күн бұрын
I'm looking forward to this but not really competition for AoS or 40K. This will be a skirmish game by the looks of it, while the Warhammer ones are army scale games. Those types of games play and fell different. I play 40K and I'm excited to finally be able to play a Gundam miniature game.
@TheCharacterSheet18 күн бұрын
We also love 40k and think a lot of fans will find room in the hearts (and their wallets) for both games in 2025, we just think the collab with the card game gives them a huge advantage towards making that happen

@bc940218 күн бұрын
Personally, if they plan their cards right, I can see this being decent competition for 40k, although I feel this will have a different flavor of play compared to most war games, so it won’t be an obvious take over. However, poor battletech. I can see that game getting cooked by this.
@CptPhilippnes17 күн бұрын
Take over from 40k? I'm not sure. Bandai had like 2 versions of their gundam tabletop games a few years prior as well as 2 versions of the Gundam Card Game that never got an english translation that didn't last too long. Bandai has this weird habit of killing games after 1 or 2 years. I'm cautiously optimistic for the game to live long enough to grow but I wouldn't put it as something that would completely compete against 40k until maybe 2 or 3 years after release.

We think it will naturally poach some players (Tau players, I am staring directly at you), but we really feel like it could take off as a game that you can break out and play kind of anywhere, versus the set up and space 40k needs.
@thebeaconofhope446218 күн бұрын
@@TheCharacterSheet On that basis I do agree!
@bc940218 күн бұрын
@@TheCharacterSheet It’s funny you say that, the Tau faction needlessly to say, was inspired by stuff like gundam. And yet In Japan where it’s from, from what I remembered when I was over there and people I spoke to, no one really plays them, they play armies like the imperial guard. It’s something I always found humorous. That said, the real reason I can see gundam assemble being a potential competitor, is the cultural relevance. War hammer has only really recently gone mainstream since 8th edition at the very least. It’s still fairly new to most people. Gundam on the other hand? Everyone knows what that is. Young or old, when someone mentions giant robots, gundam is the first thing that pops to mind.

gundam table top would be very different from 40k so its not likely it will take over lol... even in japan im seeing more and more people get into 40k and move away from gunpla... tbh i came from gunpla like 3yrs ago, because there was no game with it, just build ur stuff and move on, where as 40k has build paint play, should compare this to battletech, but its not as widely known as 40k...

I love Gundam...but the chances of it toppling GW, which is a multi BILLION dollar company making man dolls and a fanatic audience has zero chance of taking over the Wargaming hobby. The best we can hope for is to make a small little dent. There are many customers of GW who spend THOUSANDS of dollars on Plastic Crack every month (I know, I used to be one) and will support GW through every stupid move the company makes...no matter how ridiculous. The Lore...the Lore is supported by hundreds if not thousands of novels and a built up story over the years that is cherished by a hard core audience...it's why fanatics get pissed off when GW tinkers with the Lore and retcons things. Now with a live action series on the horizon and GW stock at an all time high, you are delusional if you think Gundam can topple them. I would love to see it personally, but it's not gonna happen. The only thing that might threaten GW in the foreseeable future is Trench Crusade, and that's if they don't do anything stupid and piss off the customer base. If they can get a solid foundation going and boost Man Doll manufacture, Trench Crusade has a realistic chance...but it's early days yet and they have a long way to go.

I am sorry, but Gundam has been a thing over 40 years, they serve a completely different niche than 40k, both coexisted decades with not much overlapping in artistic style, paint method, price points and to be honest, the ease of entry. Gundam comes in color, ugly as you may find the original plastic color, it's still colored. The two brands are not at all comparable.
@larryjsmith276713 күн бұрын
Nope. Won't even make dent in WH40K. Not even Battletech will be touched by this. No Anime has ever successfully been made into a tabletop wargame. The way it's designed is a maybe a skirmish game only. They will be no major battles with lots of GMs or Zakus. Only fights between the main characters or super mobile suits.

I always hoped Battletech leaned back a bit more to the anime style they had early on. Perhaps not as strongly as Gundam. Either way, I'd love Gundam Assemble to stradle the line between a Battletech and something simpler if possible.
