Haaland is perfect for fast, transitional/ counterattacking football. Look at what he did with Dortmund. He was very involved. Liberty to roam free, drifted wide, dropped deep for direct linkup play in a team which was always forward thinking. your point at 6:55 "Haaland is a runner" is SPOT ON. With space around him, he is virtually unstoppable. When Pep directs him to stay put in and around a crowded box , you will never see the best of him. He WILL score goals and provide assists, because his movement and footballing IQ is so elite, but with City we are being robbed of seeing his true potential. I blame City's obsession with keeping the ball for this. "Sideway passes are better than taking a chance on playing Haaland through with a risky pass, because with a risky pass, you may lose the ball".

Yeah but he's been dreadful this season still. Who did he get those goals against? He lost the ball (14 times) more than he made completed passes (11 passes) over the TWO legs against Real. That's just absolutely dreadful stats, I'd expect better from Liam Delap.

@@whatwentwrong4599 so the issue is whether we would want a Gabriel Jesus type striker who does everything but score goals or Haaland who has 81 goals in 90 games. He is a striker, his job is to score. He needs service. He is being asked to defend and press and play as a decoy. Nobody is trying to pass to him. He is a human being and still very young. We saw his potential last season. And the amazing thing is that this goal scoring season would be an amazing season for any other striker
@whatwentwrong4599
@whatwentwrong4599 4 ай бұрын
@faghriedaniels That's all fine but defend those stats against Real Madrid? It is not good enough, why are you pretending it is? Regardless of what you say and this has been the majority of the season. Last year, he didn't have many touches either but he fought centre backs better, his movement was better and he constantly threatened runs (didn't get the ball enough) which created space for others. This season its like he isn't doing the role he wants so he's just not going to try as hard (probably not the case but what it looks from the outside). Also, they aren't the only two options, however, like when we played Villa, I much prefer to watch a dynamic front 4 which is constantly moving and looks fluid. Imo sell him, get Sesko from RB Liepzig for his release clause and go all out on trying to get someone like Vini Jr, Saka or Rodrygo to do the job if whoever is up tops having a bad game.

@@whatwentwrong4599 I agree, his stats were not good against Madrid, but then again whose is. The reality is that as bad as some of his performances have been, he is still averaging a goal a game which is world-class level. And we could look at Alvarez, his stats are even worse and you can't replace a guy who is scoring a goal a game with one who is scoring 1 in 3. So then what do you do? Play without a striker? We criticize Haaland but forget about the player he replaced, Gabi Jesus. The reality is that he has scored 30 goals so far in all comps, he has been out for 2 months, he has been off form and is still the joint top scorer. He has also not been awarded as many penalties as Palmer has been awarded this season. He has been manhandled in games and ignored by referees. I really don't know what you expect from him. He is doing his job which is to score goals. Thanks to his glut of goals we won the treble last season. Please stop being unrealistic and expect Haaland to be scoring hattricks in every game.

@faghriedaniels I dont want him scoring hattricks I want his other play to improve. Its all good smashing 6 goals in against Luton. That's a game where Alvarez could win it for us, it's games against Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid etc we need him to score against but if he's not scoring no problem but make yourself a nuisance! He's too passive push Rudiger over, get a yellow card, make runs constantly so he has to follow or come out of position just do SOMETHING because again, I love the guy and I do mostly agree with you but against Real it was pretty much playing with 10 men. How can you lose the ball more than you complete successful passes. I just want a big game to finish and go, yeah, Haaland didn't score but he had a good game.

There is multiple factors to why Haaland form has slipped but he's still contributing with goals and assists at a elite level. High expectations, injury, no KDB, lack of service, slow blocks, 2 or 3 players on him because he's such a threat etc are all factors which add up to his drop off. He clearly needs to improve aspects of his game and City need to improve their service to him but it's a temporary problem that will get solved and next season I predict he'll hit well over 30 PL goals again

I think Pep bears more responsibility for this season's performance more so than the team as a whole. His refusal to adjust his tactics has been the most costly aspect of our season. This is both applicable to Haaland and to our defense. Playing an even higher backline than we did last season hasn’t worked at all as the stats and any eye test will attest. As for Haaland, his confidence is gone and hence him missing big chances but Pep’s new tactics have not only been an advantage to opposition teams playing a low block, but they’ve also simultaneously hurt Haaland as well. Slow buildup play allows defenses and opp teams to completely reset in the box while also sucking all the space out that Haaland would ordinarily use for goals. Add in our bottles summer window where we let 45GA walk out the door with Gundo and Mahrez and didn’t bother to properly replace it (25GA is total of all players we brought in) and we’ve pretty much taken Haaland’s skill set out of the game with the system Pep is now playing and the lack of creative players we have. Love Pep, but he is not infallible and when he continues to make the same mistake over and over in the face of overwhelming evidence that its just not working well and he still continues, while also taking away the opportunities for our star striker through that system which effectively has a deleterious effect on his confidence as we can all see instead of playing to his strengths, questions must be asked. As for Haaland, if he played at any other top team who would play to his strengths like a RM or a Bayern or even an LFC, he’d be the top scorer in Europe. Ps. Haaland can certainly improve and I’m sure he’s trying, but if you wanted a striker who had twinkle toes on the ball, then you should’ve gotten Harry Kane and not a battering ram in Haaland. It’s not a fair expectation to put on him

@MCFCTheMadHatter 4 ай бұрын
@@samswagg4 What have I said that you think is not correct? Has the high line not hurt us a lot this season? Is it not true that we have conceded more this season in the PL with 6 games to go than we have in each of the last 3 seasons in their entirety? We have the same back line starters and players as last season yet our defensive record is far worse. So either all the players on defense have gotten much poorer and stayed that way all season or Pep's system is very flawed defensively.
@samswagg4
@samswagg4 4 ай бұрын
@@MCFCTheMadHatter I never disagreed with any of your points. You are right that Pep’s system may leave some gaps defensively and have other issues involving Haaland, but despite all the gripes we are in pole position to do the double. So relax and enjoy the end of the season. Everything you mentioned about Erl and lack of proper replacement in the window is spot on But to be fair the defense has had key injuries. Walker Ake Stones even Ederson Akanji has played across whole back line this season including inverting into the midfield. So there will be issues defensively due to fitness as well.
@MCFCTheMadHatter
@MCFCTheMadHatter 4 ай бұрын
@@samswagg4 With respect, and I appreciate your words, but our defensive issues have been pervasive regardless of injuries. It doesn’t matter if we’re playing all starters or a mix of squad players and starters…the result is the same: we concede major chances on goal via the counter attack and the vast majority of it comes down the flanks regardless of the personnel. It’s a major system issue and refusing to adapt it (like Pep did last season) has led to a lot of our misery. 3:4 goals RM scored came on counter bc Akanji was too high 2x in game 1 and Walker was too high in game 2. Does it honestly make sense to play such a high line against arguably the best counter attacking team in Europe when you’re in the QF on the CL? It’s suicidal. Yet Pep did and we lost. Had we not conceded bc we got beat with the high line, the attacks poor performance wouldn’t have mattered. Defenses win you title and attacks win you games Same thing goes the games in the PL. Even as our form has gotten better recently, and have been scoring more, we got scored on the counter by both AV and Palace. You might say, well we won the game so it doesn’t matter. But that would be missing the point. Bc as the RM game showed (and a lot of games this season) you can’t always rely on your attack to score and therefore you need to rely on your defense to keep a clean sheet or at least not be easy to score against. But that’s what happened in the CL and it happened in the Chelsea games and Tot game and Palace game at home as well as the AV game away. When our attack was misfiring, our defense wasn’t there to keep goals out and we dropped needless points. That is very much unlike what happen in previous seasons to varying degrees. This is what makes me so nervous as the season is winding down. We need to keep clean sheets to give us the best opportunity we can to win the league bc we can’t afford to drop points. Playing a high line almost ensures we will concede goals and we have a whole season to prove it. So why would Pep continue to implement a system that has proven to be so disadvantageous to us defensively? Makes no sense. There are also issue in the attack that are also borne out of the high line system. So many clear cons with fewer pros and yet Pep shows no sign of doing what logic and objective reason would suggest: adapt it a little; drop the high line 10-15 meters and run it similar to what gave us such joy last year; in transition, maybe don’t always do slow methodical buildup bc it makes us 1-dimensional, instead pass a thru ball to Haaland when he breaks the lines and watch the magic he delivers. Keep the opposition guessing about our attack like last season. Pep did this to great effect last season when it was even as obvious as it is now, yet he still refuses. I’m not worried about our team. I trust our players to play well, but Pep has given us no indication that he sees let alone will address these obvious issues. That is why my fear is not with the team performing but with Pep and his setup. I pray he proves me wrong. Sorry for the rambling, I’m just so annoyed bc we have the players the manager etc to do great things and instead we’re doing some really dumb things and the stakes are just too high

No! Let’s call a spade a spade. Enough with the excuses. The problem can only be solved after reality is acknowledge. If he isn’t scoring goals, he contributes nothing. He doesn’t offer build up play, doesn’t play physically anymore, and doesn’t leave a stamp on the game. Yes, he may not be getting a ton of chances, but he’s the “best striker in the world.” He shouldn’t need a ton, and if he can’t get a ton in this Man City team with De Bruyne and Foden behind him, then it’s his fault too. Honestly I need a break from him for a few months. If he does this again next year, I wouldn’t mind him leaving. At this point it’s addition by subtraction. Him and Walker

Haaland's injury is niggling, and persisant. If Haaland is getting freezing shots for the injury his touch will be affected. Plus all the stuff you've said

Haaland is 1m93 tall (if im not wrong). How many headers did he score? So he is not good enough at that (50% responsibility), but City is not good at giving him headers to score too (50%). In a game like the one against Madrid, where you spend all the game in the opponents box, how many headers did he even try? 1 or 2? its not enough. We have Haaland and we never cross. We force our way through with small passes. This is not smart.

Haaland's finishing hasn't been great this season, missing sitters and headers over the bar on multiple occasions. The team doesn't trust Haaland anymore, so they take the shots themselves.

I think I speak for 90% of the true city fans when I say we don’t hate haaland or think he’s not a good fit for city, but his all round game is really poor and does seem as if we’re playing with 10 men most games because he really doesn’t get involved especially when we need him..he was really bad against Madrid, slightly better in the second leg but still wasn’t good enough he just needs to improve on his game but like you said it’s not that easy

Because we spend so much time in the opposition half, he is never going to get many runs on goal, needs to work on control the ball better, and sick of seeing smaller men than him pushing him off the ball

He's a dreadful header of the ball. He jumps too early EVERYTIME, meaning he has to try put the power on the ball himself and he also must have a odd shaped head because it just seems to bounce off in weird directions.
@stacyaman
@stacyaman 4 ай бұрын
@@whatwentwrong4599💯 I've been saying this to people. Every time he goes up for a header he misses times it by jumping up to early, which doesn't allow him to put any sort of power on the header, because by the time the mall reaches him, his on his way down. In order to be able to direct the ball and generate power, you need to time.your jump perfectly. Harry Kane is amazing at doing this, so is Gabriel for Arsenal

Hasn't done enough in the big games. If he improves city will become unbeatable. As a 6ft 5 big lad, just be brave and tough, hold the ball up like a traditional big man, win headers, this one is the major one, he is pitiful in the air, he ducks when he jumps, he has fear inside of him. If he loses that then my god he will be ballon dor every year.

Great question. My answer would be this... Is he good value? Has the team scored more goals with him? Answer is no and he costs a lot in wages... The next question would be should we sell him...IF his form continues to drop next season The answer to that is, who would / could buy him? Not Real if they get Mbappe...so it's difficult and I'd like him to at least have another season with the incoming players...coz he is a BEAST

No, he's doing absolutely nothing. City play better with Alvarez and Foden. Why aren't we utilizing Oscar Bobb, who can create chances but is also lethal in the box. Even Nunes also creates chances. Imagine Oscar's bobb composure in the box against Madrid, like the goal he scored against New Castle. City have weapons on the bench that can do damage in games when we are struggling to score but Pep refuses to utilize those players. It's time for change.
