Here's another possibility... buy the Bladeborn boxed game for $50 at Barnes & Noble. You get the dice (but no wild dice), markers (although only 8 activation markers), and enough minis to build a Slaves to Darkness warband. I had some old 7th edition Beasts of Chaos in the back of a closet and glued up a few extra models to round out both a very nice Warcry warband and a Bladeborn warband. Even after buying Bladeborn, a 30x22 game mat, terrain, the previous core rulebook, and a Warcry battleplan deck, I spent around $150. Bladeborn uses about 75% of the rules from Warcry, so if you want to introduce someone to tabletop gaming, you can use Bladeborn to jump them into the game very quickly.

I've never understood the perceived necessity of GW-manufactured terrain. Make your own! It is cheaper and cooler and more flexible. Plus you develop your hobby and painting skills
@lordnovas2 жыл бұрын
Count me in for the rulebook, I will be printing out the rest. I'm not blown away by the new factions so I'm gonna look through my stl library for warbands I want to paint. If I was starting off fresh and unsure of who I would be playing with then I'd purchase the Sigmar Warriors box set, cause you get good looking models at a great price.

I love this video. My question, as a warcry newcomer, how important to the game is having terrain that matches the terrain on the setup cards? Are random terrain pieces and bridges a downgrade to being able to match exactly what’s on the cards?
@eagleace54302 жыл бұрын
It's 100% a nice to have, but not at all necessary. The variety of presets on the cards are nice when you don't want to think too hard about setting it up or avoid accidentally setting it up the same every time, which I do all the time. Plus, these cards are just nice bonuses for options that come with the terrain sets. But you can use whatever terrain you want; our LFGS group brings lots of other non-GW sets to supplement the GW terrain. GW sets like this are nice for the verticality they bring so you can use the fun climbing/falling/jumping rules, but like all terrain they can be expensive.
@RozanovaHunter2 жыл бұрын
One of the Tomes of Champions had rules for this, the basic idea just being you want to spend about a third of your matches on a table with light terrain, a third with medium, and a third with dense terrain. Variety is the spice of life!

Proxy models if you ain't got (toy soldiers). Scratch build terrain is easy and great fun to do (coffee stirrers, foam and cardboard). Rules and cards are all on line for free.

Here is that video from the dude who did the Warrior starter Warcry video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pojcfKSQh5yFapo Very clever stuff! Thanks for doing this video Dan! Really interesting to see how price compares to buying stuff separate. I should note that it is relatively easy to find the Heart of Ghur boxed set at 15% off, while a lot of the independently sourced materials (like the Etsy terrain) would be hard to find at a discount. Still, as someone who has terrain and miniatures I think 230 is too much for the contents of this box. I have the original starter so I think I'm just going to pick up the rulebook (maybe the compendium depending what the "free fighter profiles" entails). I like the terrain in the Ghur box pretty well....but there isn't very much of it and I don't think it will make for a great experience due to how sparse it is. I like both the Warbands, but neither of them really pop out to me like the Iron Golems or Unmade did (or really any of the first 6 bands).

In the UK, honestly, this was quite a good deal by GW standards. It’s a quality starter set really. Anywhere else? Not so much

This product was interesting until they reveal the price. Now i am not interested at all. It is too expensive. I am trying that some of my friends start in the Warcry's world, but with this prices it is very difficult. In my opinion Games Workshop is killing their own game with this prices, because there is few people interested in Warcry, at least where I live, and very few that wants to pay these prices :(

Are you going to hit on the campaign/quest changes?
@Steve-im6jg2 жыл бұрын
First I want To say I watched the whole presentation and I subscribed after watching it. You clearly did a lot or research. I have to say I agree with your conclusions. This box is expensive, it isn't for someone who already plays warcry and one shouldn’t buy it unless they are in love with at least 2/3 of its contents. My one criticism is that you seemed to go out of your way to make the heart of Gurr box seem like an average value for a board game and I disagree with that. Full stop at a $5 ruler dude.
@mekko1413 Жыл бұрын
of course you can start cheaper. All you technically need is the rule book. If you want actual miniatures you can 3dprint or use another companies miniatures. Also these box sets are typically significantly cheaper going to a local non-GW gaming store or Amazon.

Fun fact: The Victory, Twist and Deployment cards are in the core book as D66 tables as well

That's great to know! So people can just skip str8 to the core book then.

those chessex rolls are pretty good, you would need a sample size much greater to make a solid determination on them. but your small sample size with only a 10% variation seems more than reasonable.

It's funny you watched these two vids in order, since during the process of my latest video I definitely found that the experiment from this video wasn't enough to make a clear claim.

For me, the big problem with this box is that I don't actually want either one of those warbands.

Same for me. I plan on selling them.

Seems like the points for the models are going to be released for free, as per the War Comm Twitter. That's great, but you'll still need the big book for everything... But at least it's just one book now, plus the rulebook.

The free points is such an awesome piece of news

It's not perfect but Rampart terrain from Archon Studios is about $70 USD and has a few platforms. You'd have to make your own bridges from popsicle sticks but overall it's modular and pretty close to what you'd need.

Oh wow. Their stuff looks really good. On their website it seemed like they're between kickstarters at the moment, do you know where to get it?

@@thesaltyseagames Archon Studios seems to have the Cathedral set in stock in their shop from what I can tell. Otherwise I think ebay and their kickstarter waves are pretty much the only places to pick it up. Once a KS wave delivers they'll have excess in their shop.

Anybody reading this in/around Lincoln Nebraska? I'm working on my catacombs set now and stoked to start playing but need to start networking for players so I'm not only coaxing my friends into starting this expensive Hobby. I'm going to put up flyers in the three local hobby/gaming stores but I want to get closer to complete with my set.

It’s kind of crazy to me that they are charging this much. There’s loads of great skirmish games from other companies for loads less. It doesn’t even have the normal gw benefit of easily finding a group.
@timokrahl56202 жыл бұрын
It´s actually not the rest of the world that is paying more than the UK - it´s basically just the US. First of all the GW prices in the US are the highest - they just charge more because they have to ship it all to the US. The other thing is the "allowed" price reduction for retailers. From what i´ve heard it´s 10% in the US - but it´s 25% in the UK and Europe. Taking into account that the USD basically equals the Euro at this point in value - we in Europe have a price of 180€ and the retailer online price will most likely be ~140€ ... which roughly equals 140$ at this point. Calculating that price reduction from 140 Pounds to USD comes down to around 130$. And i think even that is a lot. 230 (lets say 210 from a retailer) is way too much...
@blazingknight.2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure Australia will be screwed pice-wise too :(
@timokrahl56202 жыл бұрын
@@blazingknight. Yeah - everything that´s not European continent means additional shipping for them as they do not produce their minis in China - which is a good thing in many ways - just not for price.
@thesaltyseagames2 жыл бұрын
Wow, fair enough. So the box is going to be much more worth it in Europe than it is here. Do you guys have as many options on Etsy as we do? Seems like with GW prices being way more reasonable over there that buying alt-sculpts might be less attractive.
@rmkarros2 жыл бұрын
@@timokrahl5620 sort of, yes thay have to pay shipping, but thay don't have to pay the 20% VATS tax outside of the UK so that really should work to offset shipping. also at least for the US we have varry low import dues (around 5%, some times lower depending on the product). So there prices even when you factor in shipping just don't make sense (even with crazy shipping prices currently).
@timokrahl56202 жыл бұрын
@@thesaltyseagames But that goes for every GW product - you can basically apply the same calculation to everything they produce. UK pays the least as it is produced there - EU pays extra - but not a terrible lot (140pounds vs 180€ for heart of ghur - a Pound is around 1,19€) - but US and Australia are in a whole different space when it comes to pricing. Buying Etsy stuff from the US over here is not really an option as taxes and shipping are just breaking the bank. It´s 20% in taxes and like 40€/$ in Shipping on top of that from Etsy. We´ve got our local distributors for that but it´s also not cheap and i think those services are more used for terrain that just does not exist like for Star Wars Legion.
