This one is a blockbuster! All Christians are taught that "I am that I am" is G-d's NAME. Now you show us--actually show us--the Hebrew words of that phrase, which completely expose the inaccurate translation from the Hebrew. This is one of those occasions which leave us in shock. We know that the translators knew what this Hebrew phrase actually meant because they translated it correctly in verse 12. We must stop trusting translations and learn Hebrew!

He is not "I am" and being a Jew I am surprised. You would know the Hebrew for "I am" is "ani". Strongs at Levit Chapter19 for example some20 times is: Ani Yahweh." = I am Yahweh . Exod 3:14 God gave his designation "Ehyeh asher Ehyeh "I will be that which I will be, NOT i AM. You should know God is not called or heard as "Ehyeh" in all the Bible. , Some Hebrew Bibles render Exodus3:14 as "I will become what I will become" Ehyeh is derived from the Verb Hayah. to be or become.

Shalom all :) Rabbi Tovia is genuinely right on many points but being imperfect, he just may be wrong on this one. The banning of utterring God's name isn't found in the Torah but in rabbinic tradition. Moshe asked Elohim for His Name and this was the commandment. *Exodus 3* 13 And Moses said to God, “Look, when I come to the people of Israel, and tell them, ‘The *God of your fathers has sent me to you;’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ What should I tell them?”* 15 And God said moreover to Moses, *“You shall tell the people of Israel this, ‘YHWH, the God of your fathers,* the God of Abraham, i the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ *This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.* 16 Go, and gather the elders of the children of j Israel together, and *tell them, ‘YHWH, the God of your fathers,* the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt; The following verse confirms. *Exodus 6* 2 Then God spoke to Moses, and said to him, *“I am YHWH.* 3 And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai, *but I did not make myself known to them by my name YHWH.* The fact that so many prophets of YHWH had the compound signature name of God (YAH) proves that His name is to be uttered, remembered and exalted. There were false prophets who went around making God's chosen forget His name and this was met with strong rebuke. *YermiYAH 23* 26 How long shall this be in the heart of the *prophets who prophesy lies,* even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart, 27 who think *to cause my people to forget my name* by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers *forgot my name for Baal (LORD/Adonai).* Eli-YAH (My God Is YAH) had to emerge to correct those who called upon BAAL/LORD/Adonai instead of His name. *1 Kings 18* 24 You call on the name of your god (BAAL), and *I will call on the name of YHWH*, and the god who answers by fire, he is God.” All the people answered, “It is well said.” 36 It happened at the time of the offering up of the offering, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, *“YHWH, the God of Abraham*, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. 38 Hear me, YHWH, hear me, that this *people may know that you, YHWH, are God,* and that you have turned their heart back again.” 38 Then the fire of YHWH fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 And when all the people saw it, they fell facedown *and said, “YHWH, he is God. YHWH, he is God.”* The call to love YHWH and to love His name includes gentile proselytes. *Yesha-YAHU 56* Also the foreigners who join themselves to YHWH, to minister to him, and to *love the name of YHWH,* to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath from profaning it, and holds fast my covenant; *Deut 6* 4 *Shema Yisrael, YHWH eloheinu,* YHWH echad. 5 And you shall *love YHWH your God* with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

I really enjoyed the "with you" segment of this video. Thank you Tovia. As far as the word used in Exodus 20:7 is concerned (נָקָה)... It isn't unpardonable... It's guiltless/unpunishable. In other words there will be punishment for the crime but doesn't necessarily mean the person won't be forgiven by Yah. The word also lends to the idea that there could be a possible purging/cleansing of the person. Granted.. it's better to never go there in the first place... Obviously this will be up to Yah as to whom he shows mercy upon and who he doesn't because of the persons heart. Exodus 33:18 "And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy to whom I will show mercy." 1 Samuel 16:7 "For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but YWHW looks on the heart.”

@Marco Alessandro . ALLAH the Arabic word does not mean "God". The Arabic word for " God" is " ilah " . ALLAH means " The one ture deity" who is worthy of all worship & praise. The reason we do NOT use the word " God" because, you can play / manipulate the word " God " . The word " God" has a gender & it's male , the female is " Goddess" . You can add a "S" after " God" & it becomes " Gods" more than one . You do use this word " God" on even men / women , examples - He is like God in football , She is so beautiful like Goddess - Godfather - Godmother etc.etc. You phrases like " Money is my God, woman is my Goddess ". But, the word "ALLAH" is unique ! ALLAH has no gender & no plural version & you can not play with this pure word .

The first ghaib is originated by present tense but one is unable to speak it as a present tense because it has present itself as a past tense in the next nano second - coded as "Huwa" as it has become a past tense. Compressed, it is understood and accompanying both tenses without having to repeat it. Allah is not a name by tenses or by convention. Convention changes via time. No one will ever know the How and When the name was designed before convention becoz knowing is finite. How many finite convention do you need to express infinite? Infinate decision can never be made by convention. Attempt to understand a part of it-"maybe" but to understand it in totality, we will never get it by convention.

@Marco Alessandro We do not use the word God because God in English can be be any God, depending who you speak to and their religion while Allah swt is usually specific and has specific qualities that are unique, the scholar can go on and on about this name alone, like we have scholar books just devoted to this one name, in islam there is at least 99 name of his Greatest names. Through his names and attributes, we learn and understand Him swt. We can never completely comprehend Him but he given us enough detail to appreciate His Greatness and Power and to not attribute his names and qualities to others who are not worthy and to distinguish Him (swt) from his creation and his uniqueness.

One must understand that the name YHWH is a compound name which contains the theophoric (deity’s name) prefix, Yhh or Yh, which is followed by the attribute ‘hwh’. The suffix 'hwh suggests the words 'snake' as well as 'to live' in Semitic languages.Hwy means snake in Aramaic and Hyh means snake in Arabic. Hy means living in both Aramaic and Arabic. In Semitic languages, the 'w' and 'y' are interchangeable, depending on the dialect. This name construction, a theophoric prefix followed by an attribute, is common throughout the Bible. The following list of Biblical names illustrates this point: Yh grants gifts, Yehoram=Yh exalts, Yehoshaphat=Yh is judge, Yehosheba=Yh’s oath, Jehoshua=Yh saves, Yehozabad=Yh’s dowry, Yehozadak=Yh’s justice, Yehu=Ya is He etc .Indeed, Yhh, appears over 50 times in the Tanakh, and is used not only in Psalm 68:4 and Exodus 15:2 but also in Exodus 17:16; Psalm 77:12; 89:8; 94:7, 12; 102:18; 105:45; 106:1, Isa. 12:2; 26:4; 38:11, etc.. Yhh’s name is written in the Negev inscriptions as a snake’s head with a protruding forked tongue. (Old Negev script Y + H, which is written: >--O). According to Dr. James R. Harris, the Hebrews carved YHWH’s full image as a ‘radiant serpent’ among these inscriptions. Harris’ conclusion that the early Hebrews were responsible for these inscriptions is supported by the many carvings among these inscriptions of what later became known as the Jewish menorah. These inscriptions are thought to date as early as 1200 BCE. Ancient Near Eastern gods often had animal icons and Yhwh/Yhh's icon was the nehushtan or brass serpent upon a pole. This serpent was worshipped in the temple until is was expelled by Hezekiah (2 K 18:4). However, serpent images decorated the temple until the time of Ezekiel according to Ezekiel 8:10-12. The oldest Hebrew altar dating to 800 BCE, the Beersheba altar, has a snaked carved on its cornerstone.

@Abraham Mani Just saw your comment. I'd happily engage with you in a theological/philosophical conversation with only 1 condition. Please show me anywhere, literally any single passage or groups of passages, where the Old Test. describes a triune Godhead? Strictly talking about O.T. here, not some piecemeal half passage in the O.T. with added context from N.T. Christians, I think with the exception of Marcianites (spelling is certainly incorrect) believe in a triune god, but, from everything I've learned in my life (and I've spent more time than most looking) it exists exactly nowhere in the text upon which your faith is built.
@stoopidpants3 жыл бұрын
@Abraham Mani I am familiar with this passage. Two things; 1. There is no mention of a trinity whatsoever. 2. If you read the passages before this, it's clear what's being discussed has to do with Jews being driven away by the Babylonians. I grew up studying the O.T. in the original Hebrew; it appears you are a fan of the KJV? I would highly suggest, seeing as how you believe there is eternal life at stake, either learning biblical Hebrew (so you do not have to trust the translations of fallible men) or reading other translations of the passage. Perhaps the single biggest reason Christians haven't been able to convert Jews is because the Christians try to explain to us Jews our own book, which we, oftentimes, know better than the Christians. There is a good reason why most Jews today still read these books in Hebrew -- translation from biblical Hebrew to modern English is, inherently, "sloppy" work. What I mean is biblical Hebrew and modern English are such different languages that there will always be nuances and context that is lost for the sake of translation.
@stoopidpants3 жыл бұрын
@Abraham Mani This is specifically what I asked you not to do -- that is use the N.T. to add to the O.T., it's exactly what Morman's do with their "Book of Mormon" to your N.T..

Mr. Tovia Singer is an embarrassment to Judaism. He can only deceive the gullible. In minute 3:08 he shows a slide translating exodus 3:14 which does not exist in any Jewish Bible nor manuscript. Never does this verse include the words with you!!! And all ancient Jewish translators and the Talmud translated exodus 3:14 as I am that I am or I will be that I will be. No one ever dared to add two words “with you” like this liar (sheker) is doing in this video. Verse 12 is different and has I will be with you but that’s a different verse with different Hebrew words not the same as this liar is saying! I would love to speak in person in Jerusalem even with this liar. Does anyone know how I can contact him. I have sent emails to his Judaism outreach site but they won’t respond. Here’s all the Targums dated to the 2nd century and the Jewish Bible from 1907: EXODUS 3:14 JPS 3:14 And God said unto Moses: 'I AM THAT I AM'; and He said: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: I AM hath sent me unto you.' ONK 3:14 And the Lord said unto Mosheh, EHEYEH ASHER EHEYEH. And he said, Thus shalt thou speak to the sons of Israel, EHEYEH hath sent me unto you. PAL 3:14 And He said, This thou shalt say to the sons of Israel, I AM HE WHO IS, AND WHO WILL BE, hath sent me unto you. JER 3:14 And He said, Thus shalt thou speak to the sons of Israel, EHEYEH(1) hath sent me unto you. Moreover the Talmud in bava batra 73a verse 9 lists from exodus 3:14 the I AM as one of three names of God along with Yah and Lord of Hosts which cannot be erased!!! So, ancient Jewish rabbinic literature states the I AM is a name of God!!! There’s plenty of literature online that explains how God’s holy name from exodus 3:15 the Tetragrammaton yod hay vav hay means I AM, I will be and I was!!! The ever existing self existing God!! That’s what the name means. So to say that it doesn’t mean I AM is blasphemy against the LORD himself self and an insult to Judaism! This tovia singer is a liar and I hope he repents!!

"Taking the LORD's name in vain" has MUCH MORE to do with the idea of doing something in God's name that violates His character and which is not what He approves of-- e.g. killing in His name. Saying, "God is the GREATEST!" and then blowing yourself up and killing innocent people is perhaps the vilest example currently happening in our world! OR, doing abortions and saying, "God approves of this," as some pastors are doing lately, is another grievous example. There is so much fear because of a misunderstanding of the Scriptures over the centuries (they were so afraid that since it said God wouldn't forgive that sin, so better safe than sorry and so let's not ever even say His name!!). So now it seems that people don't even "proclaim the Name of the LORD" anymore but instead, like Tovia, reinterpret that command to mean, "proclaim the message of the LORD"...
@sketchbook16 жыл бұрын
The only reason people stopped calling God by His name “Yahweh” is that they revered the Name. Thus Bible translators insert “LORD” in place of Yahweh, and “Lord” in place of Adonai or Elohim.

Why God need a name? We use names to identify us and separate us from others. If there is only one true God, while the rest are false Gods. Then only false Gods need a name. The only true God doesn't need a name. All names we use are used to praise God. His power, mercy, wisdom etc But not to identify him, because there is no other God except him.

Hah-aha Christians think Jesus claims to be God by saying I Am when Christians are translating that same word as I will be. The New Testament writers didn't even know what the correct translation is, I will be whatever I will be, meaning Moses I will be whatever I will be, just go, the Angel speaking for God was just being sarcastic just like when the Angel asked why did Sara laugh The true God wouldn't even ask that question because he would see in Sara's heart, but a simple heavily Angel would ask and would be sarcastic and say I will be whatever I will be, (Moses just go, why are you asking who's sending me just do as i say). Jesus was suppose to say I will be whatever I will be, but this isn't Gods name because God told everyone and Moses to Tell Them The Lord Your God has sent you and THIS IS MY NAME FOREVER, THE LORD YOUR GOD IS MY NAME and not I will be whatever I will be, because God would've said to Moses I will be whatever I will be is my name and this doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Jesus was suppose to say I am the Lord your God and then we lock him up because he's obviously batman crazy because God doesn't become a man and doesn't dwell in buildings made by man or caves, because God doesn't take showers or walk around in human form, because there's nothing like unto him in the heavens and on Earth, Bible and Qur'an and God doesn't alter himself meaning change in Hebrew I am the Lord and i don't alter myself at all. God also told Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers-the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob-has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.… People have been running with this for centuries and it absolutely means nothing Gods name isn't I will be nor I am and everyone is chasing shadows because they have no certain knowledge and only follow conjecture and this is to the Biblical Scholars, making people believe I am is Gods name when it isn't, now if you can translate it to I am, this still means nothing and isn't even Gods name at all and it simply means nothing I am Whatever I am means absolutely nothing. Jesus says I am he in Greek meaning I am he (the Messiah) and everyone and their brothers say this, even Paul and nobody claims they are god, but when Jesus says this in the same way as Paul everyone claims Jesus is saying he's God, when God said I will be whatever I will be or I am whatever I am and didn't even say that's his name and everyone is fooled and chasing shadows in the Dark.

It's from pure monotheistic view as apparently there is Only God. Just like when Muslims says Allah is the name of God, but Allah is just Arabic word for God. They made distinction by saying Allah The Most Merciful and The Most High, or other higher titles to describe His Majesty. However, in Islamic faith, God reveals that His attributes as His name too, hence the 99 names of God. Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim, etc. Anyone refers to those names means they are also acknowledging God the Creator and not just any God. You have to remember, by the time Islam came, there's already 100 thousands religions on earth, compared to during Moses's time.

Also attempting to know God's could be for magic. They think by knowing Gods name they can control God? A more important point was pointed out to me by the spirit. Jesus in the Lords Prayer ask us to say "Our Father who art in heaven". This means that we have the privilege to address God as Father. As you point out are we not being rude and disrespectful if we do not call God Father? Also as you point out you should be careful how and why you address God and that you are not using his name in vain

And yet just a few chapters later in Exodus 34, Moses speaks directly to God and he calls Him by His name YHWH. Then in Exodus 35 he uses the name YHWH repeatedly in addressing the people. In the Psalms David repeatedly addresses God by His name YHWH. Daniel does the same in his prayer at Dan 9. In Ezekiel, many times God Himself says even the nations will have to know that He is YHWH.

Tovia is absolutely great, but wrong on this one. The importance of the name of the Creator is not a parable; the practice by corrupt officials to misuse, substitute & remove the Holy name of the Elohim of IsraEl is lodged in the complaints against the twelve tribes via the prophets; and the abundance of references of knowing and calling on the name is repeated for just that. The people started calling on other gods by name; eventually abandoning the Holy name of the Elohim of IsraEl, hence our ignorance today of the true pronunciation; which is even prophesied, "So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people IsraEl; and I will not let them pollute my Holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am YHWH, the Holy One in IsraEl." (Ezekiel 39:7). Would love to debate this more in depth. Thank you Tovia for your dedication and exposing the unparalleled abomination of Christianity, a profound transgression that is also explicitly coded in prophecy; you are immensely appreciated, but you are human, right on many levels, but not this one. Let the Most High Creator be praised by his Holy name, HalleluYah

now in Exodus 3:14,15 "I am that I am" So did the Catholic make it " I am" that Jesus said so that He is saying He's God. Did He say any were Just "I am" in the word of the Holy word's. Now can this be also " I well be that I well be".
@HilltopSavta7 жыл бұрын
Interesting that he is claimed to have said that. As far as I know, there is no "I am" in Hebrew. The verb "to be" has no present tense. only future or past. Just the pronoun is used, e.g. 'I thirsty." "He happy." No Hebrew speaker, including Jesus, would just say "I." ( "I" WHAT?) Maybe there is the present tense form in Greek, the language of the writers of the New Testament, but not in Hebrew.

This can not be true. There are so many passages, where YHWH is telling his people to use his name, to call on his name, to make is name known. He never told us, to hide, to translate, to replace or whatever you do - with his Name. The missinterpreation of the one law concerning the topic, can not answer all the hundrets of passages telling us a diffrent use of the name. Through almost all the books YHWH is used plentiful. And YHWH is calling his children to us it for blessing them. And so many times YHWH said: THIS IS MY NAME. CALL ME THIS NAME. If you like i can send you the whole list of all the passages, but i quess i dont have to, als you know about it.

Hey my favorite Rabbi I disagree on this one thing with you. However, I do have much respect for you and the knowledge that you share with us. I grew up calling my daddy Tom Tom. I wasn't afraid to call him by his name. However, TomTom was not his real name but everyone else was calling him Tom for Thomas. hehe. Mother always called daddy in for supper like this "Tom(pause)Tom come on in super is ready! I always met my dad when he came home from work with "Tom Tom come on in" and he would swoop me up in his arms and give me a big hug. When daddy got sick and I was old enough to drive he set it up so I could go to the store and purchase stuff in his name. You see Rabbi when mature enough I could act in his name on his behalf. I think it's more like that. You shouldn't say Yehovah Elohim said this that or the other unless He really did because that would be blasphemy in my eyes. If you are using that name you better be telling the truth. It would be like me saying daddy said to get something at that store that he really didn't ask for. That is DISRESPECTFUL use of your dad's name. I like the caller have read where we are to call on that name etc. Instead of saying to fear YHVH maybe the better translation would be to RESPECT YHVH and not curse or otherwise be disrespectful and untruthful using HIS NAME. I think it's perfectly fine if you are doing business in your father's name to make sure everyone knows his correct name so they don't think you are talking about Jesus or some Joe down the street. When you speak your fathers name its not always disrespectful but could be spoken in a loving way to him or about him. Have a great day Rabbi and all

To answer your question, what it actually means is that Moses and the children of Israel would see what Avraham, Yitzchak and Ya'akov did not see. That he is eternal and that he is with them eternally. Avraham, Yitzchak and Ya'akov knew HaShem but not in the form of what his name implies. For instance, HaShem made promises to Avraham and his descendants. Yet, none of them ever saw any of it to fruition. So for them, it was just a promise that they would never know if it was real or not. Moshe saw most of it, minus entering the land. Yehoshua and the Israelites saw it completely. This is why the first several verses of Exodus chapter 6 says what it says.

Why does God want his Name proclaimed in all the earth, if No one is meant to speak his name??? Ezekiel 39 v 7 7So I will make My holy name known among My people Israel and will no longer allow it to be profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. Isaiah 12 v 4 4and on that day you will say: “Give praise to the LORD; proclaim His name! Make His works known among the peoples; declare that His name is exalted. Psalm 91 v 14 -15 Because he loves Me, I will deliver him; because he knows My NAME I will protect him. 15When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; WHAT IS GODS NAME??? Honest answer please.

God himself said to Moses “ THIS IS MY NAME FOREVER” YHVH some pronounce this YEHOVAH some YAHAVAH Like breathing. But you can deduce the correct way by looking at the phrases HALLELUYAH. Or in Psalms it calls God a contracted version of his name YAH. But his name has to mean. I was, I AM, I WILL BE. His name is a composite of three tenses of the Verb “ TO BE” or “I EXIST” So God was telling Moses I am the eternal God, no beginning nor ending. I EXIST full stop. All the others are False Gods or demons. But his name come from three words that denote past present and future tenses of the verb to be or I exist. Hyah, Hoveh, Yihieh. Yah Hov Eh these are contractions but when together form the name that represents the only True eternal God.
