Interesting. Yeah it seems that by lore innistriad could be flat. I always assumed that each plane is bound to its own metaphysical rules, this way the plane laws could be as crazy as needed. Like Segovia, a miniature plane where the visiting planeswalker shrinks acording to the proportion of the plane. But, if they summon a creature from Segovia to a "normal" sized plane it will be tiny. Another thing worth of mention is that probably phyrexia was a Dyson sphere, as it was described having spheres structures that encompass each other.

I’m pretty sure one of the reason the status of planets and universe size is kind of vague and confusing is that it varies in more than one way from plane to plane. Some planes are likely geocentric and others heliocentric. Given Dominaria’s literal central placement in the multiverse, it’s likely geocentric. Theros is probably geocentric too, but I’m making that assumption because it’s modeled after Greek myths. Really cool video, but the way. Innistrad being a flat plane was something I was wondering about recently due to midnight hunt’s story.

In "The Thran" the planeswalker Dyfed brings Yawgmoth and other Thran to a plane that's literally just a cloud of gas without top or bottom. So I would say there are no definite rules as to how a plane should be. I guess that planes like Dominaria and Zendikar are likely more common and 'natural' than others. It appears that more outlandish, magic-prone planes like Lorwyn are also more weird in cosmology. Innistrad has other regions and continents, I think it was mentioned in the pw's guide to Innistrad.

Honestly I'm still holding out hope for these three planer setups. 1. A plane that is a massive hollow in an endless expanse of ground and a sun bound within it's center. It's nights are brought on by many large lifeless planets that orbit and eclipse the sun, with some of it's longer nights having sunlight peak through in the middle of the night. 2. A spherical plane with a gaping hole on it's southern side revealing a hollow interior where it's core used to be. It's former core can be found directly above the hole has mounting and fading light between that of a full moon and an approximation of winters sunlight however warmer opposite the hole due to it being overhead constantly, it also emits the mana of the plane which also generates the planes gravity as it saturates the land while the shape of the plane like a satellite dish produces the gravitational focal point that keeps the former core where it is. 3. An asteroid belt that magic allows to have a collective gravity field (felt from the closest solid over a specific mass) and maintain an atmosphere while also causing those same masses to repel each other enough to prevent them from forming a planetary sphere. A large numbers of animals and most seed pods would likely have means to fly or transverse the space between the land masses (both magical and mundane), turning flight into a common ability and the means to slip past fliers via stealth; forestwalking; producing obstacles (webs and nets); and effects like Bower Passage including a means for your creature/s to lose flying during combat, that planes flight equivalent. There is also a possibility of adding speed and evasion values to flying creatures as a set mechanic with fliers being able to bypass any blockers whose speed + evasion totals are less than their highest speed or evasion; or are with at least one creature whose values are high enough, but are unused if reach or a creature without these values are involved.

In the case of Lorwyn, we get the impression the plane is rather small too. I won't be surprised if the Great Aurora isn't simply the plane changing it's tidal lock. When it's Lorwyn, it's tide-locked into the sun, when shadowmoor into the moon. I would apply the same logic to Innistrad, still, to be honest, I've always envisioned these small planes(like the meditation realm) like small blurbs of space magic carving a pocket into the blind eternities. Probably it was back as it was coming out; I'm certain at least one flavor article back then stated that the author at least personally liked the idea of it being somewhat literally a "storybook world" with it being flat like an open book. I wouldn't put too much stock in the "no seas" thing, personally. Given a) we've seen ultimately little defined geography, like has been the case for most worlds without an explicitly global presentation from its first appearance, and b) how many times the Aurora's changed the world to the point of entire species fading in and out of existence with the day/night shift, I have to imagine that oceans either do exist somewhere beyond what we've seen, or oceans once did exist but have been erased with the Aurora, either bit by bit with each cycle or all at once at some point (especially as evidenced by the racial memory of the selkies and possible ancestral trauma due to a lack of sea).

Always envisioned that Rath was flat. As the flowstone poured in, and the land and plane expanded and grew like slowly pouring paint out of a bucket and watching the puddle grow, spreading across the floor. Also saw Serra's Realm as a flat plane. If you could describe anything that is essentially sky. But as you attempted to walk the floating plains in that plane they would give the illusion of going on forever, but didn't really. Like in Mario64 when you tried to go to the final boss fight before you had completed the prerequisites; you'd look like you're running up the stairs, but turn around and see you haven't got anywhere at all. Lorwyn is explicitly described as flat, or at least bound by actual edges (can't rule out a convex plane!). It's like a Minecraft map. In Minecraft when you get hundreds of miles out from the central block the noise generator experiences a bug and you get the Far Lands, Farther Lands, Edge Far Lands and Corner Far Lands. These regions have bizarre, senseless geography that is near impossible to traverse and in no way resembles any true biome. So it is in Lorwyn: travel in one direction far enough and the terrain becomes increasingly fantastic until it decays into raw magic and drifting rocks and all manner of chaotic marvels. This is the realm from which elementals ultimately hail. It's unknown what lies beyond it, if anything, but it likely just gets weirder and less physical until you reach the edge of the Blind Eternities.
@christopherb5013 жыл бұрын
It was always my impression that, -Dominaria, Rath, Mirrodin, Pyrulea were unambiguously round (the latter inverted, obviously) -Lor/Sha, Innistrad, Mercadia, Theros _were most likely_ flat With most worlds, it's really hard to say with certainty. Especially with places like post-Refraction Rabiah, pre-Convergence Alara or Kaldheim that effectively consist of multiple worlds, trying to track internal cosmology is fundamentally difficult. Not helped with places like Innistrad, Mercadia or Kamigawa that are overall limited in their geographic scope in contrast to places like Dominaria or Zendikar. Even two-world settings like Theros, Kamigawa or Ravnica (via their afterlife/kakuriyo settings) can make it complicated. One thing that would certainly help is if we actually got to venture _past_ the known world for once. Whenever we inevitably get to (Return to)³ Ravnica, I really hope we go to some farther-flung district for a change.

Interesting question about flat planes. With Innistrad I would have to agree it is flat or that another realm exists that mortals cannot live in, but demons, and others similar to it can. If there was something beyond the mist Sorin, self proclaimed guardian, would have utilized it to keep Vampires from over hunting the humans. The other possibility is that this could change at wizards of the coast whims. An example of this would be similar to Kaldhimne where you have multiple worlds that through doom scars come into contact. On the other side of the mists could be another world or is even similar to the inside of the Hevault somehow. that is locked for a reason and Sorin dose not want it open. Very unlikely though. Still I think the meditation realm and Lowryn are flat. I would like to see other shaped worlds as Karn dose mention to Slobad at the end of Fith dawn that in 5 minutes he could show him worlds the size of Thimbles, worlds as flat as plates that are on the back of an animal. Granted that last one might have been a reference to mythology or the disc world novels.
