This bowl is intended to look like a basket. I used opposite colors than Carole Rothman did due to availability of material. I bought a large piece of hard maple on eBay and ripped it into 7/8 to make the bulk of the blank. She had walnut for the7/8 and maple for the 3/8 so I switched colors and used mahogany for the contrast. I had a lot of problems in the angle matchup and entry holes as the drill bit wanted to flex in the thick material. It made for a lot of extra sanding but I did finaly manage to get it finished. I wasn't sure at many times in the process that I would be succesful. But I am pretty much happy with the finished product.
