I'm grateful for your kind words. How are you getting on with the Cmaj7 chord? It should be relatively simple really, especially if your C major is good. But as with all new chords, putting it into practice is the harder part! I found when I first learned this chord and I was trying to play it in a song (The Beatles Misery), I kept on putting the C major chord on and then remembering to take that first finger off. Took a while for the muscle memory to take charge!

@guitar.forbeginners.withdave You're playing is so smooth now that's hard for me to imagine you as a beginner! I'm really happy that I discovered your channel. You're a fantastic teacher! Lately, I've been working through a couple of your videos-- the one where you combine strumming and picking and the one where you teach Closing Time by Semisonic. I really need to improve my finger independence and flexibility. When you have time, I would enjoy hearing your thoughts on the best way to move ahead.

I appreciate that, thanks. Very kind of you to say that. Personally I believe that it's so much to do with practice. The more you put in the easier things like chord changes will become. But you've got to have discipline. Repetition is so important. I think too many people move on to other techniques a little too quickly. When you've got a few chords under your belt find songs that use those chords and practise them over and over again. Here's a site that's pretty good: chordgenome.com You type in the chords you know and it'll find you songs with those chords. It's not always perfect but it's not bad. When I was learning that's what I did, learned a few chords and started playing songs. I didn't do things like the "spiderwalk" to practise finger inderpence but I did play things like the rock n roll walking bass line and that helped me get my fingers moving. You'll have good days and bad days playing but it's the bad days when you need to push through and keep going.
