I bought a HS Bronze Age a little under two months ago and I'm very pleased with it. The nib has a slight issue, requiring a certain writing angle to write smoothly. Once you find this angle, however, it is a lovely writer. The lava resin lends itself very well to long writing sessions, especially during summer when your hands are more prone to getting sweaty. The power filing system is brilliant and very pleasant to operate, besides holding tons of ink and the bayonet closure by which the cap screws on the the barrel is equally amazing. Then there's the rich meaning behind this pen: from the inspiration of the clip to the naming "Homo Sapiens", to the city crest of Florence on the nib-the pen tells you a story. In short, I'm very happy with my purchase and can absolutely attest to the greatness of this model.

@@Mercy_Pants While it's true that they don't have the best reputation with their nibs, they have improved since their palladium nibs, and I would encourage you to look past the complaints. If at all possible, you could go to a brick-and-mortar store to try the pen out before purchasing to ensure it writes to your needs. Else, there are certain retailers such as Appelboom, Pen Venture and Atlas Stationers which will check and adjust your pen before sending it to you if you request that. It may come with a slight additional price, but I think it's well worth it. Visconti pens are truly works of art and I hope you can get your hands on one sometime.

Just got my HS Dark Age and just love it. I don't get what some are saying about how wet the pen writes. I have the M nib and the pen writes perfectly. I own 3 other fountain pens, two Mont Blancs and a Pelikan, and I think they all write wetter than the Visconti.

Thanks for your thoughtful video. In the past, this was my grail pen. I no longer consider this my grail. I have other pens from Japan that rank higher now. To me, its all about the nib, and Japan, specifically Pilot, makes the best nibs in the industry. I don't go for just looks now. Too bad, we can't take out a Visconti nib, and insert a Pilot nib.

One of my less expensive 🖋️ is a Pilot e95s and I consider it one of my best writing pens. Pay a little, get a lot with a Pilot.

I own two of them, in both cases i had the pen either tuned by the seller or a custom grind. So both wrote perfectly when i got them, however they both had other manufacturing defects that required parts replaced, i love the pens i have but the issues are unacceptable and i would never buy a Visconti again without being able to personally inspect it first.

My Dark Age writes smoothly with wet ink flow using Aurora Black ink. However, when I write at times, the tines kind of give out a light clicking sound like they rub against each other. Haven't got time to go check at a service centre yet.

I love Visconti's 23kt Palladium "Dreamtouch" nib (on my Divina Elegance) and hope they bring it back again. But what they really need to do is improve their quality control.

I have had a Homo Sapien for three years now and during all that time I have been frustrated with the filling mechanism. To fill a fountain pen should be a no-brainer, but I’ve ended up watching video after video on how to fill a Homo Sapien. In fact, I watched your video hoping you would comment on it. No matter how hard I’ve tried I cannot get my pen to take up more than a page or two or ink. I find the pen beautiful, but totally useless for what it is supposed to do, ie write for more than a page.

Bronze Age is still my grail pen.. Though I doubt I'd ever own one. Their QC issues are well known and completely unacceptable for the price you are paying for the pen. The idea that a ~$800 pen doesnt write perfectly out of the box, or isnt subject to individual testing at that price is a deal breaker.

I agree, any 🖋️ especially one at that price level should write straight out of the box. I have several 800 series Pelikan pens and all write perfectly from the start. Note: Ali of my pens have been purchased from the same vendor and are each checked and tuned prior to shipment. Obviously if there are problems with Visconti’s pens it probably due to a lack of QC.
