I don't think listening to secular music is wrong unless the lyrics are really affecting you in a bad way, but yes the bible says don't place a stumbling block before someone

Well said! Something all Christians have probably struggled with, me included.. I'd say you'd be pretty safe with The Beatles or Cat Stevens. While "Secular", their lyrics are wholesome and the overall message is wonderful

Thanks for making this video :) I like your point about moderation, and determining to guard your heart so that the negativity doesn't influence you! I listen to tons of music that's just well written lyrically and musically - and it's Christian AND secular music; I think it's available to enjoy the song, but not let it soak into your actions and change you, and I'm thinking of Romans 12:2 here!

It is good to bring this up... I'm going thru the same thing.. with hard rock Christian music. I like rock and roll, been a rocker all my life. I'm not listening to Christians rock as much in the past mo.. for that reason. My favorite band WAS Avenged Sevenfold (Hail to the KING) then I seen the video it was so evil, try cant do it anymore. Shine Down, Skillet, imagine dragons, I weed them out now no matter how much I like the beat... I also listen to Christians station theWay n Colorado... people even pick that apart, so discouraging. Most of the songs lifts me Spiritually. I love Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. He knows our hearts. He will protect us from the evil one. We can't let him keep on having so much power, which he has none over us Christians. Just because some songs don't mention Jesus, doesn't mean that they're of the devil. That's what is on you tube. Even Hillsong.. everything that suppose to do w/God& Jesus you shouldn't watch or listen to. There's fault in everything you watch and listen to... just discern what will effect you Spiritually.. I don't even go to churches, mine is the Holy Bible. God bless you Allah

I just want to start by saying that this channel is one of my favorites of all time. Seeing someone with such a beautiful spirit pouring themselves out in worship is beyond words, and know that you are making a difference for good in the world! As for the topic you discussed, "Is it OK for Christians to listen to secular music?" I don't think that I could agree more with your stance. I'm a college student right now in Virginia, and having experienced public school and the crowds that exist when you go to a university, I know how hard it is to distance yourself from secular music. It is LITERALLY everywhere, but I don't feel worse for having listened to it. Many songs from secular artists make me feel really great sometimes, they can be uplifting as well. I don't always listen to just Hillsong when I need some happier music in my life! And sometimes it is just fun to dance with friends and listen to what they are listening to. So the question is if music was only supposed to be used for the purpose of praising God? Thankfully, for many topics we can look to the Word of God for understanding. As for music, the Bible mentions that David, one of the most prominent musicians of the Bible, used music primarily to praise God. However, it also mentions that David was a shepherd boy, and was often called upon to play the harp for King Saul. The Bible says that this music soothed Saul when he was in distress. Also in the Bible, the Israelites used musical instruments in battle. To warn the people of danger and to surpise the enemy as well. So while the Bible appears to speak to the necessity of music that worships God, it does not in any fashion condemn music that is used for other purposes. I also really appreciated that you mentioned that you often pray before listening to secular music. While I don't believe that everyone has to, I think that it can only help in guarding our spirits. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says "take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ.” What better way to do this than through careful consideration of music through prayer? However, obviously we as imperfect human beings often fall to sin and to temptation, which is why in some cases I believe that it may be better to just not listen to certain secular songs. I understand the difficulty though in deciding which songs are okay to listen to and which are simply not worth the time. I have done a few covers of songs myself that are secular, and in doing so simply replaced a "not-so-great" word with a word that wouldn't turn so many heads. I've also even used secular music as something that I gave up for lent in years past. And while it helped me grow closer to God in some aspects, I do not think that an eternity of abstaining from secular music is what God intends for all of us. All this being said, I think it is extremely mature of you to put this topic out there on your channel and want you to know I will be a supporter until the end!

It's definitely a big struggle for a lot of Christians. I think the blessing of listening to secular music is that we may be more conscious of the words and can pass along to others a different perspective on why that sort of music isn't the greatest choice to be listening to. ☺

I also used to struggle with this when I was your age. the way I got out of it was by looking for similar sounding Christian artists to secular artists. when I found these artists I didn't feel the need to listen to "cool" secular music anymore, because I simply didn't find them entertaining. the artists I recommend are: Colton Dixon, for KING & COUNTRY, Matthew West, Jeremy Camp, MercyMe, Hollyn, Jesus Culture, Hillsong Young & Free, Tauren Wells, VERIDIA, The Afters, We Are Messengers, David Dunn, Capital Kings, Moriah Peters and Love & The Outcome. hope these help. I feel you. Myou way of doing things is listen 99% Christian music and 1% secular with good morals or Sonic the Hedgehog soundtracks (which are way too fun and catchy to not listen to). If there's a secular song that says something it shouldn't, then I make a Christian parody of it like of "Closer." It goes something like this, "Now listen Jesus died for our sake, I ain't ever seen one so great, cause he rose up three days later, on a Sunday known as easter, thanks to you we'll live forever, so we ain't scared not ever, your that diamond your a real ace, we will fill the world with your grace." Try singing that to the main chorus of that song. I know there are songs like Ted Poley and Tony Harnell's "Escape from the City Cash Cash rmx" that people literally get hooked on, such as my buds from the last Christian music school I went to. Good thing is that that songs morals is about living and learning.

I pray every night to help me and other people that needs help with the stuff that if bad. God lead me to search on YT for the things I may need help with. Some songs that I listen to and some movies I watch I need help with and God is saying to search on YT for help with those things. For movies I say if you can't/didn't learn anything from it to be a good Christian, then why watch it. For songs I say the same thing but a bit more stuff for it. If the song says f***, s***, a**hole, b****, ect. (I don't know if I just sinned by putting those but they are examples) like 6 times in a row and still say more of those bad words don't listen to it. If the song talks about drugs, shoot bang bang (not in war), gangs, ect. don't watch it.

Also not to be a stumbling block,so the question is whtever I put in my soul and feed the flesh that will grow,but if I feed my spirit that is what will be more Christ centred,so we should ask the question is it good for me because we all different.Amen

I agree that there are healthy alternatives like britt Nicole and Toby mac. What I do is just listen to certain songs and secular music is hard to avoid just have to be careful on what your listening to and like you said ask the lord to guard your heart on which ones are okay
