God's Word says that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works (Ephesians 2:8-9) Rom. 8 Verses 38 to 39 [38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I think the physical discipline is not bad. It is the spiritual effect that you shouldn't practice. Learning how to have control of your body, is not the same as subscribing to the spiritual effects. The same with meditation and martial arts. Focus on God and having the control to surrender every part of yourself to Him fully. If learning better control of your body helps with that the motive is right. If trying to have control over your body is to glorify you then it is bad.

Thank you for helping me to understand. I gave up Yoga many years ago because something in my spirit kept nagging at me, then I investigated and realized, by participating I was inadvertently worshipping foreign gods by even doing the poses. I think many, many Christians don't understand this, or don't want to understand this.

Just for u, Rose. Yoga is worshipping foreign gods. This is openly known: its worshipful poses. But Taichichuan is different. No religious worship therein. Every taichichuan pose has an inbuilt fighting [practical] application. Consider… (1) Fact: Taoism is a religion that was already around in the 4th century BC whereas as a matter of historical record, taichichuan (meaning,in Chinese, the ‘supreme, ultimate boxing/fist’ for which taichi is its abbreviation) or evidence of taichichuan practice did not exist nor emerge until the 18th century. (2) Taoism became well known during the Tang dynasty (8-10th century AD) but still no sign of taichichuan appeared, despite how the cultivated Chinese in that golden era of China loved to put everything down on record on paper in archives. How then can ancient Taoism be said to create and underpin this relatively modern martial art, called taichichuan? That ‘creation story’ from ancient times in mountain temples is the stuff of legends & hearsay, coming from taichi teachers who may be naive or gullible or who simply have not done their own homework. They assert such ancient BC roots, to make their art look ‘ancient’. The only logical inference and conclusion from existing evidence (not wild, unproven folk legends or hearsay assumptions) we now have in China today, is that, taichichuan is a Neo-Confucianism martial art that emerged during the 18th century. However, the educated elites were sufficiently enlightened to absorb & repackage peasant Taoist concepts & ideas, nominally, into their secular Neo-Confucian philosophy, to make their arts look ‘spiritually appealing’ to [attract] common folks, in order to battle the rise of Buddhism in China at the time. The Neo-Confucian scholars and officials thus borrowed and absorbed terms and concepts from their rivals into their rational, secular philosophy but strongly rejected and looked down on the superstitious and mystical elements of Taoism and Buddhism. (3) Take a look also at the clearly pagan roots of Christmas in history. Yet consider: what is ‘Christmas’ to many Christians today? Not what it was to the Puritans, surely! Accordingly, regardless of what taichi may once have meant, its practice today, needs to be evaluated on the basis of what it means today, to many who practise taichi for physical & mental health only. And certainly not for any spiritual worship/power unlike as in, any religion or anything religious. No mainstream taichi teacher can explain sensibly how taichi benefits anyone - spiritually. Certainly, one who tries to explain or who hopes to be your spiritual master, monk or priest will be the creepy exception to steer clear of! Thus if taichi is so-called Taoist, you might as well forget about what Christmas has become today & claim: Christmas is still so-called pagan today. Why? Well, because Christmas had been either mixed or somewhat affected by its pagan roots to such an extent that the majority of people who celebrate Christmas globally are not even practising Christians. See such ‘mix’ in detail in: www.cabinnotes.net/taichichristianity.html Whether about the roots of Christmas, Easter or Taichichuan, we do need to be consistent with our approach + not opine on matters we do not know terribly well outside our sphere of familiar knowledge, just like I mentioned Jesus Christ to Muslims as my Saviour & focused on only Christ & steer clear of any discussion on Mohammed (even though I had learnt Arabic as a child + we had a copy of the Koran at home in the past). (4) In any case whatever you fear, love, esteem, need, desire, depend or dwell on MORE than God, that is your spiritual heart idol, or your practised ‘religion’ - be that your intense/habitual preoccupation with your social media, smartphone, sport, social/climate justice cause, your career, art, entertainment, kids, health or taichi. The question to ask, with regard to, matters that are not designated as sinful living by God’s Word (such as idolatry, pride, lies, practising fornication, adultery and homosexuality) isn’t the specific reductionistic question: Does this thing look sinful or not? Much like the pointless way liberal progressives have claimed notwithstanding Scripture, that practising homosexuality between ‘practising’ Christians genuinely in love, looks like a beautiful thing or that “becoming transgender is a sacred journey of becoming whole” (thus wrote Rowan Williams). What a shock! If you look, go beyond superficial looking + instead ask the holistic question(s) required, all-time, by Scripture: Am I giving glory to my Lord by and in this matter? Am I living Coram Deo? If one accepts that taichi is secular, then, the Scriptural direction has to be 1 Cor 10:31. Do it all for the glory of God. Does practising taichi cause you to give thanks & praise to God for it as a blessing received from Him? Does it give you opportunities wherein you witnessed Christ & the gospel to the lost, to your instructor & others, thereby making His ways & salvation known? Psalm 67. Just make sure you do not stumble others to sin, 1 Cor 10:32, for example, by speaking the truth in love. No wonder you are further instructed to keep your peaceful conviction quietly between you & God, if unquestioned, undisputed: Rom 14:22. However, for those in doubt for whatever reason(s), they must stay out, Rom 14:23b. Feel conflicted? Follow your present speaking conscience. Stay out. If you do whatever you believe is not right, you are sinning. Yet, with regard to a disputable matter (not designated as sinful behaviour or sinful lifestyle or sinful living in Scripture), please do not pass judgment on your brothers or sisters in Christ, who belong to the Lord + who will stand before His judgment seat to give an account of themselves to Him, just like you, Rom 14:10-12. Hope that helps. I don’t do yoga. Nor taichi, though we know other Christians who do taichi just for physical & mental health.

It is absolutely false to characterize Tai Chi as a "blending of good and evil". But even if that were the case (it's not, but even if it were...), the same is said about God in the Bible: "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." - Isaiah 45:7

@@johnmorpheus120 - Not sure what you are referring to. Where is the bible does it say what? This guy does seem to have his eye opened to the works of darkness through Tai Chi and that is the purpose of his video - to warn and inform Christians who think there is nothing wrong with Tai Chi. I think maybe you, and many who commented below have misunderstood his communication. The purpose of this video is to explain the philosophy behind Tai Chi (where to the point good and evil merge and you become God) but that this belief is vastly different to Christianity as he declares in 3:20. This guy is Malaysian so the way he speaks can be confusing to some. He is NOT proclaiming himself to be God. He is showing you that if you participate in Tai Chi that is the religion you embrace and then he asks you a rhetorical question, do you think that matches up with Christianity?

His bottom line answer is, "No." If you hear him all the way out - he is not preaching the merits of Tai Chi at the beginning - he is just fairly stating what Tai Chi adherents would say. Later, he contrasts that with Christianity and reveals that Tai Chi, when practiced in its full form, is NOT compatible with Christ. While I agree that Christians should not seek to become God (that seat is filled), we should strive to be as much like the Lord, Jesus Christ, as possible. The more similar to our Creator we become - the more pleased He will be with us.

I read a book years ago about Martial Arts and Orthodox Christianity. All great saints and even all great biblical figures where Martial Artists. They went to war, they fought.. There wasn't all "peace" and "love". Heck, even the greatest "saints" commemorated by Orthodoxy and Catholicism were actual high ranking officers in the army! THe premise of the book was that martial artists are calmer and better because they learn to express their anger through the martial art, and true martial artists became grounded. Indeed, adopting any martial art doesn't mean you should start praying to those gods or follow the religion. If people would look at all religions, we'd soon see that most of them have a lot in common, actually, most of them have approximatively the same solutions to our modern problems. Martial = Form of warfare, fighting. How else to protect yourself and protect your country? Anyway, the book addressed MANY very interesting points in which I came to change my mind and stop viewing martial arts as bad, instead, as something necessary Remember the saying: "But test everything. Keep what is good, and stay away from everything that is evil."

Hey says "They are vastly different." He says the belief of Tai Chi is that god exists as energy in everything and that god is both good and evil. "Master philosophy has blended good and evil." but GOD is absolutely good. So no, Tai Chi is not a practice for a Christian. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6W8q519mtGknbs But is it possible to divorce this foundational belief and only hold on to the principles that of which is simply awareness of specific aspects of reality? The meditation is not to empty the mind but to become aware of the internal and external. He says, "the master has blended hard and soft" is it possible to just leave it at that? Hard and soft, not with the implications of good and evil? I think most people who take up the martial art practice of Tai Chi do it because it is a health practice that the elderly can do and because it is a defensive martial art. I don't think the average person is trying to be a Master. Maybe the practice of Tai Chi as a Christian is just a "slippery slope" so to speak. To aspire to be a Master, now that there is the danger. and how do we consider this question when looking at 1 Corinthians 8 ?

You don't need to add the Taoist philosophy to tai chi. Martial arts always has two parts to it, and yes-most if not ALL founders had some sort of "spiritual awakening" when they founded the art. But you don't need to follow their beliefs to do the art. Yoga is based off of poses that were used to worship pagan dieties, tai chi (correct me if I'm wrong) is essentially a balancing art. You are taking the natural movements of nature and your every day Life and applying it to a better center, making you more aware of your own body and improving your physical state and therefore, simultaneously improving your mental state. Maybe if you want to become a higher level then to acheive that you need to get into the spiritualism of it (most martial arts require that, if you are associated with a hombu dojo) But if you just want to learn how your body works, or to get better mobility, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing tai chi from a Christian point of view 🤷

have been performing Sun and Yang styles TaiChiChaun for 4 years and have taken time to look into the spiritual origins of Tai Chi. My instructors have us develop our Chi with Qigong and practice. We stimulate our acupressure points with Qigong. We mediatate to practice Tai Chi principles - posture, weight shifting, clearing the mind, deep and controlled breathing, and relaxing the joints. These principles are what makes Tai CHi different from exercise. And we do this without bringing in Taoist philosophies.

''Supreme is blending of good and evil, so it is neither good nor evil?" uh uh, God is all good and all Light. In Him there is no darkness nor shadow of turning and definitely not a blending of good and evil. the Bible says we are passed from darkness to light, not into a cloudy grey mist. I wish he did not try to justify it like a spiritual enlightenment philosophy, because to be honest I really want to try tai chi as an exercise regime to boost my health only, not dabbling into anything, you know, and this guy's not helping much to put my mind at ease.

Maybe you can find a teacher who will teach it just as exercise, but the class I tried I've decided to stop because it's all about "developing chi" the energy, cultivating it and after every routine "playing with the chi" you put it back into your body. It was also so slow for me that I wanted to fall asleep. I've also been more depressed after starting it, but that might be other circumstances, too.

I have studied more than one form in which it is practiced as solely a physical discipline with no religious underpinnings at all. Further, there are Christian instructors who incorporate the elements of Christianity into the practice if their students desire. It is completely up to the practitioner, and not inherent to the martial art.

This reminds me of something in Ecclesiastes (7:15-18) that's always given me pause. Is this truth, or just the recorded conclusion of a worldly man?: I have seen everything during my lifetime of futility; there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his wickedness. Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself? Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time? It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them.

Never once while doing yoga or tai chi was I thinking I was worshiping any god. I do think I was participating in a good activity that another culture had discovered. The inward focus on relaxing while moving is a helpful counter to calisthenics. The only western physical exercise that I have done that focuses so completely on what you are doing inside as much as outside form is dance, whether classical ballet or modern dance. You just cannot achieve certain qualities of movement by just attacking them.

I don't really do tai chi but I know tai chi people. real Tai Chi has absolutely nothing to do with mysticism. there might be tai chi people who on the side have done mystical training and tried to incorporate it into their art. but it's a martial art for fighting and secondly for health depending on how you practice and if you do it correctly. every human has a physical body and a spiritual body. most people's spiritual body is seriously underdeveloped (myself included) and many probably don't even believe they have one. but with most tai chi out there you are only working with the energy of your physical body which is for health and you aren't even doing anything spiritual. you are not blending good and evil nor are you becoming god that is a bunch of crap lol that sounds like some new age bullcrap it has nothing to do with tai chi and that isn't even tao philosophy lol people just like to make things up about stuff that they don't understand and then foolish people believe them. with genuine spiritual development it's about dissolving the self and unifying with a higher power and returning to your original design. returning to purity and true holiness. it's not about becoming God the people who say that are cult leaders and not true teachers, but instead you are filled with the spirit of God and it overflows through you and you become an agent of grace. and what happens at the end of the path which is extremely rare but I've heard about 3 people who've had this happen where they were so advanced in their spiritual practice that all darkness was completely gone from them and they were spiritually developed at the highest levels and they actually left this physical world without dying and went into a higher plane or heaven or wherever. Jesus and Elijah aren't the only ones who've had something like that happen to them there are others. might not be the same but something similar.

God is perfect but, does that means He's absolutely good? In the Old Testament, He killed those who went against His perfect plan. Does that makes Him bad? I think God is beyond what we consider good or bad, soft or strong. Does God call us to be saints or to be perfect?

after watching this video, i just had to login to youtube to criticise this. I'm of asian descent, born into a christian family. this video was most likely motivated by xenophobia that seeks to discredit asian practices. Taichi as an exercise, btw, has nothing to do with spiritualism. The guy in the video has surreptitiously muddled the exercise with religion. Yin and Yang does not refer to Evil vs Good by the way. Yin and Yang is referring to the relative duality of things (eg male/female, hot/cold etc) and about the need to balance between the duality to avoid extremes (like extreme christian evangelists). Yin Yang is a common concept used in traditional chinese medicine. Chi is somewhat like the equivalent of energy that is present in all things and there is no spiritual concept to it, just like Einstein would agree that all matter contain some form of energy. My sympathies to the flowers and leaves that were harmed in this video.

I'm interested to try this tai chi and I was somewhat conflicted but I suppose it's how you view it. Tai-chi to me shows that the practice is healthy, but only the practice is healthy. I do not believe what the taoist believes. I believe that this "chi" is merely loose or unfocused energy. I believe this energy to be light or at least a product of light since light is everywhere and can be trapped within the air, the flesh, the flower and the water, not a divine being but a product of a divine being. We all know that YAHWEH created the light, we all know that YAHWEH said Himself that the light is good so therefore if you would practice tai chi with a Christian view then you would just be working with the light, so long as you keep the Lord in mind and use tai chi to glorify God in a Christian way I don't see how it could be detrimental in any way. God bless.

I don't think it is safe, just to let you know. Have you seen videos on line of tai chi or taekwondo masters? There is one where the master simply pushes a 'ball of energy' and from a distance, 7 men are thrown backwards. This is demonic. This 'energy' is the conjuring up of spirits. Please do more research before you yoke yourself with a potentially demonic and spiritually devastating practice.

Wow, I have never heard a description of Tai chi that is so completely wrong. Tai Chi is not a spiritual pursuit. It does not seek to blend good with evil. I would hope that as a Christian you would understand that the energy in the universe that God created is not God, but like everything in this orld He created it is there for our use. If I know the energy is not Divine or God but a part of nature that God created for my use, there is no Biblical reason not to train.

After much consideration, with Christ in me, I have learned there is no protection when I'm not in Christ.. but in Christ, I am fully protected from any yoga, or Tai chi Spirit that's not in Christ. But every Spirit born of Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, even before he came to Israel! Jesus Christ asked, how did King David know Jesus before he became human ("the LORD said to my Lord")? Jesus visited people and filled them with His Spirit before the new covenant! and He delivers me, (shows me how to stop) when I'm a blind perpetrator of evil, when I'm an intentional perpetrator of evil. From My judgemental thoughts, from my fears of other religious beliefs, from an actual demon with a goat/ lama appearance. He spoke bold prayer words thru me "Lord make me a demon buster" He moved me to cut my hair as a pact to receive His Holy Protection. At the moment the demon appeared and woke me, He filled me with His Spirit and became the Power in me, (no fear, just confident boldness), He was my actions, He gave me the visions to show me how to bind and lock the demon away in a "concrete dam". Done, no more problems, no note disturbances, my sleep competently restored. He flooded me with His powerful Pure Spirit one week after defeating that demon, baptism by Holy Spirit, Born Again, partly, and also cleansed from the fear of the psychic who was being contacted by a ghost. In Christ, His Spiritual indwelling cannot be overcome by any yoga belief or Tai chi deity, His Holy Spirit is too powerful! END OF STORY Y'ALL! Whatever you decide, if you do it out of fear, you are in the false god of Religieon, you are not in Jesus Christ Messiah Yeshua. If you choose to not be around a bunch of yogis and Tai chi people who worship their fitness and bodies like a god, you probably make a great choice. But how will we grow the kingdom if we don't encounter those who are thirsty for The True Spirit of Life, and share what we have been given with them? You first must receive His True Spirit of Compassion, Love, Boldness, Soundness, and it's not a spirit of fear or timidity. He does not give us a spirit of fear and timidity, but (His Spirit of) Power, and Love, and self-discipline. 2 Tim 1:7 I pray for great leaps and bounds in your journey into the Beautiful Powerful All Protective Fortress of Christ's Body. Peace! to my friends and to my enemies!!! 🙏🥰🙌🧏

Your example of yin and yang being good and evil reveal how little you understand. They're opposites yes, but complementary. Up and down, in and out, light and dark. There's no value judgement, these things are not good or bad, they're just things that are different. The yin yang is about balance, not becoming God. Your understanding of qi is also wrong. The whole world is energy, matter is energy at slow vibration, quantum physics shows this. It's not about taking power from god. It's about relaxation, the letting go of tension, and the improvement of health. LIKE ALL EXERCISE. Tai chi is spiritually neutral. Talk of qi and whatnot is part of traditional Chinese medicine but isn't necessary to believe in, it's not a spiritual practice unless you want it to be, and only then it only provides a clear head to let you commune with whatever you like, be that your higher self or the deity of your choice. There are plenty of studies that document the physical and mental benefits of practice. Ultimately it's only physical movement. There's nothing ungodly or spiritually conflicting about exercise. Are christians allowed to go to the gym? To sit quietly? To get a massage? Anyone who claims it conflicts with christianity has their own agenda and is lying to you. Qigong means working with the breath, there's nothing mystical about breathing deeply. Claiming otherwise is total bunk, and dishonest. By focusing on the "mysticism" angle and how people are talking about "foreign gods" tbh y'all sound like you're just racist toward exercise that started in other countries. There's no inherant worship to yoga or tai chi unless you choose to dedicate your movement to your god. There's nothing evil about moving the body and breathing. To worship takes intent beyond gentle stretching. Y'all sound like you don't understand any of the things you're judging as ungodly.

When I see things like this I have to question whether or not there is any hope for our survival as a species. We a pathetically immature. If you think that the bible and the story and teachings of Jesus are the final word on what is acceptable or what is not, you are denying your ability to use your own mind, and if you don't trust your own mind, why do you trust your mind to decide to be a Christian? People are easily led. Human beings can be managed like cattle if they can be made afraid and then conveniently given the remedy for their fear by the people that made them afraid. That's the history of religion in a nutshell. If you can't trust yourself, if you can't feel empathy and love naturally and respect the workings of your own mind, why in the world can't you? What is it that makes you so unwilling to trust yourself?

If truly wanna know who you are get a personal relationship with your creator, and Satan and no devil from hell will have so much in the dark. God said let us make man in our image and likeness. smh first the founder created tai chi from a dream that god himself taught him to fight most people dont even know that. Also ive noticed people say the believe in life force and that it isnt religious to practice that. Qi is a vague word in china it means energy of any kind kinetic, potential, mechanical, electrical, momentum all can be defined as chi guess what qi was given to us by god.......i know crazy who woulda thought and you cant prove anything different with out god himself saying so, so unless you're bring the big guy upstairs stop just assuming it wasnt intended as a gift especially since he taught it to the founder in a dream. Also when i practice and have a good practice i feel energy build a tingling sort of guess what ive got that same feeling when ive gone into places of worship oh i know that probably grinds your gears god forbid you realize you're no one to even decide this. Oh and studies have been done with blood work and after 3 months white blood cell counts tripled which means their bodies ability to fight disease tripled but nah you've taken that is honestly a gift from god and basterdize it cause you wanna always make religion a pissing contest seriously this type of close mindedness makes me sick and has scared me totally away from religion. God gave us this and its disgusting that this is an argument even grow up and get off your high horse ya know like god intended you too. Sorry about any offense but i believe strongly that this came from a higher power and ill be damned if i let anyone tell me different. Holy spirit is a fancy word for qi now get over yourselves

I am sure that this man is trying to do a good thing but he is 100% wrong about his characterization of Taichi. I have been taught by a 4th generation master and have been teaching Taich for 30+ years. So I am not telling you an opinion. I got my information right from the horses mouth. The last thing that Taichi is trying to do is turn anyone into God. In fact this practice is only involved in understanding natural LAw. It has nothing at all to do with religion. If you can't see hard and soft in nature the your eyes are closed but nobody with any knowledge is suggesting that you should become some blend of good and evil. This is nonsense. I stand by ready to debunk all of these myths. By the way I have been a Christian my entire life and if I had to chose between the 2 I would chose Christ anytime. This would be like giving up pizza to be with Christ. In reality one has nothing to do with the other.
