The hardest part of Lazy Bastard for me is having to stop myself from mindlessly going and handcrafting something late game. Hours in, go "Oh, I need a power pole here," bam, achievement lost. I feel so dumb every time.

You can disable your ability to handcraft at all. I don't remember exactly how, but there is a way, Nilaus did this in one of his playthroughs. Can be a true run saver

You should remap your keybindings that are used for crafting to something uncommon, like Ctrl-Shift-LMB, this helps me tons when I try playing 100% speedrun.

@@birdmanballs69 Normally, evolution builds up over the game, making the spitters and biters stronger as you continue to expand your base. This is usually at a rate where you can keep up with your existing weapon techs. Now, imagine essentially having max enemy health and damage when you still have a little pea shooter as a weapon. To add on top of that, he's also trying to get every achievement, some of which are timed, require certain techs to be avoided till a rocket is launched (triggers end game screen) and can drastically change how you build your factory (lazy achievement).

100% achievements includes especially one which makes this harder at the beginning. You are only allowed to handcraft a max of 111 items during the entire game (until you launch your first rocket). This means a very slow start, as the number of burner miners and other things are really limited, as you can not keep hand crafting things. This in turns means you have to have a strategy from the start, which items exactly craft by hand as you have to craft the first assembler within those 111 items. Also there are achievements to finish the game within x amount of time (I think the shortest one is 8h but not sure as I’ve never attempted those). So you have a very slow start but still have to launch the first rocket in a very short time. I think those are the two of the main achievements, which make this one really hard.

well, the difficulty is high of course, but due to the fact that he only has 8 hours to launch a rocket it wont be a time intensive one. of course some achievements go on longer then launching your first rocket, but to get to the rocket hell have to unlock enough technology that the biters wont be much of a problem anymore at that point in the game.

About the lazy bastard achievement, it may be a good idea to lock your ability to handcraft by stripping yourself of the pernission.

Lazy bastard is one of the finest examples of irony in videogames. It's far and away one of the most difficult to achieve challenges in Factorio and it's entirely about being "lazy".

@@TitoRigatoni you have to plan things out and carefully ration your crafts. Idly crafting yourself things is a habit that dies pretty hard, and can lock you out of the achievement. It's much more difficult to not simply press a button once and watch it slowly get done, and instead be forced to think twice about everything you do.

In a vacuum, Lazy Bastard is not "difficult" (especially with autosave-relooading), but more like "tedious". Combined with all the other challenges though, lazy bastard does add a considerable amount of difficulty. And yeah indeed, great irony indeed, as this achievement is literally the most work out of any achievement in the game. 20M green chips? you can automate that and go afk lol

Michael is going at it again, let's see how this playthrough pans out. I think "Lazy Bastard" was a bit harder in the past as the Assembly machine 1 could only craft recipes that required 1 or 2 ingredients, which meant that you had to craft the Assembly machine 2 by hand as well as only being able to craft 1 Steam engine by hand. I still have fond memories about my "Lazy Bastard" playthrough 😄

Woooo, great content. absolutely fantastic. If i may give a bit of feedback, for me personally the last series dragged out a little too long even though the content itself was great. I don't know if i would have liked the video's to be even more condensed and even more left out but at a certain point the base has undergone so many changes it's hard to get back in to when a new video comes out. i don't know if that makes sense or even if i shouldn't whine about it lol. Thanks. The old series has not finished yet, and I will finish it in the same style as it has been going until now. I thought about rushing the end, but I think I'd regret not finishing it "properly". I think one of the reason my series stands out is because every step of the base progression is included, instead of large bits of unexplained stuff randomly poppung up everywhere.
