Is it Safe to Fit 15 Year Old Tires to Your ADV Bike? | + HOW TO FIT TUBELESS TIRE BY HAND

I've always wondered whether it is safe to fit tires older than 5 years (the manufacturers' recommended reTIREment age). I've recently got my hands on a set of Metzeler Karoo ADV tires from 2008 (15 years old!) and it's time to test how good or bad they do.

I think as long as you inspect them properly and ride sensibly there should be no issues. Obviously keep checking them. temperature when running is the most likely thing to degrade them plus kerbing and using over rocks etc.

Thanks. I will check the pressures often. I am not too worried in the dirt as traction is already sketchy... but on tarmac I'll be very careful around corners.

Honestly it's up to everyone, but I guess we're not racing drivers and the tires definitely have a longer lifespan than they say...

Yes, it happens, but these are very rare cases, mostly a slow leak of pressure is enough and the tire will be damaged very quickly...@@GreaseAndGravel

I just bought a 2004 gs and it had brand new tyres that are 10 years old. They look perfect but I’ve been told they are hard. I’ve just passed my test and although I wish I could keep em, I’m going to replace. I’m just not confident enough to trust at this point. If it were a car tyre I’d use them in a heartbeat.

Thanks for sharing @@smoll.miniatures ! That's what is bugging me too. In the dirt, I don't mind as grip is unpredictable and I compensate for it. But on the tarmac I don't want any surprises. Enjoy your GS!

super video , samo mi nije jasno zašto si skidao kočiona klješta . za tako stare gume nisam baš siguran koliko je to dobro. po mom mišljenju trebao si promjeniti i ventile vjerojatno su truli. pozdrav iz hrvatske

Hvala na gledanju. Smatram da je lakše skinuti kotač nakon skidanja čeljusti. Prekasno sam se sjetio ventila! Prednji je stradao. Morat ću ponovo skinuti gume da ih zamijenim.
