Ha! I was just thinking that too, along with one of my motorcycle magazines that came with a tear-out insert promo advertisement 45 record of a Kawasaki Ninja that was doing a speed shift take off acceleration, and if you correctly guessed the rpm that the bike was being shifted at, you could win some kind of prize.

This is what we called 'bubblegum music' because it was aimed towards pre-teens and teenagers. I remember buying ARCHIE comic books, watching THE ARCHIE SHOW on Saturday mornings, (BTW, Sabrina The Teen-Age Witch was an Archies character), and of course listening to this sweet and joyful music!

They kind of made fun of 'Bubblegum' as a genre in the rock opera Phantom of the Paradise. They should think of maybe doing 'The Hell of It' from that soundtrack. I've also always thought that they'd love the full version of Vangelis and Jon Anderson from Yes, doing 'of Mr. Cairo.'

I was 13 when this song came out in 1969 and I still love The Archies. "Sugar Sugar" was their biggest hit (and the #1 song of 1969) but they also had Top 40 hits with "Bang Shang A Lang", "Jingle Jangle" and "Who's Your Baby?". Their song "Sunshine" only reached #57 but IMO is nearly as good as "Sugar Sugar" while "Get on the Line" was not released as a single but should have been and I enjoy many other songs from their 5 albums. Ron Dante was the lead singer and later produced many of Barry Manilow's albums and hit songs. Ron Dante was also the lead singer of The Cuff Links who had a Top 10 hit "Tracy" while "Sugar Sugar" was still in the Top 10.

Went to a concert a couple years ago called "HAPPY TOGETHER" tour. Ron Dante was a featured artist and he is the one who wrote this song and performed it. The Archie's were a cartoon band that I loved watching as a kid. They had other songs but this one was their big hit. At the concert, Ron Dante played this song with the projection of the cartoon behind them. While performing the song, I saw many moms & dads had their kids and singing and holding their kids hands dancing in place saying THIS is music we grew up with. IT WAS A GREAT SHOW.

There came a point when the Monkees rebeled and demanded a say in their own music. Up to that point music director Don Kirchner had been stocking the show with songs from his New York stable of writers like Neil Diamond and Carole King. He submitted Sugar Sugar but the band, already fighting accusations of being lightweight teeny bop sellouts, said no way. They eventually got him fired, so Kirchner decided to make a hit pop group that was utterly under his control, because they didn’t exist- The Archies! They had I think 6 albums of basically Saturday morning soundtrack pop music, and Sugar Sugar and Jingle Jangle were the biggest hits. There are books and KZbin videos on bubblegum music, and a lot of it is both genius and dated garbage at the same time. Instantly hummable and also plastic product, but the kids at the time didn’t care. This was a time when every cartoon had its own band and so did live-action shows like The Partridge Family and even Sigmund And the Sea-Momsters. I was born in the early 70s so I caught the reruns later on in the decade, and then the 80s hit.

Check out Neil Diamond's "I'm a Believer", which was written for The Monkees' TV Show, and was also produced by Jeff Barry. Catchy tune, and is the reason Barry needed someone to carry on after Neil bailed. Check out Neil Diamond's "Hot August Night" from the Greek Theater on August 24, 1972. The best era for Neil Diamond, although he was very successful following that, and is "as big as (maybe even bigger than) Elvis" to his fans. He was an incredible singer, regardless of whether you're "into his music" or not. After sampling some songs like "Cherry Cherry", "Sweet Caroline", "Solitary Man", "Cracklin' Rose", and "Kentucky Woman", the must-listen track from that album is "Holly Holy". If you listen to the tone and character of his voice on that song, especially the opening verses... then consider that this is after singing an entire concert... it's very impressive! NO AUTOTUNE.

The Archies were a fictional band - the characters of the old "Archie" comic series, made into a Saturday morning TV show, and made into a band. Archie, Reggie, Jughead, Veronica, and Betty all were in the band. The actual music was written and performed by top-notch session musicians - writers Jeff Barry and Andy Kim, and performers Ron Dante and Toni Wine were the core. Modern teen-angst soap "Riverdale" - which is based very loosely on the original comics - has a variation on the Archies, as well - playing some of the original Archies music. The Archies were created by Don Kirchner, whose experience with "The Monkees" made him unwilling to work with live musicians - Kirchner wanted a TV band over which he had complete control - and thus the Archies were created. In many ways, the Archies were the forerunners of both live action and animated bands to come: The Partridge Family (live action), Josie and the Pussycats (animated), and even Gorillaz are to varying degrees derived from the Archies! Most of the "band"s music was released on vinyl - Sugar Sugar was their biggest hit, with "Who's Your Baby?", "Bang-Shang-A-Lang", and "Jingle Jangle" all getting into the Top 40 as well.

Cute sharing always comes before savage sharing. The inevitable slide down. That's why we have awesome music to remember the happy, innocent times when we didn't mind taking alternating chugs of a milkshake. lol.

The band Archies was part of a TV show developed for little kids on Saturday mornings. The Archies actually had a couple of hits - including this one.

😆 I remember the Archies, a cartoon, and The Monkees, a show of actual people (well, characters in a kiddy show, not actual people), every Saturday morning when I was a wee tad back in the early 70s. Never missed an episode! 😆👍

archie comics go back to the 1940s. the characters have evolved with the times, but are the same age now as they were back in the days of WW II. on saturday mornings in the late 60s you'd find me eating cereal and watching archie cartoons on tv. i still read archie comics. some things just stick with you.

This is a song co-written by Andy Kim, a Canadian singer/songwriter. He couldn't get any interest from US record labels in the demo so he sold and recorded the song for the cartoon show The Archies. It went straight to number 1 and was record of the year for 1969. With this under his belt he was able to get a record deal, and had a couple of his, primarily Rock Me Gently, and Baby I love You. He later changed his (stage) name to Baron Longfellow.

i never knew this song was from like archie archie characters. i knew they sung in the old cartoons but never like this. i like archie. i liked the weird mysteries cartoon, and i watch riverdale on the cw. i never read the comics, but i used to buy sonic the hedgehog comics, and archie comics writes that, so i would still always see archie in my comic books anyway. lol

Andy Kim co-wrote this. He was a "replacement" for Neil Diamond when Neil posted ways with producer Jeff Barry, the other writer of this song. It's obvious that Jeff Barry got Andy Kim specifically to try and replace Neil. But Neil progressed beyond the bubble gum pop like this. A good song of Andy's is "Rock Me Gently", which most people thought was a Neil Diamond song. It's worth checking out.

This song comes from the Saturday morning cartoon "The Archie Show". It lasted one season and came from the comic book series of the same name that was very popular in the 50's and 60's. The songs were written by well known songwriters of the day and performed by studio musicians. This song spent 4 weeks at number one in 1969. "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" is a spin off series of this.

The Archies were a cartoon series in the sixties and seventies. They've been in comic books for decades. The singer's name here is Ron Dante. He was the voice for all of The Archies songs...

We called this "Bubble Gum music. Because it's so simple and innocent. By the way this group was formed based on the Archie comics. You know Archie, Reggie veronica and betty. oh and Moose and Jughead too. If you ever watched Riverdale on Netflix, thats all the Archie characters but played by real people. And it's surprisingly dark. I mean bad things happen in the show. The spin off group to the Archies was Josie and the Pussy cats and both the Archies and the Pussy cats appear on the show. And they both were cartoons in the 70's.

It was written by Andy Kim. It does contain a lot of instruments but "The Archies" were a makeshift band that had to be put together because, since the song was originally made for the cartoon "The Archies", and it was an unexpectedly huge success, the public was demanding a performance by the group in the cartoon (The Archies), which wasn't real! So The makeshift "Archies" were born. The cartoon has, in recent years, been brought back to life by the show Riverdale, which was the name of the school that the cartoon characters went to.
