The tiles are easier to maintain in a kitchen than wood. They are far more forgiving of water than wood. Wood is better than tile in a dining room. The joints of dining chairs can be compromised by the uneveness of tile.

Love the tiles instead of the wood. I had hardwood flooring and it takes a lot of hits and I was forever fixing. I would suggest putting them in on point. I know it’s more work but really nice. Things don’t bounce so if you drop something it will brake. A long mat at the sink and chopping area helps.

For me, there's no contest... the tomette tiles are in keeping with the age/style of the original building. While Buddo's craftsmanship shines masterfully on everything he's touched and certainly could craft a stunning wood floor, I think the tiles will create a more "bespoke" complimentary feature to your exquisitely beautiful craftsman farmhouse kitchen! Besides, I think tiles will stand up to a malfunctioning leak from a sink, dishwasher, or laundry washer better than a wood floor might... especially if a pipe broke while you were away for a few days... just a thought! I love this kitchen so far. The windows are beautifully crafted by Buddo and painted by Tracy. I can't wait to see all the rest of your antique dishes, crystal copper, etc, adorning your custom bespoke kitchen, Tracy!🥰

I'd choose the tomettes hands down. You've used them elsewhere and intend to use them in other parts of the house. Putting them in the kitchen will unify the house decor-wise. Although I love all the English touches you've added to the place, it is, after all, a French farmhouse and would add a French touch to the kitchen. I think they look fabulous next to Budo's outstanding kitchen cabinets.

There are advantaged to both flooring systems and disadvantages too. the wood is easier on your legs and if you drop a dish on it there is less of a chance of it breaking but it is harder to maintain then the tile flooring. The tile flooring is beautiful and warm looking but in truth unless you have underfloor heading it is cold under foot in the winter and harder on your legs and as I have said if you drop something breakable on it welllllll enough said. Some folks I have seen have done a hybrid system of a grid of tiles tied together by planks. An interesting idea but not sure how practical that is. In the in Do what will make you happy. it is your house after all.

Hi Teresa yes that's ok if your floor covering doesn't cost a fortune but over half our floor will be covered by cabinetry and terracotta flooring tiles At £125 per square meter that's very wasteful that would be for us around £1175 hidden away also if we go for hard wood its the same and not good for the environment to cut down then hide away all the best Budo x

Just my input. As you age and none of us are getting any younger, I find the terra cotta floor would be tiring to stand on all day. I have had a slate floor and it was hard to stand on all day. Wood would be my decision. Just had two knee replacements and surgeon asked what kind of floors I had. When I said wood, he was pleased.

Hi Jacqueline thank you kindly on the water filter system its a great bit of kit and will give you A1 drinking water its charged with a USB or solar even in your car its really more for an emergence or if you go camping or say the water at home goes down i think you can plum it in if you have a spare tap but for me i love it as i only drink highly filtered water thats why i put one on our fridges drinking water and ice hope this helps all the best Budo xx

If it were me, I probably would go with the wooden floor just because I don’t know how to take care of the tomettes, but it sounds like you’ve lived with them before, so you must know what the drawbacks and benefits are of having them in the kitchen. If all you’re asking is what looks good, I, too, like the tomettes but the difficulty of caring for them would be a barrier for me. Not everyone is afraid of extra work like I am, tho, lol. Do you have enough tiles to run them all the way under the cupboards right to the wall or will you leave the subfloor bare where it can’t be seen? It’s always been a pet peeve of mine when that happens because if you ever want to change around your cabinets later, your flooring won’t match. I have a summer cottage that I’ve been thinking of putting a reverse osmosis system in under the sink but I hesitated because I don’t like the special faucet that you have to run the filters through, it’s so small and it takes so long to fill a pot that I’m just not that thrilled with the idea. I noticed that you don’t have the faucets Installed in your countertop, yet, what will the situation be? I’m sure you’re holding them back to have a big reveal later which is fine, but I just wonder what the set up will be. Will there be a main faucet for washing dishes and then the smaller one for drinking water? That’s what I’d like to know.
@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries3 ай бұрын
Yes we have had them before. The tiles will be laid up to the units and the skirting boards will sit on top of the tile and l doubt in the time we are here we will take the kitchen out and also the faucet will go in soon and we are just with for some components to turn up but we understand were you are coming from sylvanaire thank you for watching and your comment 🙏😍
@antsquirly76543 ай бұрын
As much as I like the terra cotta floor tiles, I, personally, prefer the wood. Wood is quieter, which is why I was tickled when Budo did the wooden countertops. I'm thinking, too, that you will, over time accumulate a number of broken tiles. Granted, like sections of wood, you can pull up tiles and replace them. But it's easier to replace a type of wood that might be 10 years used and can be stained to match as opposed to fitting in a new ceramic tile amongst older ones. But, at the end of the day, you'll do what you want.

Funny you are considering the terra-cotta tiles for the kitchen. I personally love them. Currently in the housing market to purchase and have found a beautiful French style stone home in the US with the same (similar) tile throughout most of the ground floor. My only concern is as I get older could the unevenness with grouting being lower affect footing. Otherwise totally choose the tile. Especially if you could use the beautiful wood for something else. Oh the difficult life decisions…

It is a tough call for the flooring. The wood is warmer on the feet, tiles colder. As you said, dropping things on tile makes them break more easily. The wood floor and the wood coutertops will compete unless they are the same wood and the same stain. The tiles looks very nice. I don't know if your kitchen is at the same level as the adjacent room but I do like a continuous floor in adjacent rooms. However if there is a level change, then it is ok to change floors. It sounds like you are leaning toward the tiles and I do have to say, they are lovely against the cabinet bases.
