I scrap all the aluminum cans from work. Used to be 2 cents a can. Now its about1.3 cents. But, they crush down to no space at all and the scrap yard is half mile away. Litterally free money. I make about $15 a year. Pays for my inspection every year. I love crushin the cans! Grandma always said "would you open your wallet and toss $15 in the trash? No. Then why throw away $15 worth of free stuff, ya big dummy?"Also, long live Fred Sanford, the greatest scrapper of all!!

Bahaha... see I like that philosophy. Many would say "$15 isn't worth my time", but what are you going to do with that time otherwise? Watch TV? Drink Beer? Might as well pay for your inspection!

Man things are wayyy different out your way! We drive over a scale out this way, dump our stuff in a pile, then go back to weigh on the scale again. If I take buckets of wire, aluminum, copper etc, then it’s weighed separately. Much cleaner out your way. I def hang on to whatever I can. We don’t have money either so gotta make do with what ya got! Awesome video!

Interesting... Any different in price? I think we get $0.12/Lb for rotors here
@jtmoffroad6 жыл бұрын
D&E In The Garage they break it out to weight per 100lbs or per lb depending on type of metal. Also depends on yard you go to. Place a half hour away is a bigger center and pays more but you gotta justfiy the drive out there. I never have enough scrap to take but makes sense for my buddy who takes his dump trailer there with scrap. But the place I go to right now pays 8.75 per 100lbs for cast iron and the price is always fluctuating

7 control arms, 4 leaf springs, 8 rotors, 4 coil springs, a track bar, 2 rear Axles, about 12 folding chairs, chicken wire and a coffee can of nails and scews = $80 🤣 Long Island NY
@DEInTheGarage6 жыл бұрын
That actually isnt bad considering most of that is light iron. better than having no cash and a pile of junk in the yard, right?
@ProjectDanH6 жыл бұрын
@@DEInTheGarage there was probably more crap in there too. A front bumper maybe... Either way it absolutely beats that crap in the yard.. especially since it's about to get buried by leaves!

Don't forget to factor in the fact that many of us are based where we will have to pay for the privilege of disposing of metal scrap. For me, it would certainly make sense going to a scrap yard next time. I'll get a little bit of cash in hand, but best of all, I won't have to pay for getting rid of the scrap. That's a big bonus !

Prices vary place to place. When we were getting $45 per ton in SF bay area my cousin in San Diego was getting $6.

I always save old pots and pans people throw away. They make excellent custom washers and most are nonmagnetic Stainless Steel or aluminum

@@DEInTheGarage hey I'm sure you know, but the price for scrap gold is really nice. Keep your eye out when you go to the junkyard. Things get left in cars all the time.

You might as well save it up and return it, if you don't someone else will grab it. I'm in N.Y. and prices are about the same. One piece of advice, DO NOT SAVE CHAIN LINK FENCING! Not worth the effort(ask me how I know lol)

Hahah... I can't imagine what a PITA it would be to store, handle, and transport enough chain link to get any kind of return..
