The most difficult thing to find these days is a good head unit that has both wireless CarPlay/AA AND a volume knob! This one fits that bill. I saw another review of this head unit where the reviewer used some electronic/diagnostic equipment to analyze the quality of its internals. The tests showed that the internal amplifier is total crap, with loads of distortion, but the pre-amp outputs showed zero distortion! So the bottom line was, this is actually a very good head unit, but get a good quality external amplifier to use with it if you want it to really sound good. Here's that other review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHbZg6l_or6MfrM

If this was available when I purchased my Pioneer 1500, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. I'm not afraid of installing this, just some minor messaging. Wireless Carplay saves $50-75 alone from buying a dongle. It's shallow, so easy to fit. All the outputs are fenomenal at this price point. If this can hold up over time, then these bigger names better watch out.

I just installed this today in my wife's car. It seems to be a bit buggy. I have changed the time 4 times and it keeps changing (not just reverting back to the previous time it came set to, but different times all over the map). Android Auto connected fast, then didn't. It took forever to get it to reconnect and I had to turn the car off and back on. Sometimes the home button works, sometimes the back button works. When it was trying to connect to android auto, I could not back out (the pull down would not come down). The sound quality was very good once setting some custom DSP settings. I will say, the manual is a joke. It looks nice but all it does is tell you what something is, not what it does or how to set anything. If you don't know your way around a radio or Android, this will be an issue for you. As an example, I have tried to set the time as I mentioned, and looking in the manual, it just says, Time and Date with an arrow to the menu. Radio feels nice, screen is nice, the volume knob feels solid. I am installing a reverse and front camera but haven't gotten the wires run yet so it remains to be seen how they work. I hope the buginess doesn't continue and I can figure out the time issue, or else I don't know if I can keep it. I went with it simply because it was the only one I could find that has a volume control, has android auto, has front and rear cameras inputs, and can sit flush in the dash. None of the major brands or second tier brands like Boss and Jensen have all of these features.

Just installed one of these in my mr2 spyder, it functions great!! Tge sound quality is surprisingly good and CarPlay is quick and wireless, only downs are the lack of install face trim / ring And you have to swipe down to get to the home button, took a little time to find my way around the functions ! Have to disable the gps speed monitor in settings! Otherwise you get a warning every time you exceed the speed limit lol Very impressive unit at this price !!

I bought a pioneer 8200 nex a few years ago for almost 800 dollars, it would only connect to my phone 50 percent of the time after updating to the newer software. And the radio reception was garbage compared to my other vehicles in the same areas that had stock radios.

USB file limit of 7000. I have 12000+ on mine, won't read anything beyond 7000 on the stock music app. BUT!! Using poweramp or foobar2000 it will read the entire usb stick. BUT!!! When you go to access the dsp/map it'll usually restart whatever song you're on. And no way to just start out on foobar/poweramp on startup. Absolute pain to get to settings if you want to adjust bass. Plus again, restarts the song many times when doing it Speaking of sound, its limited to 16bit/48khz and my rta plugged up to rcas proved it. Most people won't care about this, but Im' crazy. Basically have to make sure you have a Metra kit that has a removable trim piece, or else this aint gonna fit. Plus the shallow chassy is a huge problem unless you have bolts instead of screws. I love the bright screen, absolutely obliterates any of my pioneers as far as responsiveness. And the RCA output is pretty good. But this sucker just had to go back.

Are there file FOLDERS for the music? I have my music and my wife has hers. I don't want music loading up from the USB in any order every time I turn it on. Searching for my songs. My Chinese GPS has a music player and ignores folders, and the same random thousand songs load up and don't pick up where you left off. Also, if the only con is installation, then this looks good. My classic car is 25 years old, so any upgrade is good nowadays.

Mine will be here tomorrow. I'll let you know at what level it clips at and the voltage at that level for the one I get. I'll probably send it back but figured I'd give it a shot.

I can't find my volt meter to check RCA output, but using an Oscilloscope on the RCA outputs, I get no clipping at max volume with flat EQ. If I can find my voltage meter, I'll check the RCA amperage at full volume since I don't have any clipping at 40. I replaced an ATOTO double din with this, and while it's not a perfect fit but I don't have any noticeable gaps when the beauty ring is in place. I did have to dremel out a half circle for volume knob on my beauty ring but it was worth it. I was honestly expecting to try this out and not like it but so far I like it. I'll let you know more as I use it some more.
