It's not that black and white. Maddison is a natural No 10, I've watched him since he was around 12 years old. He's not really a midfielder who can be relied on for any type of defensive duties. He does his best work in the final 3rd of the pitch. Unfortunately for Maddison most teams do not play for a No 10, so they have to shoe horn him into a system. It leads some people to ask if Spurs can ever be solid with Maddison in a midfield 3.

@D1Snr I get what you mean but maddison hasn't been the problem spurs have really poor midfielders behind him and he's having to drop back and it drops his game when he gets a better 2 behind him you'll see him flourish but of course he does need to improve defensively

Maddison is not overrated. His touches and close control are close to Spanish standard. He is quite silky and tekky on the ball. Capable to do skill moves and play through passes. The only downside is that he doesn’t have experience playing in a modern positional play system with complex tactics, and he doesn’t have experience playing tiki taka football like Palmer or Foden. Palmer and Foden are so Spanish on the ball. Skills, flair, technicality and tactical intelligence all combined in a player.

Another huge thing is what their role will be. Neither player will start, so who will make a bigger impact playing for 30 minutes? And when you think about that maddison can pull out magic more consistently than elliot. Not putting elliot down as well he is an amazing talent and could develop to a great player :)

It doesnt make maddison any worse of a player because Klopp chose not so sign him. There is so much more to transfers than how simple Rory is painting it out to be. of course this is taking it to an extreme, but its the same logica as saying "Arsenal are chosing to go for Ivan Toney in the Summer instead of Mbappe even though they are both available. That must mean Arteta thinks Toney is Better than Mbappe". Its such as stupid argument.
