Desean Gibir My introduction to politics was the obvious lie about WMDs. So I had a poor opinion of the Labour Party. I completely lost interest in it after the revelation of the "Ed Stone" during the 2015 General Election campaign. Both Milliband and Cameron were rubbish. I didn't even bother learning about the election result. I didn't like either of the frontrunners. They were the same. So I had no idea Labour had a Leadership Election. I noticed really negative news headline after headline about a 'Jeremy Corbyn' in 2016. I wondered who this disgusting person was. Looked into he stories about him. Horrible. Looked into his history - completely different to what the news was reporting and exactly the type of politician I wanted. But I'd already been betrayed a Blair and disappointed by Brown and Milliband. Paid attention to Corbyn and the headlines for the next few months to see if he was the real thing. He is. The entire media is coordinated in their three-year smear against Corbyn. And considering many people don't investigate stories in the media themselves, I'm not surprised there are still many that believe the mainstream headlines. All that's left to do is question them on the mainstream narratives.

What Corbyn has tried to offer, and what voters have increasingly shown themselves in agreement with, is a form of social democracy which in most respects was the norm from 1945 until the advent of Thatcherism. That this mild expression of reformist goals is completely unacceptable to Britain's rulers ought to show us where we've arrived in our neoliberal journey. As we ask ourselves, why does Israel stand at the center of this campaign against Corbyn and the Left, we should keep in mind events in that country and Israel's importance to the American Right and the national security state. As we advance ever deeper into the dystopic scenario scripted by neoliberalism, our rulers have come to understand that the previous form of representative government may not serve the needs of this new system. And the Zionist project increasingly provides what they believe is a viable, even necessary model for social control, with the construction of interdicting walls, mass campaigns against immigrants, hatred of Muslims, militarisation of policing- American cops are now Israeli-trained- resegregation on the basis of race and poverty (and what is gentrification, after all, but a spatial war on those people akin to Israel's colonisation projects), heavily controlled and censored media, great concentrations of wealth, fascist populism, constant war or the threat of war as a means of maintaining discipline and profits. All of those features are core values and practices in Israel, and they are now making their appearance at the highest level in numerous countries typically described as "democratic". For these reasons, governments around the world are adopting Israeli methods and concomitant colonial attitudes towards minorities and others regarded as unfit to enjoy the liberties guaranteed by an enlightened state. Even Israel's theft of resources such as natural gas and water have their corollary in the global drive to secure these crucial elements on behalf of corporations and aggressive North American and European states. Israel stands at the symbolic center of the struggle to maintain and expand the neoliberal order because it offers a fully worked-out model for successful authoritarian rule while preserving the facade of democracy, a model which unlike the royal system of Saudi Arabia for instance, is adaptable to Western practices and elite opinions. And as more people on the community level reject that model, forces at the top, including media, can be expected to reach for more strident forms of denunciation and repression in order to thwart what they regard as illegitimate demands for social justice and political representation. So this "antisemitism" campaign IS about Israel. But we have to ask ourselves, what is it about Israel that confers this unique, sacrosanct status? The official response points to the mass murder of Europe's Jews in the 1940s. But Israel is valued and valuable for reasons quite unrelated to the Holocaust. It performs a role today, one both symbolic and practical, in the global crackdown on freedom.
@t8146 жыл бұрын
Tom Hall What people seem to forget or don't know is that European Jews started legally migrating to Palestine in the late 19th century. Over half a century before the Holocaust. The British military occupation of Palestine where Palestinians had their guns confiscated, subject to harassment and humiliating checkpoints and restriction in movement in their own country was opposed by British Jews who took to streets to protest against the government. While Palestinians protested in Palestine. Balfour's Declaration at the request of Lord Rothchild, the then head of the Zionist Federation, was made in 1917 and opposed by the only Jewish politician in Parliament at that time. This was decades before WWII (1939-1945). In 1948, the British military gave their military weapons and posts to the Israelis at night and left the country. The next morning, Palestinians were killed were expelled from their homes. The Nakba. Over century ago, Jews weren't brainwashed with Zionist lies about Palestinians being some sort of enemy. Today majority of Israeli Jews support, cheer and engage in the terrorism and murder of Palestinians. While Jews speaking out to protect Palestinian civilians' rights, and voices like Jeremy Corbyn, are either suppressed or their reputation smeared. The coordination across the mainstream media, regardless of national borders, is shocking.

It is my considered belief that the conflation of the Netanyahu government with the entirety of the state of Israel is not only problematic in it's coherency, but dangerously misguided. Standing up for the rights of Jewish people, and for the right of the state of Israel to exist, does not meaning having to condone the current government's horrendously brutal policies. Arch-Conservatives within Israel, and Neocons throughout the world have long sought, and mostly succeeded, with conflating Likud, and their ultra-conservative, racist brethren with the existence of Israel, and to have the neoliberal forces in the UK and the US aiding in this effort is yet one more piece of proof of their moral bankruptcy, and dangerous thirst for power.
@darinsingleton35536 жыл бұрын
Eliseville, While it is indisputable that there are many Israelis who hold the horrendous beliefs you assert; it is also true that there are many who do not, and who actively support Palestinians, in hopes of engaging in a fruitful and peaceful coexistence. The pain and frustration in your assertions is evident, and must be honestly acknowledged. Nevertheless, to summarily exclude those who seek a peaceful resolution, and to make dismissive declarations which might feel momentarily gratifying, does little to move forward on serious, meaningful participation towards ending cyclical enmity. Simplistic binaries and blanket condemnations are the tools of demagogues and fanatics, which produce great heat, but little light. I do not try to suggest that there are easy solutions, or that there is no place for righteous anger. And I admit that things will most likely continue down a very dark road for the near future. But, ceaseless bloodshed is not a viable answer. The future depends on critical thinking as well as passion; and a kind of courage that ultimately must move beyond fury. Zero-sum attitudes, and indiscriminate vilification plays into the hands of those who would keep the current bloody status quo to preserve their power and prestige. You can choose to oblige them, and proceed with sweeping denunciations, or you can oppose their schemes by building. It will not be guaranteed of success; and it would be bone-crushingly grueling and demanding, with many defeats along the way. I truly wish I could see a less difficult road ahead. But, you are wise enough to know that is not to be the case. But, you also seem wise enough to know that it, ultimately, will be the only real, true answer.

I think you'll find that has everything to do with state influence. I refer you to my original post, but you are, again, making my point. Thanks.
@vestibulate6 жыл бұрын
Jimbo Jones It's perfectly legitimate to name and criticise state ideology. And in this case, its name happens to be Zionism. Incidentally, the critics are not the ones who keep harping on the supposed Jewish identity of the Israeli state. It's in the country's laws and national institutions. As a matter of fact, Israeli nationality doesn't exist as a legal category there. A citizen's passport and other forms of identification list under "Nationality", Jewish or Other. It's Zionist ideology and the Zionist lobby that conflates Israel with Judaism, as does the state itself- tirelessly and stridently. So don't misdirect our attention. We're being beaten over the head with accusations of racism because we challenge the racism of Israel, and now we're being told to find a separate vocabulary and not use the very words our opponents employ to describe themselves. Talk about Apartheid.

Corbyn's Labour Party gained the most seats and gained overall in the 2018 Local Election. The right wing party in government lost seats overall. Corbyn's Labour Party now has the biggest party membership in the whole of Europe at nearly a million. The right wing party in government's party membership has dwindled so much, it no longer publishes this data. The last time it was published, the number was around third party figures. However, the members themselves tend be multimillionaires so funding isn't an issue.
