Good to see Kurt Loder and John Lydon getting on well again, some of the best interviews on MTV during the 1988-92 era were with Kurt with John on. A Brilliant era, (perhaps that because I was in high school) 😂 however, we still had rock music (in what ever genre you liked) and it still actually meant something, especially with most bands of the “alternative” genre trying to appropriate change for the better on this apparently damned to fail planet. I thought every band from the Beatles to the Beastie Boys kinda spelled out the same message, at different volumes, with different tempos, from different neighborhoods and used different slang perhaps, but the message was all the same, and in learning that, you learn more about other people. Unfortunately, it looks like only a few of us meant it.

He’s always been a personal inspiration for me. I grew up during the whole Nirvana/teenage suicide pop-culture of death nonsense in the early to mid-’90s. And Lydon definitely prevented me from falling into that corny, silly trend of self-pity and self-destruction. Thanks to him, I really hated that whole pre-fabbed celebratory culture of drugs and depression that so many of my friends fell for. It actually killed a few of them, sadly. Being easily impressionable is inescapable when you are young. You’re going to fall for something, surely. But thankfully there are good fellas like Lydon to call bullshit. He’s one of a kind, an all-around authentic fella. Not many like him. God bless you, John.

I guess because I've been so interested in the guy, that I've watched a shit-load of his interviews, and he's constantly flip-flopping on issues. He just speaks with such conviction that you want to believe him. He would make a dangerous politician. Now having reached senior citizen status and nobly caring for a very sick spouse he's been with for decades, he may not have mellowed exactly, but he's clearly more interested in demonstrating his high level of intelligence and articulating his thoughts in a way that doesn't send reasonable well intentioned people who could well be sympathetic to his ideas from scurrying toward the door to escape his prior obnoxious and toxic manner of image making. I know, I was one of those people - loved the Sex Pistols music and his lyrics and his powerful almost frightening way of putting them over, but couldn't watch him interacting with media in any form without wanting to put a loop around his neck and drag him off the stage. Now I am entranced by his intelligence and a sort of charming swagger in place of the obnoxious provocateur that he once presented as. I've seen a few clips where the Rotten guy still escapes containment, but I have come to admire him all the way around now that we are both growing old. I am shocked and appalled that he is or was for a time, a Trump supporter. The reasoning he presented that I saw was thoughtless and lazy thinking - basically the simplistic drivel that we just can't ever trust politicians anymore without slightly considering the disgraceful alternative that was offered to U.S. voters. But we can hand the reigns of power over to and trust a would be narcissist billionaire born with the silver spoons festooned from every orifice who has lived to scam working class people both in his business ventures and from his political stage.
