My problem with Matrix Resurrections and - if true - Joker 2 is that as a filmmaker, if you agree to make a film, then you also have an obligation to the audience. And audiences are sick and tired of seeing 'creatives' using TV shows, films, books, comics, games, whatever to rant about x, y, or z. If you want to sabotage a project for personal reasons, then you're not the person who needs to bring that project to life - let someone else do it, and protest in a different way that doesn't poop on the existing fans, too. Either way, yeah - I hope it does poorly at the box office, and people need to stop paying to see this garbage.

Very based theory. This whole scenario around Folie a Deux reminds me of this 1976 film called Network (Which Todd also used as inspiration for the first Joker). The MC Howard Beale starts off by going absolute nuts on Television with extremely relatable rants that the public starts getting behind but then eventually *spoiler alert* . . . . . . . . . . . . the parent company of his TV network suddenly clamps down on him and sways Howard towards their cause resulting in his latest rants being extremely depressing and demoralizing (Exactly like Joker 2 which I found to be extremely depressing to watch). Ultimately resulting in the TV network literally assassinating Howard on live TV (Kinda similar to how Todd just announced that he's done with DC after burning a big bridge with them). Quite ironic

It undoes the character and any love for him so that movie does not inspire anyone. There will be no more movies where a talking head get what he freaking deserves. They could have made any sequel to continue the character or even change him to be more like the comic. That was the directive by the studio undo the character so if there was to be a joke on the studio, it was AFTER that mandate was made, making it a musical could be part of that. But the part they will never tell us is that the deconstruction of the character is the reason this movie was made. To make it hated by those who watch it could be the inside joke.

This is the first I'm hearing there was a sequel, and I went to see the first in theatres 4 times. I don't often go to the theatre, so the movie struck deep with me. By the sounds of it, you're absolutely right, or maybe we've all been trolled. I can't speak for others, but when I soul search I've decided I liked Phoenix' Joker character himself for a variety of reasons. In his own weird way he stood his ground and also redeemed himself - he was human. There's also something to be said for a person who gets broken by society and instead of imploding and destroying themselves, they push that energy back outward at society's idols and institutions. That didn't come across to me as incel at all - an incel shoots innocent people after having lost all of humanity. Joker had humanity.

@67maxfield3 ай бұрын
@@DarranKern lol. well, yeah, those two things could actually be examples of said 'heart and soul'. the heart and soul being that they got batman/bruce/gotham so right. for me atleast. and i love batman comics, from old to new. so like the journaling is a great new spin on what makes bruce bruce. it highlights his obsession and how he lives in his own little world. it also serves as a way for him to narrate, which gives off a great detective/noir atmosphere, which is of course another core tenet of batman. i know it adds to the whole 'emo' gripe a lot of people had, but i actually love emo batman. at least in the context of a young version, still driven mostly by anger, revenge, etc. young batman is the quintessential melancholic loner. i'm also pretty sure him journaling has been done before in the comics, so. in any case, its a perfect fit and feels right. the bomb to the face thing also felt very right for me. again, he's obsessed af. not only with being batman/solving crime in general, but also now obsessed with getting to the bottom of this specific case. he'll stop at nothing, and he wants to squeeze every last bit of info out of colson that he can. and with that, he's also not even really paying attention to the timer. it really captures that sense of obsession for me. like when you can't let something go no matter what. he also wants to save colson, and can only do so if colson gives the name. but ultimately, i dont think its logical, like in the movie universe itself/with the character. the obsession isn't logical. i also feel theres an empathy there too. like at a certain point, bruce knows its too late/he cant save him, so hes almost willing to die with him. which fits this bruce also, as he conveys often, even verbally, that hes basically got a death wish. but yeah. he sees colson refusing to jeopardize his family, and i think it registers deeply with bruce, and he wont leave him. something like that. i know its like a split second thing, and some of this is reading too deep. but i'm mainly making the point that it all works effortlessly for who batman is to me, on as many levels as i can conjure up. so yeah, somea thats def just my head cannon. but also, just tackin this on, he does shield his face at the last second lol. so theres that. edit: very lastly, how can you not love the dynamics of that scene?! lol. watching it again. you got the riddler maniacally counting down. and the desperate back and forth of batman and colson's whispery shouts. its so cool and noir feeling to me. "people are watching." "what people!?" "so much bigger than you could ever imagine, its the whole system!" then that countdown, which does catch bruce up to speed, but he doesn't seem to snap back to reality until the last second. so again, i think my above logic can be inserted throughout that scene. specifically during the above exchange. and then the shot of colson saying "god have mercy on me", during which bruce is just seemingly staring at him. so yeah, i think he's captivated by the implications of what colson has just shared, dying to know more, and perhaps as i also said, maybe empathizing with him.

@@67maxfield most of what I truly despise about ‘22 is the writing. Its such a hot mess of conflicting ideas, about six subplots, a particularly snippy catwoman, the cops just basically doing 75% of the work and waffling rapidly between being friends and enemies with batman, the riddler incel cult plotline coming basically out of nowhere just to have a setpiece about 45 minutes after the main plot was already over. So much dorky dialogue that should have been edited out to give riddler plot and Alfred subplot more time to breathe. I could EASILY cut Batman ‘22 into a 1hour 55 minutes film that’s actually coherent, instead of a three hour homunculus of crap. Its got Colin Ferrel, Robert Pattinson, Jeremy Irons, John Turturro, and Paul Dano and they STILL fucked it up.

I don't buy that. Reason being, whomever directed the Joker sequel (I don't recall his name at the moment) could have easily just walked. He didn't because Warner Bros likely gave him significantly more money to do it. Also don't necessarily agree with your point about The Matrix Reloaded because that implies that it's a bad movie. It isn't. Sure, it's up its own arse but so was the original but the pretentiousness was less noticeable because of all the new visual effects on display.

@@screenPhiles i meant to say “Ressurections” every time I said revolutions lol. And its not a knock on Reloaded to say it probably shouldn’t have been made. Matrix 1 is a self contained movie, really
@screenPhiles3 ай бұрын
@@DarranKern While I agree 'Resurrections' isn't great I suspect it's not for the same reasons that you might. An important thing 'Resurrections' needed to do, which it didn't, was recast Keanu Reeves (casting him was a sure sign the filmmaker was looking to tread the same old ground) and maybe, just maybe show him if he happened to be in front of a mirror (because that aspect was one of the more interesting things about the movie). But to be fair that movie also was put on HBOMax concurrently with a theatrical run, which likely cost millions in lost profit - After all, why go to the theater when it's literally streaming at the same time. (and in fact Village Roadshow Pictures sued Warner Bros. exactly for that reason though I don't know how that suit fared). Another thing about that movie is that it apparently cost $190 million to produce, which leads to the question who pocketed the brunt of that money because it definitely wasn't on screen. Remember the return of the Merovingian? Remember the fight choreography? I'm not saying that I could do better it was a far cry from the prior movies in the series. As far as the message goes, I don't think Warner Bros cared. Sure, it was to an extent anti-corporate and played with the idea that they were only doing it because the higher-ups wanted a sequel but that doesn't matter because it's paying lip service to defiance, to anti-corporatism. And besides, the 'higher-ups' ALWAYS want a sequel to a successful property. Hardly an earth-shattering revelation these days. If Lana Wachowski really wanted to show corporate what's what she could/would have walked. Instead she just played their game and whinged a little. Hardly the stuff revolutions are made of.
