My favourite anecdote told by Judit herself in a Hungarian radio or tv interview, can't remember anymore. Judit and her husband were on the way somewhere in the countryside Hungary, they took the train. On the main railway station of Budapest (Keleti Pu.) there were these hustlers who played chess for money. Her husband started to play a game with one of them and after a couple of moves he said to the hustler: Listen I got some business to do, but here is my wife she knows the rules and she can play a bit, let her finish this game. The hustler said OK. After a couple of moves the hustler asks Judit whether she plays chess often. After yet a couple of moves the hustler scratches his head saying you must be playing chess at a club or something. So eventually Judit crushed him but of course did not take the money, instead introduced herself to the old man and they just shook hands.

Some years ago journalists tried to trick her. They invited her to a restaurant, and prior to the meeting they'd placed her chair so as to look to the street, through the entry door. At a time during the conversation, a kind of advertising car slowly went by in the street, loudly enough to draw attention for some seconds: on the side of it there was painted a position from a chessgame, with many pieces still on board. Judit had a glimpse of it for no more than 2-3 seconds. Yet, after this planned intermezzo she was able to name all the pieces and their locations without any error.

It funny, the most important thing I've learned from watching masters+ play is that I need to look at the parts of the board I don't think I should be looking at. The front line is never where the war is truly fought, I suppose.

I'm just a casual, but, at 6:34, i don't understand why the best move wouldn't be moving the white queen from h2 to h8, forcing the black king to catch it, and then the white rook would checkmate the black king
@wicked59993 жыл бұрын
You're in check, but if you weren't then Qh8 would just be checkmate, the king can't capture the queen

My first thought was N to G5 but that bishop/queen line scared me a bit.

You just read my mind. 1st I thought about capturing the bishop, then thought as this is a pause the vdo moment then it can't be this simple. So moving the king would be the right thing to do 😭.

At the last pause, would blocking with knight D2 not also work instead of capturing the bishop?

Found an answer?
@bratan_archer3 жыл бұрын
@@miguelinux6 I am not sure but I think it would work pretty much the same. If he captures knight, you capture with king, he can check you with queen but you can still block with pawn the same way as shown.
@miguelinux63 жыл бұрын
@@bratan_archer uhmmmm droidfish seems to disagree strongly if bishop then captures on d2. Oh well!
@bratan_archer3 жыл бұрын
@@miguelinux6 yeah it seems natural that bishop then captures D2, but after recapture with king, the rest should play out same as in the video, no?
@miguelinux63 жыл бұрын
@@bratan_archer apparently the King's escape through f6 is key to the attack, again according to the engine

bishop checking on h7 to bring the K to h8 - then knowing exactly how you'll open the h file, is just dirty stuff

at 4:53 couldnt we move queen to h2? wouldnt that been the same?

Bishop would take the pawn on g4. Even though the white knight would take the bishop, the king could escape.

Nice game but for the question in the thumbnail the answer is simply- NO not even close i dont mean to say that she is not talented after all she is the greatest woman chess player ever but player like Mikhail Tal Ian Nepomniatchi even Danil Dubov are in a level of their own.
