Modern housing stock look awful ,cheap materials , maximum profit. In twenty years these estates will be shunned ,as state issued slums . The private building firms will be popping the corks as Christmas has come early .

After WW2, thousands of pre fabricated houses were built. The labour government promised "homes for heroes". They are still standing. Build older person bungalows.. Would release houses for families.. My kids work for the NHS, they cannot get on the housing ladder.. We need homes..

100% for smaller bungalows - My parents (in their late 80s) are still in a three bed detached house because even smaller bungalows are more expensive.

One of the main reasons why it is difficult for the young people of today to "get on the housing ladder" is that builders don't want to build affordable houses. They can build an executive house for marginally more than an affordable house and get 5 times the return for it. The only solution to this is for government to build social housing.

I already saw that CNN clip, and while watching it, I was just thinking..... this does not pass my smell test' or to put it another way my spider senses were tingling. Then, listening to these guys, I just thought that they have been in the established news business for so long that maybe they are used to seeing these staged news reels. That's my thought.
