I’m a 57 year old post menopausal woman. I started doing Keto a year ago to lose weight. Low and behold, five months in I was able to wean myself off antidepressants which I had been on for 16 years. I am at my ideal weight and not taking any medications. The only thing I’m still struggling with is insomnia. This video was very interesting because even though I’ve been post menopausal for four years, I still get hot flashes. So I’m wondering if my hormones are off. I’m going to look into the testing you recommend.

A doctor pretending that all a menopausal woman needs to worry about is estrogen is just dumb. Women are much more complicated than that. The diet they eat matters very much, as does optimizing All their hormones...

So I don’t and after 9 months I don’t miss them

Thank you so much for this video! I’m 54, been in menopause for 4 years now. I’m sure i had adrenal fatigue for one... stressful job and taking care of everyone else. I’ve always worked out and exercise almost every day in some fashion. Weight lifting (former body builder), walking, etc. ~ as I grew closer to menopause I started to steadily gain weight. Which was frustrating... how can this be happening. ~ this started me on my journey around age 48 to figure out what is going on. Because the doctors/GYN will tell you exercise more and eat less. And they want to put you on depression medication. I said no thanks, realized I was on my own to figure this out. I have been pouring through research for years now. Realized I’m insulin resistant now, my hormones are out of balance and I discovered keto about 3 years ago. But no one knew what it was. I had to pioneer my way through it all by myself. My family and friends thought I was crazy. I started slowly with eliminating wheat first and so on. I started feeling better right away. ~ now I toggle back and forth between low carb and keto. ~ I feel absolutely fantastic and have tons of energy, but I can’t loose weight unless i’m strickly keto. ~ Dr. Berry, thank you so much for doing this!!!.... you’re helping so many people. 💕 And I love your down to earth charming no BS way of getting your info out. Thank you. 😊😘😘

@@angelagrant2943 Happy to chat if you need an ear. Also, a great website, called Hystersisters, I used a lot when I went through it, provided a lot of solid advice. Mine was radical and they took absolutely everything. I had to much endometriosis that the doctor said when he took it all out, it looked like an alien. The endometrial and andometrial tissue was deeply imbedded in the fat pad (all humans have an abdominal fat pad, no matter how skinny) they they had to dig and dig to get it out. My pain was at an 11 and they practically overdosed me on pain meds because there was no way to control pain they had to do so much cutting. Also, my take, if your doctor tells you, you don't need progesterone, I'd get another opinion. I've been doing bio HRT for 10 years and progesterone is a big part and is vital for sleep.

Thanks, Dr. Berry very informative. Appreciate you so much! I am 60 years old and had breast cancer in 2011 I am on Tamoxifen for another 3 years. Then tamoxifen being the culprit I had a dvt, split and go into both of my lungs. Now I am taking warfarin. I want to get off of these things in the worst way as cancer has caused me a lot of illnesses not to mention sepsis and cellulitis. I have been on keto for 5 1/2 weeks have lost 30 pounds. Yay.. still feeling somewhat fatigued. I wish like the rest of your KZbin following that you were in our area or we could clone you!

Sorry in advance I fear this may be a novel long.... Dr. Berry I bought your book "LMDTM" and read it in two days. I also reviewed it on Amazon... I absolutely love your straight to the point, no nonsense sarcastic style. Alright now that my nose is slightly discolored, I had a question with an explanation. I am in my mid 30's so still hopefully a ways away from menopause but I am type 2 Diabetic. I came across a Keto video where a man was interviewing a Dr. Mindy Pelz. about Keto and Hormones. This woman's advice (she has been on Keto for 4 or 5 years mind you) was actually to come off of Keto every month the week before your menstrual cycle and ingest white potatoes, tropical fruit, beans and squash to up your progesterone levels. :::Slow blink, blank stare, slow blink::: :::Crickets::: Is there any good advice or to point me in the right direction of advice that won't send me into diabetic coma? I need reliable "Homework" material for being a woman on Keto in regard to hormone levels. In the search for a new Dr. that is Keto friendly, in my area, it is soooo frustrating. I am interested to hear your thoughts. Thank you. :o)

I will be 55 in July I have been keto for almost a yr! Although I have only lost 20 lbs, my blood work is awesome, I have other issues, I will be doing a sleep study too which I believe is a big reason why I am not losing as fast, but this has been an easy, way of eating, has helped with joint issues too. I also intermittent and long term fast. It all works together for me anyway. Every person and female is different and depends if you are insulin resistance or how much you are IR too among other things. thanks Dr Berry!! You put out good stuff!! keep up the good work!!

I’ve been doing the Keto lifestyle for 10 months. I have met my weight goal and brought my cholesterol in order. I noticed a direct correlation between my hot flashes eating wheat. My son also reversed a diagnosis of being insulin resistance and lost 25 lbs. in three months. My husband has lost 30 lbs. after admitting he wasn’t following the plan at first and got serious the last few months.

I can’t thank you enough for addressing this issue . My Menapause began at age 61 . GYN told me he wouldn’t test for it as the test would only tell him what he already knew . After much protest and literally begging he agreed to the test . The next day he called to tell me what I already knew . My body had been hijacked and didn’t recognize myself. He prescribed Estradiol and did no other test . This information will help me to bring awareness to the doctors who have physic abilities- Lol . Thanks Dr Berry, you’ve helped me so much so many times !

Sounds like so much fun being a woman, I'm finished with all that a while back now before I found out about Keto and was treated with hormones (I have a very hyperthyroid as well) and suffered terrible hot flashes day and night. I was on hormones for six weeks and had a bad migraine for all those weeks from day one till I quit them cold turkey, migraine stopped at once. Love your videos Dr. Berry, very informative especially since I'm just learning the keto diet, been on it for a few weeks, I look a bit thinner but not sure if I'm fat adapted yet. I guess it'll take time since I'm not 50 anymore.

This couldn't have been more timely for me. But, now I feel like I need more help. I started Keto 1/1 and have only lost about 10 pounds and most of that was in the first week. The weight just isn't coming off like it used to when I adapted to a low carb lifestyle when I was younger. I noticed in October or November that I was really putting on belly fat. Around that time, the hot flashes and night sweats started. I saw my GYN in December and mentioned it all to her and she literally laughed it off and said something like "Yep, that's life." This past month, I have been completely miserable emotionally and physically and started doing research. O finally figured out that I am somewhere in menopause or peri-menopause or whatever (It is so hard to understand the stages, where I am and how long it all lasts) and that I have probably been "in" this for about 3-4 years based on numerous issues I've been having that are all included in the symptoms of menopause. I messaged my OB/GYN last week with all of the issues and asked for help managing the symptoms of menopause. She messaged me back and said she thinks I just have "significant depression" and I need to see someone for that. Well, I do after having my symptoms dismissed like that. I am due to visit my PCP in a week or so for bloodwork. Can you tell me what I need to ask for as far as getting the hormones tested? But more importantly, how do I get Keto to work for me so I can actually lose weight? I am frustrated. Help! Thank you for this video. I'm heading to Patreon right now....

Laura Campbell Laura, I had doctors tell me the same thing... about being depressed. It wasn’t until I found the Hotze clinic in Houston that I was listened to and went on bioidentical hormones. What a difference it made. FYI, Hotze is expensive and they do not file the insurance. You have to file. They also do not accept Medicare.

My doctor who recently retired told me when I asked her for some HRT (due to issues with mental focus and memory lapses - common symptoms of menopause) that taking estrogen alone could put me at increased risk for certain cancers, so she also prescribed progesterone. Nothing was ever said about testosterone, which I think both myself and my husband need. I also find it odd that even doctors refer to perimenopause (or pre-menopause) as menopause which technically refers to the time after menses (periods) have ceased. I am now in the awkward position of having to find a new and very knowledgeable female GP when there is a severe shortage of doctors here. 😢

55 yrs old here, and started keto on Feb 15th . I have been pre menopausal for about 5 or 6 years .No major symptoms except really heavy periods for the past year, and bad mood swings I have lost close to 80 lbs in 4 months eating keto and I am down 3 whole sizes . I still have mood swings once in a while but havent had a period in 3 months( whoo hoo lol) . All I know is I feel 100% better since I started eating keto and losing weight . I still have at least 100 lbs to lose , but I know I can do it now with ease. Even if the weight loss slows down, I am very happy with this way of eating

Thanks to our wonderful healthcare system I am unable to afford health insurance at all. I am also unable to get my disability that is supposedly owed to me for the four discs that went out on my back so I cannot afford the hormone tests. That’s where KETO mostly carnivore comes in to save my life. I have so much heinous pain it was near suicidal until I started eating barely any carbs and taking vitamin D. I could then at least get a shower properly and dress myself. My brother paid for laminectomy for 2 discs in my thoracic which has made my life bearable mixed with the inflammation reducing Keto and it also helps hormonal issues which tripled my pain at times. Carnivore is my ultimate goal because low carb WORKS.

Hit menopause... weight kept creeping up.... no matter what I tried, it continued to creep up. The ONLY thing that brought me back to normal was the ketogenic diet. And, too, I feel SO much better.... and yes, I am taking estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. But those hormones alone did not help with the weight loss like the keto diet did! Supplements are helping too..... Thank you, Dr. Berry... for your knowledge and for sharing it!

Leslie Kenton was saying this 30 years ago. She was so ahead of her time. I'm reading her book Passage to Power right now and it's very good. I'm keto and IFing for 36 hours once a week and I don't seem to have any symptoms apart from heavy periods so I started taking a progesterone pill and it has worked, but I worry that the fake progesterone will be picked up by the progesterone receptors, so my body won't make any real progesterone. I think the Keto diet is good but should I try to come off the progesterone pill? Not just coast on it. I'm 50.

I've lost 12 pounds (I was a "good" body weight to start, so 12 pounds is a lot for me!), I have way more energy, I have no more brain fog and even my skin is super soft (seriously, REALLY soft!). One thing that has happened though, is I got my period again for the first time in over a year. I have been menopausal for over a year now so this was quite a shock. I'm 64 and have been on BHRT for 20 years. I went on it because I was miserable and couldn't put 2 thoughts together. I was still working and it was so embarrassing. If someone asked me a question it would bring on a hot flash and my brain would go to mush. Anyway, the BHRT worked but I went off it several months ago because I just thought I should plus it's expensive. My insurance would pay for the sythetic stuff but not the bioidentical. I'm now back to where I was 20 years ago. Can't sleep and have 10 to 15 hot flashes a night. It's so weird, my body knows one is coming because I will pop awake and then here it comes! It takes me a while to get back to sleep and then guess what??? Here comes another one. Just know if you start any HRT you have to keep taking it the rest of your life or go through regualr menapause. HRT doesn't "get you through it" it delays it. If you stop, you'll get all your symptoms back. I would like to see a video on if you start HRT is it ok to stay on it till you die.
