Consider a Walker Bay for a dinghy. They have some great options with a center console that weighs less than 500 pounds. It will be much easier to handle, especially when you push the arm over the side of the boat.

I was stationed at NAS Key West for almost 9 years of my 20+ year Naval Career. Just about everything is "optional" there. On boats, it seems "tradition" has it that once the boat clears into the Harbor, in the minimum, off comes the Lady's tops. Once close to the 2 islands in the harbor, everything else is shed. If you have not been in Key West around Halloween, you are missing some top-notch entertainment....Also known as "Fantasy Fest". It is a place where an "open mind" (very open) is required as you will see anything from tame to absolute (pick a number of X's) rated out in the open on Duval.

I found out I am NOT a nudist but a Naturist. Naturists, as they like to be called, are usually open-minded people that are honest, tolerant and also accepting. They tend to be friendly and ready for social interaction. So don’t get scared if people are approaching you for conversations at a nude beach. They don’t discriminate and thereby live with the motto that we’re all the same, no matter how different we may look. If you attend a clothing-optional place and decide to take your clothes off, you will instantly start liking your body and accepting yourself with all the flaws you might have

Good vid, as always a fan of the navigational information. Couple of quick questions. 1) On an earlier cruise you anchored off the north west side of Key Biscayne (I won't mention what happened there, darn phone calls!!), and of course this time you were just outside No Name Harbor (NNH). Pros and Cons of each spot? 2) When you departed your anchorage just outside NNH, did you just parallel Key Biscayne (I think it's referred to as the (unmarked) Florida Channel) and join up to the Biscayne Channel? My tracks to and from NNH start/return to the AICW around mm 1095 - I'm chicken of unmarked channels I guess :) ... so my entrance/exit from the AICW to Hawk Channel is the Biscayne Channel.. 3) Key Biscayne to Marathon. I know on earlier cruises you did a midway stop at Rodriguez Key - were you just trying to cut a day out of the transit this time. Seem like a 100nm+ day is a bit long. FYI - Key West Naval Air Station not a Chair Force Base.
@tryingnottosink91074 жыл бұрын
We liked anchoring outside No-name Harbor much better. No worries about grounding and it is easier to get to. The only downside is fishing boats speeding past. We were leary of going down an unmarked channel as well, which is why we anchored at the other spot twice before. However, we read about other people taking the channel and anchoring outside the harbor so we gave it a shot. In a video to be published next week, we anchor there again on our way back from Key West. Rodriguez Key offered us a nice spot to anchor when we did not want to have such a long cruise. Plus, it is reasonably close to Alligator Reef. The video we are posting this week will show us stopping at both places again. Thanks for the correction about the Naval Base.

It looks like you found some more places to have a good time. They are getting harder to find. I don't think the Whaler is the problem, the davit is not well sized to the Whaler. Looks like they bought a great dingy and cheaped out on the davit to handle it. Happy sailing.

I like your videos thanks and am working my way haphazardly through them. If I could work out how to start at your first and see them sequentially my progress may not be so haphazard but I'm happy to see them as I find them. If you haven't yet changed your tender, have you considered altering how your davit operates. You appear to have to rotate it by hand. Have you thought about having its rotation motorized? That may fix your concern and allow you to keep the tender that you otherwise like. Keep avoiding sinking. All the best from the Land Down Under.

If it's your own boat, it's always clothing optionnal, because it's a private place and nobody can forbid you to be naked. On the beaches, it depends on the countries. Having not addressed the initial question: Is Key West clothing op? I spent Apr 73-Aug-73 in the Navy Base learning how to find Putin Subs after being drafted. 5 Months in Paradise, on the Gov tab. Tough Job,, get my drift? Yes, I saw many young women nude in public,, no one gave a flying F. Smoking pot next to a Cop, and yes no one gave notice of any kind. As a 20 year old, dodging after being drafted,, I realized that I had gone to Heaven. Wow what a memory. Key West is nothing now as it was then. Peace, oz What was my name? Petty Officer 4 Osborne. Trying Not To Sink , one other tip using the davit if you still have the whaler, my cable at times would go over itself, it would lead to some pretty scary jumps when loaded going down. replace the cable if you haven't and online there is a product called hilco lube aerosol made by Hill manufacturer. keep your cables lubed with that, it lasts a long time keep the new and soft and is good to have on board. expensive but worth it . I sprayed all my motors and electrical equipment best water displacement made. good luck cruising.

What they were checking for was the fact that you had a ground from your Alternating Current system, then they checked theirs.. If something shorts to ground on the boat, then they know that electricity will follow that path of least resistance and it will flow through their system into the ground rods. You don't want to have any stray electricity flowing into the water, because like you already said it would pose a risk to human life, and anodes. This won't help with stray DC gound issues from other boats though. That's a separate discussion, although those just eat anodes and aren't a threat to human life.
@tryingnottosink91074 жыл бұрын
It was the first time we saw a marina go through the trouble. We have a galvanic isolator onboard as well.
@Gmtail4 жыл бұрын
Trying Not To Sink I’ve never seen it either but it sure is a good idea. There have been plenty of cases where people have gotten injured due to bad grounds.
@beeper3884 жыл бұрын
Electric shock drowning (ESD) has been recognized as a major threat to life in recent years. Many simple drownings have been reclassified as ESD. The problem is much more dangerous in fresh water then salt water because salt water conducts electricity to ground and in fresh water looking for the path of least resistance finds people conducting much better then the surrounding water. Sort of makes people act like a giant capacitor! Your boat could be perfect but the dock or a nearby boat could be leaking dangerous current. Another. frightening situation is a nearby boat with no apparent problem turns on some accessory that is faulty and the water becomes charged. A nearby swimmer could be instantly electrocuted. Don't swim near boats, especially in fresh water. Leaking AC current has little effect on underwater anodes (zinc ) but stray DC current can eat up anodes much fastet then normal galvanic action. There is a ESD website started by a man who lost a child and almost his wife! to ESD. I don't know if a boat at anchor with a generator running is a hazard but the potential is there. A lot of these tragedies have occurred from houseboats on lakes and rivers. People like to swim in these conditions.
