Remember to lubricate your cables (annually?) as well. Even the new ones. People who own motorcycles are always amazed what a difference lubricating clutch and throttle cables has, and extending the lifespan. Some light weight oil or dedicated cable lubricant is perfect. get plenty in there.
@doncritzer27984 ай бұрын
There is actually a tool you screw on the end of cable , the spray can of cable lube fits in the tool and you lube it up....
@greghanger16054 ай бұрын
While taking off the clutch and throttle covers on the fly bridge and cleaning the moving parts up, I had screws loose so I tightened them and then sprayed wd40. So would I have to dissemble it all to get to the correct parts to lube? Also the fly bridge port throttle shifter ins affecting the movement range on the wheelhouse shifter, port throttle shifter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 1971 58.5 foot Hatteras named Temptress.

OMG it looks like you anchored south of the 192 Causeway if that is true I’m only five minutes south in my condo in Melbourne Beach. I am on the Indian river side, not Beachside in Melbourne Beach I would have come out to meet you since I’ve been following you people for five years now look it up on a map the condo I live in is 3220 RiverVilla Way, fifth floor next time you pass give a toot on your horn. And please try not to sink. lol 🇺🇸 Don 🇺🇸. If you going south down the Indian river my condos on the left I could have helped you with your mechanical stuff since I am an old-school boat mechanic but maybe next time love you guys stay safe.

As long as all the wiring is good and not corroded, it sounds like it's time to replace The Windlass motor. But before you do that, either get or borrow an electrical tester with an inductive pickup to test the amp load, simply find the feed wire, put the inductive pick up around the wire and then turn on the switch, that will tell you how many amps you're drawing, which should be less than the circuit breaker rating. If it draws excessive amps then you know it's the motor, and if the breaker trips before it's rated amperage, then you know it's the breaker. This way here you're not guessing. And It's something you can do yourself

I’m almost positive not long ago he did a complete replacement of the windless. If memory serves there was a lot of fiberglass work involved as the new one didn’t fit like original.

Front St., Marina Melbourne South - West side of the 192 bridge there’s a bar & grill when you pull up to the gas dock I can meet you there on your way back. The bar is called Ichabobs. Not sure I spelt it right, but you’ll find it on your map.

I need to lube the heck out of the windlass as well. It was a squeaky mess yesterday. Still worked though to get it out of the upper Chesapeake muck! Best wishes for your Bahama trip! Can’t wait to see what happens!!

With your recent change of anchor, do you think you may have exceeded the 'windlass' rated pull (inc rode), and not its maximum pull?

Stupid question time: is there lube in the windlass gearbox. That's what ruined mine, no fluid at all, I just didn't know. We're in the Kennedy Point marina, not far from where you were staying. Safe travels.

Hello you two. I love your videos and are planning on going to the bahamas on our boat very soon. I have a question, How much alcohol can you have on your boat when you travel from Florida to the Bahamas if you are planning on staying for a while?
@tryingnottosink91074 ай бұрын
We bring cases of alcohol. Literally. I do not know what the limit is but they never check or ask where we check in at.

Cables as linkages have 3 issues but 3 benefits as well. The issues: 1) they can slip at the engine end and need adjustment, 2) They can seize up and not move, 3) They can break. The benefits: 1) The slip is an easy fix, 2) They are cheap to buy, 3) They are easy to replace. The electronic / digital systems cost more and the only "fix" is replace sensors or controls. As popular as the electronic controls are I prefer the old mechanical systems as they are more readily serviceable when they have issues. After all it is not if it breaks down it is when it breaks down when it comes to boats.

New boats have problems as well. All boats in fact. When you put thousands of miles each year, things wear out.

A newer boat that size cost big big money

I’ve had three boats, one 30 plus years old, one 20 years old and one brand new….. more ongoing issues, days off the water, with the new one than the other two. For me a quality older boat being maintained regularly works best for me… as you say, they all have issues but the good days cancel out the bad ones.
