I get you, and I used to be the same. However, the human body is incredibley durable and the claims made by Krav Maga instructors about the potential damage to an assailant is very overstated. Watch an MMA match, a muay thai match, in fact a rugby match is probably the best example, look at what these guys do to each other, how hard they go in, they come out intact. The rare extreme injuries to eyes etc would not land you in prison as long as you can demonstrate the intent of the guy attacking you in court

Rolonar Actually it's the opposite... if you can't practice your techniques against a resisting opponent and perfect them in competition good luck applying them in a real life situation where chaos and adrenaline are involved. When I was in Israel I spoke to soldier about Krav... he told me most of his training revolved around accessing one of his firearms which makes sense as it is the most efficient way of defending yourself. If you think about it, training tons of hand to hand techniques is of little value to a soldier because it's ultra rare that he or she will engage in that kind of combat. Perhaps the civilian form of Krav is effective if practiced by athletic dudes that have dedicated their life to it but it is most definitely effective at extracting big bucks from normal people who will benefit very little from it.

I took karate, muay thai, and Krav Maga and I just have to say krav maga is vastly different then any other martial art I have seen or trained. Muay Thai wouldbe themost intense workout but the KM class was psychotic. The mindset km instills in you is just UNBELIEVABLY BRUTAL. Like I could kick vital areas and was training to be ready for a fight but KM trains you for the situation and to not question how much force to use. It trains you like you are in the Cobra Kai dojo from karate kid. Strike first, strike hard, no mercy Sir!
@earlbinvico7 жыл бұрын
Stephen LaFave I'm a Krav Maga practitioner. I have some little experience in Taekwondo and Boxing as well. Yeah, training is harder than the other two. Every single attack, has to be the strongest one you can give. And it's right, if you have mercy for your enemies, they will see you weak and will counter-attack merciless. I especially liked the fact you mentioned the Kobra Kai Dojo. That's exactly what I tell to my friends what it's like when they ask about it. Not necessarily a beautiful martial art, but the training you need to actually use what you've learnt when the situation is given.

Earl Vińbiłco Putinov I am undecided whether to take up taekwondo or Krav Maga. Which one is best for self defence?
@earlbinvico6 жыл бұрын
JJ L, if you are looking for self-defence abilities, go for Krav Maga. Techniques are quite simple, and it's easy to learn and also very useful. I also noticed that my physical condition increased drastically after one month of training. But the most important part to practice is aggressiveness, determination and rapid response in situations. However, you won't start disarming people with guns. You'll start throwing straight punches, kicks, knee and elbow strikes, and hammer fists until you do them properly. And the first complex techniques you'll see will be escaping form chokes (all angles), naked chokes, headlocks, etc. But, the harder you practice, the faster you get to see complex stuff. Now, I must say that there's a little loose end, which is full contact and wrestling. There I recommend you to take BJJ or Jiu-Jitsu, apart from Krav Maga. But go first for Krav Maga I can say Taekwondo makes you really agile, fast and flexible, but high kicks are not quite safe to use in real situations, nor would you use complex kicks, and it takes a lot of time and practice to learn all of that. So, my last word: I recommend Krav Maga. Check the school is prestigious, and choose the best one. From there, it'll depend on you how fast you progress.
@MrEnric986 жыл бұрын
+Earl Vińbiłco Putinov Hey, you look like you know about that and I had a doubt. I was thinking to choose either Krav Maga or Kali Filipino to start training (I've never had) so what you recommend? I'm interested in self-defense, sh't that works in real life not just good looking (I dont want to enter a fight without knowing I'd be the safest possible). I'm a very tall person but skinny. I dont like kicks but they may be useful for me (because of my lenght). Simple and effective techniques, strictly for self-defense, easy to learn and if possible an evading art. I have a school of Kali next to home so it would be comofrtable for me, but I'm not interested in weapons at all, I dont bring sticks around while on the street... So, which one should I take? Thanks for the help
@earlbinvico6 жыл бұрын
MrEnric98 Well, thank you for asking. I can't talk about Kali from my personal experience, but I've watched many demonstrations and classes, and I can say it's actually brutal. It doesn't do only weapons, but also hand to hand combat. However, after analysing it carefully, I have seen it does make an emphasis on weapons, and I can see it needs you to memorise movements and convos you couldn't use naturally in given situations. Not only learning it will be difficult, but it will also take time, because you will not take full hand to hand combat classes, you'll train with weapons too. And as you said, you are unlikely to be carrying weapons in a real fight. So, I can say it works, but it needs a lot of time and practise, and it's not quite easy or fast to learn. It could help you if you were going for the armed forces, and not actually training to defend yourself about right now. Krav Maga uses simple movements, but they must be as fast and as strong and you can use them. Kicks won't be a problem, because the highest one we use goes to the floating ribs. We only use 5: groin kick, front push kick, low roundhouse kick (only to be used on quadriceps and floating ribs), side kicks and back kicks. They are ordered from the one you are most likely to use to the ones you would rarely use. We also use knee strikes a lot, but after acquiring the proper form, they won't cause any trouble. From there, we use the whole boxing arsenal, hammer fists and elbow strikes. So, I can say I could recommend Krav Maga again. It's simple and easy, but what you need to practice is to use it properly, and submission-escaping moves. Now, make sure you can afford a certified Krav Maga school, and check their training before doing anything. Make sure training is really exhaustive. If you have any big issue than really won't let you go to a Krav Maga school, Kali is not a bad option. One more advice: if you are going for Krav Maga, and you don't train any sport, start running (sprinting, not jogging), push-ups, sit-ups, squats, burpees, and if possible, jumping the rope and cycling about two or one month before you join. It'll help you a lot to take the class in a better way.

"Martial arts" as a term is relatively new and is widely associated with post-feudal Japan when there was no longer a need to train for actual combat and the practice became more about developing technique and personal cultivation. Most martial arts come from combat systems, but have long ago switched focus away from the grimy shit that ends athletic careers. That grimy shit combined with some basic footwork and grappling and some high percentage strikes is basically every combat system.
@davidhermidagrana7 жыл бұрын
The definition of a martial art is a type of fighting that is meant to kill or reduce somebody, and a true martial art is not about wild punches, a martial art have concrete techniques and a mentality. The history and the training of krav maga talks by itself, why then taekwondo is a martial art? it is even younger than krav maga (1955 taekwondo - Krav maga WW2) xDDD
@Spookey00gmailcom7 жыл бұрын
I fully agree with you. Although most consider it a 'martial art', I disagree with that assessment. It is a very brutal self defense system. There is no 'art' in Krav Maga. In fact, when compared to regular martial arts, it is rather ugly. There is no grace, no fluidity like you see in other forms. It is straight forward and brutal. All strikes are designed to be at full power, and powerful as well. Our punches are full, like in boxing. Our kicks our through and powerful, like Muay Thai. Remember Krav is really just a system of the most powerful and devastating defenses from any martial art. Unlike most other 'martial arts', Krav Maga is ever-changing. If something is less effective than something else, the tested and proven new thing is adopted.

One of the best things about Krav is that it teaches you to avoid using moves that heighten the vulnerability of your soft spots. I am a 5'3" woman and I took Krav Maga to learn how to defend myself. For women, if we are fighting for our lives, we usually only get one shot, on brief millisecond to get an advantage on our attackers. I don't have the strength or time to waste punching someone in the face, I need to know how to bring someone much bigger than me to their knees with one strike. Krav Maga taught me that. It also gave me the mentality of "no mercy" to fight until the person is not moving or I can get away. I don't think men understand what it is like to be a woman or how powerful and strong men are and what a disadvantage we are at because of it. You MEN don't know what it's like to be afraid to walk to your car in the dark or wonder if the blind date you are on is going to result in rape or assault of some type. Krav Maga has no rules because when you are fighting for your life, there are no rules. I am currently training in kickboxing and I love it, but I keep thinking, I could drop this guy right now with a swift jab to the throat. For those who are in a position where they may need to defend themselves (which is everyone, you never know what might happen) Krav Maga is worth your time to learn.

People say that Krav Maga is dirty, ineffective and unrealistic. First of all, it's not dirty when it's designed to end a fight as fast as possible. Second of all, my friend trained in Krav Maga like me, and one day found himself in a street fight with his girls ex. Sure enough, a kick to the groin and he had him on the ground. Thirdly, Krav Maga installs a mindset into you to ensure you do not care about how much force you use against the attacker or care at all about the attackers well being. Overall, you find yourself in a street fight, you don't care about fighting 'dirty', you want the fight over as quickly and effectively as possible. This is what Krav Maga focuses into, and what makes it effective in real life self defence and street fight situations.
@ProperCashFlow6 жыл бұрын
Your friend nor you should be proud of the fact that the only way he could take down his girl's ex was with a kick to the balls. If that is the pinnacle of Krav Maga technique... then my 10 year old daughter is practically a black belt.

@@ProperCashFlow I get you, it is not exactly the peak of combat ability, I feel uneasy learning this in KM, but in this story the alternative may have been ending up in hospital or worse. Maybe the guy is no fighter, not everybody is, he has to save his neck somehow. I think KM is really just intended to be a basic strategy that is better than nothing, and can be learned without devoting years to its perfection. Like I say, I agree with you, basically.

I would not recommend Krav Maga as a first/basic martial art to learn. First learn how to strike and kick properly. And get some experience sparring. These things are key for any martial art, but Krav Maga lacks the right emphasize on these basic skills imo. Made it to G-level though (KMG) and love the system. But be sure to train some martial arts like BJJ and thaiboxing on the side to be a complete fighter.

I agree with you on the fact that it takes more time in Krav Maga to learn how to strike and kick properly. I am a G level myself as well and I didn't learn how to strike well until I was P5/G1. And this is partially because you have to learn different techniques to defend against so many things, so there less time to learn to strike. You should definitely do some other martial art on the side, but if you don't have enough time and can only choose one type of martial art, then my choice would still be Krav Maga.

I generally try to avoid conflict and I never take violence to anyone, but if you come at me I assume you mean to kill me and I'll do whatever it takes to eliminate the threat. I find the confidence you gain from martial arts training is usually enough to get a douchebag to leave you alone. It helps that most people that actually know how to fight respect violence and only utilize it when appropriate.

Dear Shane, I watched your first video 12 years ago, helped me to deal with a few bullies in high school. So Im thankful for the things you do for people. As for krav, from my experience there are two types of krav maga trainings, one is similar to fit boxing (tecnhniques and fitness) and other is ,,real krav,,. And this ,,real krav,, is rarely to be found cause training is to agressive for many people and few instructors dares to teach that way cause people will probably leave and wont pay monthly fee anymore. So finding ,,real krav,, near your place can be a bit tricky. There are more fit krav schools out there. As for effectiveness of krav, well if man trains krav maga properly and knows also a bit of boxing and bjj, I think he will do fine in most situations. Greetings from Serbia.

Karate did not start as a sport. It was orignially a highly effective combat system that worked in the real world, but around the 1900s it started being taught as a watered down sport/fitness activity, and that's most of what you see of karate today. Almost nobody trains it the way it should be trained, many schools today either practice for sport, bullshit "sefl defence", or so someone can make money. But the original karate is very good.

1. Every martial arts has put out a video at some point including BJJ and MMA. 2. Not everyone lives within travel distance to a gym 3. While the videos might be generic and basic, if you have no other options (no close gyms of any sorts, no instructors around you, no anything) isn't something better than nothing? 4. The videos might also be used as supplemental as in my case. I train 3-4 times a week with an instructor but those days where work prevents me from attending or I get home too late to make the class, I like to practice at home and it allows me to practice some of the moves when I can't make it to the gym.
@eatadick36168 жыл бұрын
+Are_You_Serious? supplemental is one thing but people watching videos and then thinking they can fight is dangerous. I don't think there's anybody in the United States that doesn't have access to a gym it's how much you want it
@are_you_serious51888 жыл бұрын
Eata Dick 1. I love the name...that's hilarious! 2. I have been many places that don't have gyms. I appreciate you may have several around you but I've lived throughout the USA and I can tell you that isn't the case everywhere. 3. I agree that training strictly from a video will NOT be sufficient to teach you to fight, but it CAN teach is some basic principals like situational awareness which can help you avoid fights, etc. 4. Please note, I've personally seen examples where a very insecure young person was scared of joining a gym and his mother got him a martial arts video and he learned it front and back and felt confident enough to finally go to the gym and join. The instructors were aware of the situation and helped mold his good habits and correct his bad ones through positive reinforcement and even though he started from a video, he eventually achieved several belts the good old fashioned way and was quite good. He is one of my best friends and he used to tell me that if it wasn't for that cheesy video, he never would have had the confidence to join a gym. I guess what I'm saying is yes, learning from a video will not make you a martial arts master, I agree, but there are a lot of benefits for certain people out there whether confidence booster, supplemental, workout, or just what's available due to where you live. Whatever the reason, I don't think anyone thinks a video will make them a master, but it doesn't mean videos don't have some redeeming qualities.

In the streets, there are no rules, no referees, and no bell. Ignorant people keep comparing Krav Maga to other martial arts. Putting Krav Maga in a mixed martial arts tournament is like bringing a katana sword to a fencing match. The reason why we can't see the actual aftermath of Krav Maga on a person in these videos is also the reason why we can't find an actual video of a chemist showing you the effects of poison or acid on his lab partner. Use your common sense. The practitioners in the videos only show you the options that can be done in certain dangerous situations without actually executing the move in full effect on their training partner. Otherwise, a Krav Maga instructor would be replacing his training partner in every video. Krav Maga is not a martial "art" nor a "sport." it is a pragmatic fighting principle, composed of various moves from other "pure" styles. it collects different things and compiles it to form the most simple and effective move sets in a real life combat scenario. it get's some punches from boxing, kicks from muay thai & taekwondo, throws from judo, holds from jiu jitsu, knife fighting from FMA, etc. that's why you can't hold a tournament with it or put a Krav Maga practitioner in a combat sports ring. it's not a sport, nor is it an artform where you need to perfect a series of graceful movements. many of it's moves are designed for killing or injuring another person. it is direct, pragmatic, and should only be used as a last resort. punching the throat, kicking the balls, gouging the eyes, blocking with an umbrella or a chair, and stabbing with a knife or a broken bottle are some examples of "real life" fighting. Ignorant people who keep saying Krav Maga is bs because they keep comparing it to other martial arts will DIE when faced with a real life-and-death, kill-or-be-killed situation. There's simply no restrictions in Krav Maga and you can't implement that in a ring or an octagon unless you want to turn it into an illegal underground deathmatch arena. we can hardly call Krav Maga an "art" because it's not "pure" or "sporty" or full of rules, and that's what makes it effective. It's never about winning a match, it's about surviving an attack and going home alive.

This is one of the most uneducated comments I've seen on here so far. Martial arts for sport compared to martial arts explicitly for trying to kill someone are two different things. Obviously at a sports venue they don't try to kill each other. But to say that no other martial art is used this way is an outright lie. Plain and simple. End of story.
@NathanPalmer6 жыл бұрын
The word martial means war. Martial arts were developed to kill people. It was only added as a sport with scores and bells for entertainment value. If there is "no" other martial art used as the name implies, explain MCMAP or US army combatives? Hell, even in pankration events they would kill each other... Stop acting like KM is the only martial art that can do any damage. Obviously it's different than a sport-adapted martial art...

So what I got from this video is that Marcus honestly *thinks* it's effective otherwise he wouldn't be doing it, right..??? But all I see is sparring with people who play along - like Aikido. Where are the videos of actual sparring against people who fight back and *keep* fighting back? People who do not just use the single attack you trained for and stop fighting once you start your "show" of krav maga? It's hard to find videos of people using KM in a real fight - and the ones I find they are either losing the fight, or they are barely hanging on because they try to do boxing or kicking - none of their fancy KM techniques being used once against an opponent that is not placating them but actually wants to smash their face in. I would love to see a video of you guys having fun with a local Muay Thai, Kickboxing or BJJ Dojo, to see how KM would stand up to that!

Same bullshit is being said about Wing chun as an argument for its absence in the competitive scenery. You guys gotta stop trying to convince people that a martial art (no matter what is it) is effective in a street fight. As if the guy who's gonna rob you with his buddies is a NPC from a video game with the same moving pattern and a standard AI. As if emulating a robbery or a sexual assault attempt in a dojo on a mat with friendly people will teach you how to get away with minimal injury if not uninjured. IMO, you're either threatening enough so thugs do not risk attack you, or clever/focused and fast enough to anticipate the robbery/rape/whatever attempt and run away before it actually happens or clever enough to always be in a well lit place, surrounded by people and not drunk/stoned enough (preferably sober) so you're not vulnerable to harm.

For me personally, it's good to train for the sport AND the real-life stuff like krav or silat or kali. Just an analysis, having the athletic build, training and reflex adds as a bonus to the endurance up in problematic situations to which "fast and quick moves that are meant to end a fight quick" cannot end quickly in practice. It is in my opinion to know the side of sports for the conditioning and then the real life defense types of arts as not only for the situation but also for the mindset. The cardio, reflex and hardening of an athlete plus a mixture of deadly and direct to the point approach of krav or silat or kali or any self defense type is a good one to have.

the problem with Krav is how misrepresented it is the same as any other Military Martial Arts system has been. Like MCMAP as another example. people hear the phrase military hand to hand combat and get over excited about it. But they don't realise military hand to hand combat is actually not well funded and one of the smallest parts of military training because you are not supposed to ever be in a hand to hand combat situation as if you find yourself in that position in the military then you have fucked up many times to get to that point and usually it is designed to allow you to stay alive long enough to get back to your weapon. the military do not invest time and money into training soldiers in something that they are not really going to need to use 99.999999999% of the time when on active service. Krav Maga was first developed by Imre Lichtenfeld who was a Boxer and a Wrestler so it was based on those systems until 1965 when Judo training was incorporated into it (in fact Krav's grading system is based off the Judo Grading system). then in 1974 Eli Avikzar incorporated Aikido into his development of Krav Maga when he took over as chief instructor of Krav Maga. So Krav is basically cross training in boxing, wrestling, judo and Aikido

The problem is. That in order to practice the martial art and prove its effectiveness. One must compete or spar in full live mode. If i just drill techniques and situation. But don't anticipate the whole thing and won't go full power against an opponent that goes full power. How can i truelly go against someone on the street? (Of course attacking should be last option) KM is an excellent workout. But if i only drill and won't go through real sort of sparring. When the moment gets real, i will fail. That's why BJJ is so great. Sparring in BJJ is when both opponents going hard. Also Judo, and wrestling. As something you learn when training as a soldier. You can be the sharpest shooter there is, but until you will get fired upon. You won't know how good you shoot.

there are only 3 real problems I see with krav and one is very sizable. 1. in a first world country, krav will get you arrested for assult. straight up. the general public don't understand what it takes to get in a real fight situation and they will see krav techniques and not consider you using equal force to defend yourself. 2. You can completely and utterly esculate the fight to a degree that you never wanted, just due to people's emotions on what is a dirty fighter. 3. Most krav instructors are TERRIBLE at teaching anti grappling techniques. Most hate the ground so much they won't train a good sprawl or learn how to actually grapple. So if they get mounted...they probably know one technique that they did not put much time in. I feel you need a krav school with someone who is...legally trained as well who has to drill situations with you, where you recognise when you can go for the eyes or the neck and where you should just punch. Then you will probably need a guy who cross trains in some kind of grappling art who can teach you to keep you off the ground. But the problem is, according to him we only have 3 hours on adverage to train....well then what I suggested can limit how much time you have for training in the original krav. Not saying krav is bad. It's one of the martial arts I don't have to see work in competition in order to say it works. I am just saying it's problems in a first world country.
@maxwellsdemon65995 жыл бұрын
1) not really, no. You can use force and you can even use excessive force, when you are afraid. Legally its okay to neutralize an attacker. In my gym we regularly talk about legal aspects of self defense. You can use kravmaga techniques and if you use them to escape the situation, you wont get charged, even if the attacker is hurt. You don't know, when they would stop attacking. You don't know how hard they want to beat you up. You want to escape the situation. Using force is legal in that case. 2) The idea is to end a fight fast. What is the alternative? Let them hit you, so you don't escalate the situation? I'd rather play "dirty" and end the fight as fast as I can. 3) well that's a personal thing, but we regularly train ground defense and had even a 2 day course on this every year. So I can't speak for everyone but my instructor tells us to avoid the ground, but also tells us how to fight there.

Every martial art works, but the question is in which situation it can work. 20 hours of boxing will be much effectice in a street fight than 20 hours karate

Anybody that says it doesn’t work can kiss my ass. I trained it for 8 years. It’s no joke. the sparring in our school was full contact with 4 oz gloves. Injuries are part of the deal. Its not a sport so you can’t compare it to a martial art. If you want to learn to dirty fight and absolutely kick ass give it two solid years and attend at least 4 days per week. Attend the sparring. Attend the ground work classes. Now go back to your tray of Oreos.

IMHO krav maga's biggest flaw is you can't train full contact. I don't see how people can be so confident with an art that they've never ACTUALLY fought with before. Boxing, BJJ, Muay Thai. You're training at full force. You know it works because you've done it before. Krav maga you're just kind of hoping it works when you need it 🤷
@mxu1115 жыл бұрын
pfft....you spare more but it's not FULL FORCE. No one wants to get seriously injured during training. In KM, you wear protective gear and there ARE training scenarios where they go full contact. Might have to go to Israel for that level of training.

+Nelson White And you're assuming a BJJ black belt is gonna pull guard in a street fight? Plenty of street fights where BJJ is used in succession consist of basic takedowns or drag downs to an immediate RNC or armbar from people who don't even formally train BJJ.

There is a video of a fight where one guy was doing bjj, the other guy seemed untrained in martial arts but in shape from playing basketball or something. And the bjj guy went down on his back rolling around trying to get a knee bar while the other guy was standing over him. He made it, but he could easily be in a hospital bed drooling for the rest of his life from being stomped on the head now. When you train bjj as a sport long enough shit like this will be normal because it has rules. Your reflexes will kick in when fighting and you will do stupid shit like this.
@davidbanta59998 жыл бұрын
+ Nelson White Have you ever even rolled with a bjj black belt???? You're not going to fucking groin strike a bjj black belt in the guard. The most basic fundamental of the guard is breaking your attackers posture and controlling their arms. Even fucking white belts should know that. How do you expect to punch someone in the nuts when you're chest to chest? When they have control of your arms with underhooks and overhooks? Most people who walk into the gym I train at don't even know how to establish a half decent base on the top of guard, let alone keep their posture. Untrained grapplers fall over with the most basic hook sweeps by white belts - anyone blue belt and up would wreck you on the ground if you're not well-versed yourself. Period. Don't believe me? Go into your nearest BJJ gym and challenge their guys. None of those dudes are going to break a sweat balling you up and choking you unconscious.

+fightfanian krav maga also teaches defense against firearms and knifes. and I found that the knife training is extremely helpful because in my opinion knifes are a pain in the ass to deal with. everybody is entitled to their opinion and while I'm advocating for krav maga it also has its weaknesses. for example actual fist fighting is not part of the curriculum and is why my instructor has a kick boxing class in order to fill that gap.

I would strongly suggest that you take inventory of the people in your life. Avoid all associations with negative people who bring you down and make you feel "...like a loser." Find associates who you have something in common with that is POSITIVE. A martial arts class; swimming; sport; book club; speakers bureau; ...ANYTHING where people are like minded and working on self-improvement. This could include a church. Get to know POSITIVE people and avoid NEGATIVE people like the plague and keep all contact with them to an absolute minimum. Do this even if the negative people are relatives.

Krav Maga is a hand-to-hand combat that you'd be trained in military, police, spec ops, etc... But the problem is that an Average Joe thinks if he does Krav Maga he'll become a SuperMan ... The truth is that Krav Maga gives an Average Joe an edge over other Average Joe, but Average Joe stands no chance against a decent boxer or kickboxer, Average Joe will get knocked out, his nose, jaw broken before he knows what hit him... You just cannot compare reaction, speed, power and agility that boxer has to what people learn in Krav Maga... Krav Maga is a complementary system that works best for those who are already good in something or, at least, are naturally aggressive and crazy - definitely not an Average Joe... If Average Joe wants to make real fast progress - he'll be better off putting one year in hard training in a good boxing or Muay Thai dojo, - then go to Krav Maga

When you punch someone it can be to either wound(Testicles) or to basically lower stamina or loosen a grip. So if someone got me in a headlock and it was a female i punch for the groin and she loosens her grip then i throw her. but to be honest it is more than likely a man is going to attack you.

Bruce Lee is one of the most respected fighters of all time. If you read the Tao of Jeet Kune Do, you'll realize that it is not the martial art, but the martial artists that matter. Miyamoto Musashi, another great warrior, wrote in his Book of Five Rings that "the true science of martial arts is practicing in a way that they will be useful at anytime, and to teach them in such a way that they will be useful in all things." So I guess in order to accomplish whatever goals you have that pertain to martial arts, you have to be the dominant factor in all situations...utilize whatever style meets the occasion. There are some elements that are a must have, such as heavy sparring/rolling, copious amounts of focused training and a solid instructor or partner. Aside from that, whatever style someone uses does not matter...only that it worked, or it didn't.
