How was Larry Ellison allowed to buy Lana’i?
@TheHawaiiVacationGuide3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Chairmen of Dole and descendent of Sanford Dole put the island up for sale for a billion dollars. Larry bought it for $300 million. Land rights and property ownership in Hawaii is a dark and complicated tale, especially with the plantations.

I can heartily recommend visiting the Lanai Cat Sanctuary located near the airport. People capture, neuter, and then care for feral cats in a humane and loving environment in an effort to protect native Hawaiian birds. Currently there are more than 600 cats living in this cat friendly paradise. Visitors enjoy being surrounded by dozens of friendly cats begging for your attention. Don't worry, the grumpy cats avoid people in this spacious compound.

Town trip was important but only 4 places were open on Wednesday. Cultural Center does not open til 1pm so can't fit that into the plan very well . Best restaurant is Pele's Other Garden. Snorkeling after about 9am is a bust... Dangerous conditions, hard surf, sandy water, no fish, no dolphin, hard riptide. Need more than one day to see any other sites. Tour are expensive. Maybe try again in a few years...
