Lance Stroll right now is a new Grosjean. He’s inconsistent but on good days, puts on good results. Inconsistency in F1 is what makes some drivers a bit ignored/doubted. Last year, Emilia Romagna was the only race he scored outside of points without a Retirement or Withdrawal.

I want to see him (and the rest of the grid for that matter) try a race in IndyCar. The cars in European series tend to be more engineer's cars than driver's cars where engineers set up the cars and drivers need to adapt to how the cars are setup. Like how in F2 and F3 there is a clear team hierarchy despite being 'spec' series. The cars used in IndyCar and the American open wheel ladder are all about the driver finding a setup they're comfortable with and wringing out performance by driving the way they're best at. A great example is seeing on-board footage of Pato driving versus Palou driving. Pato is all over the place while Palou is very composed behind the wheel yet they can both extract the maximum form the cars.

Well, many don’t like the money in F1. It overcomes everything else. Just money and money. So it’s no surprise that people take an instant dislike to someone who has bought his way on. It's definitely 100% the chassis this time around. RP/AM went with a 2019 Mercedes and then ended up eating crow a year later with the floor diffuser and brake duct changes. Mercedes has found a way to turn their 2020 car into a contender in 2021, but Aston more or less shot themselves in the foot since the 2021 regs were pushed to 2022 leaving them with essentially a 2019 car they had to continue to build on. The way it seems, a lot of things that were tossed in betting on a one off shafted them long term. I would not be surprised if the Aston is giving Stroll trouble the same way the 2020 Ferrari gave Seb trouble. The chassis went from strong and predicable to unpredictable as hell. That ruins confidence. And I am not even basing this on a bias towards Stroll, I am just looking at it logically. There was no way Racing Point expected they were going to sneak by the rules the way they did and get away with it long term. So, they duplicated the 2019 Mercedes car to get more winnings based on placement in 2020 so they had better funding going into the new regs hit. Then Covid happened and everyone got screwed. It's like Mercedes with DAS, they put it in the 2020 car as a sendoff of the regs, knowing that the new 2021(2022 regs now) wouldn't allow that. Then 2021 regs ended up being a modified 2020 and Aston has to take a car that is a 2019 car especially, much like Alpine and Sauber.....and look where they are in the standings. Surprise, surprise, they fell back in the standings.

Lance Stroll is the only F1 driver that i've seen in 25 years of watching the sport that goes from absolutely bang average in perfect conditions, to a superstar when it all gets tricky. The more difficult it is, the better he does. Turkey last year, rain on bad surface, he sticks it on pole and dominates most the race. It has to be something in his driving style, how he works tyres etc, because you can't be as good as he is in the worst conditions without serious talent. We see it in dry races too, when the car is heavy and the grip goes down, he's generally fairly good, he's capable of picking up lots of places (albeit helped by qualifying lower than he often should) but the guy has very little pure speed in the best conditions, new tyres, low fuel etc. He's a total mystery.

Sebring with it's suuuper bumpy surface is so hard to nail consistently. In LeMans you have to get through a lot of complicated mid to high speed corners while basically having no downforce as that would slow you down on Mulsanne. And you have to do that for sooo many laps, in all conditions, day, night, dry and wet. You basically need to nail the whole package of being a racing driver. To give a good example of how Canada views racing, back in 1995 when Jacques Villeneuve won the first Indycar race of the year I went to straight to the sports section of the local paper the next day expecting a big article. What I saw was 2 lines in the "scores" section BUT a half page article about a local snowmobile race and a half page picture of the finish featuring the winner, Jacques Villeneuve Sr. Gilles brother. Even this was 4 pages in after the stories about hockey and curling.

I want Lance to win so badly because I will be pulling receipts on everyone who had something to say, from when he first entered the sport to now. The fanbase picks and chooses who they root for and its farcical at times. Stroll frustrates me with his inconsistency at times but that day at Instanbul gave me hope that we'll see that first win in the next couple of years (maybe).

Will he be a World Champion? No probably not. Does he deserve to be in F1 at all? I would say yes, I think he has justified his Daddy’s choice of keeping him in the team and is now a solid F1 driver who will score points regularly and maybe get the odd podium here and there. It is a shame he will always be labeled as Daddy’s boy by some people though.

Those are the same people who cry 'Crashtappen' and 'Hamilton only wins because he is in a Mercedes', I would add a George sucks because he's in a williams comment, but it seems those people are thought to shut up after Spa and Sochi. Those people don't really care for the sport enough to understand the nuance that's in there.

@@TooKlingy Checo doesn't really feel like a pay driver does he? It's pretty ridiculous how close he was to not being in F1 this season considering how good he is and how much money he brings with him
@Takeangel19953 жыл бұрын
What people seem to forget is that he's still one of the youngest drivers on the grid. Man he's 22 soon to be 23. Honestly I believe that he's not yet at his peak, but his time will come, I'm sure of that. In addition to that, I have a feeling that he started great this season but then that brutal accident in Baku came. Somehow I have a feeling that he's still recovering from that.

This guys is the literal ping pong, he can display senna level wet skill race but afterwards he kind of confused of how brake pedal works. idk about this guy, if anything this guy inconsistent af. The most inconsistent one in the grid tbh, only when he had his spotlight, he threw it away or another driver is there to overshadow his achievement (except Baku in 2017). Stroll still has long way to go, but how long did he will reach that level of a top driver, cuz for somebody who driving the car in 4 years and still having this issue, this guy is sure a slow learner.
@quaistein-52253 жыл бұрын
While I do agree he is good in the wet, he isn't quite a "senna level".

The thing is almost anyone else even the standard pay driver would not be given this time. Like keeping him over Perez? Please...
@aaronmachado133 жыл бұрын
I do agree his inconsistency last year were greatly exaggerated as people forget tire failure in mugello, Russia having Charle put him out of the race and Germany getting covid. Hardly his fault whereas Bahrain, portimao and Imola he had some input in the outcome. The problem was that he has a good season whereas Checo had a great year. This year though his unfortunate tire failure came out the same time Seb podium which for a team like Aston Martin is next to impossible to overcome. I do hope he lives up to the title of F1 driver cause the better a driver performs, the more they push their competitors to new heights like Checo did with Ocon, Daniel did to Max and now that he found his footing at Mclaren he is starting to do for Lando.

Lance was doing very well up until Baku, where he had the tyre failure. I'm pretty sure that that might've affected him mentally coz it was on the straights and all of a sudden when he lost control of the car. He's a really good driver and we all know he can do really well, but the problem rn is that he's not very consistent this season. He's just, there. If he can improve on his consistency issues and his 1 lap pace, I'm pretty sure he'd be a great driver

Love your videos about Lance... Don't always agree but still enjoy them. Lance is usually full of surprises, quiet and usually outdrives cars around him at the start of a race. Don't forget he's sometimes better than most when it rains, as well. Being Canadian myself... we're just waiting for his first win. Oh... it will happen, eh. 👍🍁

I'll be the first to admit I do think Lance is lucky to have his Dad as his employer and wonder if it wasn't for that fact if he'd still be in F1 on pure merit. I've mellowed from.the early days of finding any reason to criticise him. I want him to prove the naysayers, including me, wrong. I find myself now quietly rooting for him.
