⚽ With the English Premier League being stronger than ever in terms of Irish viewership and interest it begs the question,
is the League of Ireland Premier Division worth supporting and attending? What's the fanbase like and is the quality and level of competition there? Watch this unfiltered matchday review as I tour the stadium grounds and rate a regular SSEAirtricity LOI match.
See what you think, and have your say down in the comments below? If you like this content, share with me more stadiums and teams in Ireland that you would like me to attend and review?
Opponents: Cork City FC v Drogheda United - March 2023
Stadium: Turners Cross, Cork, Ireland

Thanks for this quality vlog, Paul. Love seeing them. Personally I think that many people get far too serious about football. The game should be fun and for all the family to enjoy. In my wife's village in Nepal (Makaising), the local teams compete on a rare piece of flat land. No stadium, sit anywhere on the ground. It is really basic. Almost the whole village (and so many from nearby villages) turn up to watch, shout, cheer and laugh. There's no charge and the winning team will receive one (or more) goats as a prize. It's fantastic fun and nobody's too serious. My nephew here was a player there. I wish I could show you a pic but not possible in the comments. Best from Anthony. Keep the vlogs coming because I love watching them.

Good video. I want to go to a Cork City game one day as that club and stadium have long intrigued me. As for your question, absolutely, especially for those who are Irish or live there. To me, there is nothing like an in-person game day experience, regardless of which sport, plus the only way that Irish football will grow is if more Irish people support it as opposed to simply helping the English game get even bigger than it already is.

Thanks for watching Matt. Excellent comment too man. I share the same thoughts. You really cannot beat the in person matchday experience and seeing good attendances at Irish games is great for the sport. Cork City is a lovely club and stadium so worth a visit some time if you get the chance. ⚽💪

I am English but I live in Ireland. I go to GAA games when I am in Ireland and EFL (Bristol Rovers) when in England. League of Ireland standard is poor, but the fans are proper fans like English conference and non league fans they feel close to their club. I tried Munster Rugby found it boring. GAA was class though, went to Clare v Tipperary the passion of the players was just a different level and the supporters are friendly as well. All in all, living in Ireland made me appreciate how good football in England is right now. Ireland is a very interesting place, but very different as the towns are smaller than in England.

Thanks for sharing your perspective, great comment. And you highlighted the GAA which is very relevant because I hope to get to a few football and hurling games next season and record the Matchday experience in some of the more interesting stadiums around the country. 👍

I went to that game it was so bad. Ref was blind and the away fans didn't even notice the OG until the game restarted

Cheers for the comment. Yeah, the reffing could have been much better for sure! Ye are looking in much better shape in recent weeks😎. Great to see this because I feel teams with a fanbase as big as Cork need to stay in the Premier long term to help this league become more and more competitive. I will be keeping a close eye on how things pan out and hoping your current rich vein of form will continue.

Stadium has 7,385 seats but you could probably fit 7,800 in the stadium there are plenty of spaces to have standing supports particularly by the gaps. Cool video and views.

I think it will be interesting for subs video about GAA competitions. Because Ireland is only one country in Europe where the national sports more popular than British

Ya I think over all most LOI fans would agree that we are EFL one in terms of comparison however, a very small amount of teams shams, Derry and Bohs could survive in the lower half of the championship. Overall fair assessment though 👍

Its embarrassing that Ireland dont have a genuine professional football league, especially considering the games popularity, impact on society and of course economy. I think a proper league with real investment would be very popular. no reason why there couldnt be multiple team getting 15,000 plus at games
@gottawander
@gottawander 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's a pity alright, definitely a lot of potential there. High demand with many grounds selling out weekly and many local fans struggling to get tickets. Hopefully the popularity continues to grow which will lead to more and more investment 🤞 appreciate your input.
