It's a mistake to believe this show is not for you. It is far deeper and more involved than the impression you got from the pilot. It is NOT a police procedural, the "cases" merely serve as metaphors for lessons the many characters need to learn. It is funny, deep, dramatic and romantic and if you watch 2 or 3 more episodes it will "hook" you as it has countless others. These writers are among some of the best for a TV series - ever! And the performances are outstanding as well. But of course it is your choice to watch further....
@ThreadBomb Жыл бұрын
I agree it's a great show, but it's definitely a police procedural (mostly). The whole premise is that Lucifer teams up with the detective to solve crimes.

I really hope you decide to do more reactions to this show. In my opinion, the first 4 episodes of the series really sets up the whole show. And season 2 is a wild ride that just keeps getting better and better. Definitely worth the time. Because it's not just about Lucifer. All of the "side characters" really get a lot of growth and story time throughout the series.

Lucifer is the kind of show you'd enjoy even without being a fan of cop shows (at all or anymore). If you watched Castle, expect a similar vibe, the difference is that Lucifer is more flirty, obnoxious and has a much more grown-up sense of humor. Like you said, he is tired of the stereotype that he's a bad guy, he's tired of being judged for his job, essentially. The show is mostly about him discovering who he really is, trying to understand himself, create his own image, find his own way. He's deeply offended when people say the Devil made them do something evil. His job is to punish evil, not create it, which is why he enjoys investigating murder cases with Chloe. He also projects his own personal issues onto the cases they work on. She's constantly annoyed by his antics but they warm up to each other. Why she's immune to his powers will be of major importance for many reasons, especially to him. His brother, Amenadiel, will also go through his own personal struggles and experiences in the human world. There will be other celestials with their own attitudes towards humanity, shows how ignorant they actually are. All wrapped in comedy so it's not a heavily religious cop show.

So, the DC character of Lucifer Morningstar was actually modeled after David Bowie. They absolutely knew they weren't going to be able to mimic that for the show, so they didn't bother. And it turned out great. Although that's why they had Fame playing in the club, as a nice little homage to the comics version.

this is definietly one of those shows that just keeps getting better and better - the first 4 episodes are pretty much setting up the characters and their relationships and what we can expect from the show, ep 5 is where things really take off, not that the first 4 eps aren't really solid eps! it's an emotional journey and definitely such a fascinating concept! even though it is technically based on dc comics, it's basically it's own thing (though a version of tom ellis' lucifer does cameo in a crossover episode in one of the arrowverse shows)

I always see her coming back to rewatch it when she runs out of new shows. I think she may even rewatch it more than me! lol. The characters really and truly make it. As a retired teacher here in the US, I can tell you that most schools over here now have security guards, and all visitors are supposed to check in at the front office & get a visitor's badge. Active shooter drills are practiced regularly, too.

I also wasn't completely sold by episode 1, but the character of Lucifer, let alone the performance of Tom Eliis in general, grows SO much throughout that you would be truly making a horrible mistake to not continue the show. Also it develops an ensemble cast that is impeccable. No character goes to waste, and all of them get their moments to shine. Linda, Mazikeen, Amenadiel, and Dan are all characters that show up in this episode and only grow in importance and depth with time. Amenadiel grows into my favorite character in the entire show. Do yourself a favor and watch it. Trust your audience, they won't steer you wrong.

The David Bowie song playing (Fame) at the beginning when you first see the club is funny because in the comic books Lucifer looks exactly like Bowie, the creator drew him on purpose to look like Bowie, that is also a big complaint from the comic fans about the show because he doesn't look anything like his comic book (blonde ect).
@brendadotter4433 Жыл бұрын
Too bad the comic book fans didn't realize that the series never intended to stick to the comic book character very closely. The writing for Lucifer is just outstanding, especially if you like puns and quips as I do. But the dramatic dialogue is great, too.

About Chloe Decker (Lauren German): I always thought her facial structure would make her an excellent choice for an elf in a fantasy series or movie. As for schools (and I started to study to become a teacher and also had a bit of practical experience teaching), none of the schools I visited had any kind of security or something like a front desk (even though somewhere inside was administrative staff), but for Los Angeles (or any major city in the US), I agree that it looked weirdly different at that school.

As a fan I recommend continuing the watch. If you don’t though - here’s the explanation as to why Chloe is immune to Lucifer’s tricks. Spoiler (kind of): it’s later explained that God sent Amenadiel to earth when Chloe’s parents were having trouble conceiving. He basically blessed them with Chloe per God’s orders as she was created for Lucifer I can’t remember if the reason was love or balance or something along those lines but since she was made specifically for him his tricks can’t manipulate her.

Yes, there is something of a "Cop show vibe", but it isn't really a cop show. It is more about the characters rather than the crimes being solved. It gets better and better and you really should give the whole series a watch. Lucifer doesn't lie, if you ask him a question, he may not answer but he won't tell a lie, point of pride with him. After the piolet you can't say you aren't curious as to why Lucifer thinks he needs a therapist? I bought the entire series on Blu-ray just so I could binge out on it. One K likes and 14 K views should indicate that a LOT of people love Lucifer.

this show is a MASTERPIECE, ofc the first season was created in what, 2015-2016 around, so some of the humor MIGHT seem outdated at times if one's picky about that, but I personally LOVE LOVE L O V E this show. It's not a pure cop drama, 'case of the week' show if it seems like that from first view, they are just a base for the more deeper development. This show has just the right amount of cheesy and doesn't enter into cringe territory lmaoo if you're worried. The character development, the story, the lore and the subversion of biblical ideas is AMAZING. I'm not a Christian, so I wouldn't know the nuances or implications like that, but it's fucking phenomenal. And it just gets better and better as the seasons go on. Personally season 4 and 5 are my absolute favourites. This show will always have a spot in my heart. And Tom Ellis is a wonderful, MARVELLOUS actor. He actually does portray the devil PERFECTLY. No exaggeration. Not to mention his looks are just a lil cherry on top of this great cake.

The show starts a little weak because it is introducing new characters. It gets much better as it goes along. There are a lot of twists throughout. It uses tbe cop show as a platform to tell the story. The character Lucifer came originally from the Sandman series. He was a minor character in that. The interesting thing is there is a crossover in one episode of Legends of Tomorrow and Lucifer that occurs in a timeline prior to this show. The Lucifer presented here is owned by DC comics, but it is one of the most intellegent comics out there.

I agree, and this show is loosely based on the Lucifer that appears in the Sandman. I think the show runners didn’t think anyone would be in to the supernatural aspect which of course, the slowly brought in. Many wanted Tom to reprise the role but both he and the creator Neil Gaiman thought it would not fit as the changes made for the Lucifer show are good but the comic accurate version works too and both are hilarious although the situations may be far more dire in the Sandman version.
