If you’re looking at raw stats, it’s not even close. Luka had better Pts/G, Reb/G, Ast/G, and efficiency than SGA, Brunson, and Ant. He’s stat line alone makes him 1st team all NBA if not regular season MVP. Come on man, stop judging people on how much melanin they happen to have or the neighborhood they happen to be raised in. American NBA players and sports commentators are biased toward the physically talented young players. They think that to the MVP you need to have highlight dunks and a high percentage of three-point shoots. Basketball also requires skills in rebounding, dribbling, setting picks, passing, and most importantly being able to breakdown defenses. The European players are just more talented in all the skills that basketball requires. Jokic has been the MVP because of the all-round skills he has and also because the Nuggets have worn a championship. Luka will most likely not win the MVP until Dallas wins a championship and they force the biased voters to recognize his greatness.

You have to remember the reporting from the MLB playoffs last year. The media was making a big deal that there wasn’t enough “American Born” black players. US media is biased towards US players, and that is to be expected especially in game like basketball. Look it’s not racism, it’s nationalism. I’m from the UK, here the soccer premier league is a very international league, there are some homegrown players but most of the top,Ayers are now foreign. Despite this, the UK players are slightly favoured in the media because everyone in this country who supports their local team has a big soft spot for the homegrown players who often grew up supporting their club as a fan (making them more relatable to the local fans). It is totally understandable, not malicious but people find the bias annoying. The only difference is the homegrown players are as likely to be black or white as the foreign players so it is never seen as about race. I think the same thing is happening with American nba media, they cater to patriotic American fans who like the US players more, it just so happens most of the foreign players in NBA are white European while most homegrown players are black so when they support the home players it looks like they are favouring black players.

It's a specific type of racism among black folks as well when it comes to white people who are doing well in what has been categorized as traditionally 'black spaces' (whether what we're talking about is basketball, hip hop etc., and whether the hate is coming from black commentators or the average black fan). Here's specifically what I've noticed over the years. If someone is good enough to participate and maybe even be pretty good (ex: a white role player in the NBA or someone who's good enough to make the all-star game a couple years/ the #3 member of a championship Big Three) then they like him. But when it's a guy who's a legitimate threat to lead a team to a championship, win an MVP, become the best player in his era, then they hate that guy's guts. Was like that with Bird back in the day, it was the same with Dirk and Nash later on and it's the same with Jokic and Luka today.
