Unfortunately, the comparison is marred by the approach. Determining the settings in Luminar and seeing if Lightroom looks the same make a huge assumption that each app uses the same scale and approach to modifying the image based on each setting. I did enjoy the video but won't be relying on the findings,,

Agree with chriscrowhurst. How can you assume that a given numeric change in one program produces the same effect as the same numeric change in the other program? Seems like a real stretch without data.

It was just the most fair comparison
@larrymulmed208110 ай бұрын
I disagree. The most fair comparison is to move the individual sliders to make the adjustments from each program look as close to the same as possible, regardless of the numbers.

no, the percentage refer to the maxmium effect of individual software, using same percentage has no meaning at all.@@LandscapePhotographyUniversity

@@LandscapePhotographyUniversity You can't assume the same linear / non linear curve on the controls unless you test to confirm it.

@@LandscapePhotographyUniversity I mean you could bust out spectral analyser and adjust values until both match, but I guess it's too much work for a shill video

The shadows in Luminar was -18, Lightroom was -13. Not much difference but, it could bring it closer to Luminar.

While I appreciate your attempt at an objective comparison, this one doesn't really say anything about the programs besides how sensitive the sliders are. The brightness, contrast, etc sliders simply apply a formula to each pixels color values, which as far as I know is the same one for every major editing software. This means that as long as you use the same intensity factor (which can be mapped to different values on the slider) you get an identical output in every program. I would love to see you do a comparison of their extra features, differences in workflow etc though❤

I have luminar neo and lightroom. I use neo as a plugin. Because Neo has problems with colors display. I'v got calibrated monitor.

Just curious if you received either program free of charge? I've seen other reviews of Luminar by photographers who received the program free of charge from Skylum. Is that the case here?

Great question. I personally bought Luminar the first time and this version was provided for me. I pay for Lightroom and photoshop

Pretty sure I described everything and that I preferred Luminar but gave enough info so people could also make their own decision...

It's also bleedware subscription based, so right away that takes it off the table with all the other Adobe products. For me, it's Affinity Photo for the rest of my life with _perpetual_ licenses.

Interesting! You can buy Luminar just one time instead of the subscription, but you don't get the auto updates

A very useless comparison since we do not process images numerically but by looks. To make it worse, you process to taste in Luminar and then take that over to Lr and of course is not going to translate well, try it the other way around and obviously you will get the opposite results.
@gogogo84489 ай бұрын
Exactly, unfortunately it's completely useless.

I thought you were going to compare features of the programs, not their sliders. Sorry, bro, this video is quite pointless.
