it's not only about relationships, in my case, one who is "moving towards" becoming Egoless, it's much harder to explain if someone may be interested in hearing, my mother probably thinks i'm completely mad, same with the rest of my family and "friends". i love how even religious people can't understand it, when i am one who experienced god, and i am working on becoming one with God, yet even religious people see it as nonsense. eh, this society will be the death of me, as it is already.

Whether to get married or stay single as a spiritual seeker is your personal choice and it totally depends on the intensity of your longing for the ultimate experience. Since many people have no experience of joy beyond their five senses, they tend to believe and easily conclude that there is nothing beyond sensory passions and worldly enjoyments. Hence they fail to seek any further. It is only when one practice spiritual discipline and meditation in the right way can one realize that there are higher forms of joy possible for mankind. When you're single, you've enough freedom and time to learn and practice spiritual discipline necessary for the realization of this truth. But for a married person, there may be various responsibilities and limitations that prevents him or her from doing what is needed for the attainment of higher and permanent experience of joy in life. Yogesh Pawar i knew without guru it was impossible for me for any one to get liberation ,whether you are married or bachelor ,look we get marry not just for sexual pleasure for next generation to come and when we get older so that wife should take care of husband ,yet i knew this is not get us moksha we either died in our house or in nursing home or hospital with oxygen musk on for sure . +Akash Dhyani, Don't compare Gods or ancient sages with modern men. Modern men are so weak mentally and physically owing to their lack of childhood training under the guidance of a realized Guru... Though the idea of Gods are symbolic in Hinduism, we must know that ancient men or sages in India could lead a married life without getting entangled in it because they all were properly trained by a realized Guru since their childhood. This is not the case with our present age. Today, so many of us are addicted to sense enjoyments that our mind is constantly coming up with excuses to justify our own weakness so that we can enjoy indulging in momentary sensual pleasures. This is evident from many comments for this video... Higher pleasures in life come only to those who sacrifice lower pleasures and not otherwise. We cannot go higher without giving up the lower. Marriage after Self-realization is safe. But marriage before Self-realization can lead to delusion and serious downfall will be the result. Therefore, whichever may be your choice, make sure you do not regret later.

If everyone answered the question "Should I Marry or Stay Single as a Spiritual Seeker?" with "spiritual seeker," humanity would have died out a long time ago. The two options have been unnecessarily worded to be mutually exclusive. They don't need to be. One can seek God and have a beautiful relationship with another human being at the same time, especially if they are both spiritual. Such a relationship allows them to raise children who are likewise spiritual, thus, helping to create a better world.

We face 1000s of gurus from birth. But none teach about the true highest purpose of life. They push us to school, teach us things that are unnecessary. Make us addicted to sensual pleasures and material comforts. Ensure we marry and enjoy the pleasures of life and finally at a ripe old age, we realize it's just too late for spirituality and yet just pray, pray, pray, still unable to understand why we do all this anyways... Spirituality is only for children. Children need to be taught to be yogis, saints and altruists. But modern education systems make them fall into Lust and Greed and end up in relationships, marriages and complete destruction of their spiritual life for eternity.

When you refuse to take your eyes from the goal, your inner sentiment and outer behaviour will show that conviction in every action you perform and help them understand your seriousness about it. First, listen and try to get their fears and concerns addressed by means of data and case-studies , if needed make them meet parents & family of some advanced spiritual aspirants . That will comfort their fears over time and may even inspire some of them. Finally if nothing works, follow Gandhiji's method of non-violent resistance till you achieve your noble goal . Honestly speaking, a highly advanced soul seeking for God will be desireless. Only with desirelessness they are protected from this world and can be near to God and understand the truth, and how they will marry? No way, they do not want to marry and also do not have any need of that. But most people cannot be like that. We do not know what is our fate. Some people seek truth in their young age gradually change to seek the world and money and completely get lost. I think the main reason is that they seek the truth but never have any love for God. So they cannot be rightly guided.

I disagree , being desireless also means having no desire to serve the poor, no desire to do any good,there is also no definition of right and wrong rather emptyness.The great Yogananda is speaking of a desire of union with God which is the only true fulfillment as this cannot be achieved being empty rather seeking the Lord .

S Mathias , Yes, I means desireless but only with the one aim seeking for God. Desirelessness means free from all worldly desires. Bagawa Gita tells us clearly that Tamasic renounciation means doing nothing even your ordeal duties. That is not true renounciation. Sri Krishna says clearly that there are three types of action that can never be given up even we renounce from the world being desireless, i.e. sacrifice (that means worship, devotion to God), charities (Prophet Muhammad tells us that charities do not only limit to money, but every word, deed and thought which beneficial to people is called charities.) The third is penance. These three types of action cannot be forsaken and must keep doing even you are desireless. Desireless does not mean doing nothing. But it also does not mean people should marry. People do not study scripture, but they should not prevent people who want to study scripture. Gita is no 1 scripture for Hindu faith and Vedanta. I am a Muslim but I love Gita also.

One can do anything they want in life (including getting married and having kids) while being in the present. One can remain desire less while serving the poor. The non doership is all that is required to be one with god. This non doership removes the ego and one is therefore unattached to all things while one is involved in the play. The true seeker will ultimately find out that’s there’s no need to renounce from all things. One can have whatever one wishes as long as there’s this non doer ship - therefore all suffrage dissipates and one is absorbed with consciousness where subject and object are no longer distinct from one another.

I doubt whether it is Paramahamsa Yogananda's original teaching or he was misinterpreted. He is a mystic from 20th century.However India has an infinite spiritual lineage. Yogananda's Guru's Guru Lahari Mahashaya was a householder and was direct disciple of Mahavatar Bavaji..Indian Rishis or sages were all married householders. Brahmarishi Vasista, Vishwamitra :Rishi who composed Gayathri mantra ,Gauthama, Brahaspathi,Athri,Agastgya were all Vedic Seers..Remember Vedas are the basic ,profound, infinite source of wisdom of the world

Master just says it's easier to find God when you are single. But he also has said it's not the way just to have God just for yourself. You must share Him with others. So if it's possible to do this in a family all good. But here he's being the realist he always is and saying that is hard because everyone in the family is fighting the pull of the material world.

that is good..but I always wonder how do such enlightened souls know about temptations of worldly desires? Did they go through the same situation in life and got fed-up and became 'realized' or they saw temptations of the world in meditation? I think humans are not expected to live a life of a saint devoid of all worldly possessions..the thing is we must need them without attachment to them..everything we desire is a manifestation of God and because the desires please our senses and God wants us to be happy that way and he appears in all of those objects of desires to give us some temporary happiness while making us feel hollow and empty at the same time so that we don't quit seeking the permanent happiness and peace that his within us and that is Him..

We're not free in what we do because we're not free in what we want. We can't overcome what's deep within us. Everything makes sense but it's not practical for all peoples. I am single but i have responsibilities for my parents . My financial situation is not good. Now tell me not helping my parents ( running away from my responsibilities ) and seeking spritual path , it won't make sense. We all are trapped in such circumstances not matter how badly if somone want to progress on spritual path , sometimes it's not possible. Being single or married comes later You will never understand how much worst it feels when someone stuck in Between spiritual path and his responsibilities for parents. ( If this is god test then I will choose to fail bcs it's my turn now to help my parents financially)

Dear Parth, I've reached 25 now. The spiritual path that worked very well in my life is the path of love and self-surrender. If you develop child like faith in God (source of creation) and practice yoga using whatever resources available to you and seek constant divine guidance, then you don't have to worry about anything else. Everything will happen for your favor and all life happenings become a stepping stone for your spiritual progress. I say this from my personal experience. All spiritual paths ultimately lead to the same Truth. But as long as we have the feeling of ego in us, it is easier to follow the path of love. (I recommend you to watch this playlist: goo.gl/Wk3SLx) However, as an individual seeker, it's upto you to find out the one path that resonates with the spiritual frequency of your heart and also you must stick to that one path with dedication and relentless tenacity.
