Wasting good water without the rear floodgate, alternatively you could replace the front with double height floodgates, it would be more efficient
@mandowarrior123Ай бұрын
That is correct, but he may not have finished it, there is plenty enough at his current size. He could also dam the rear next to the source and swap from 0.5 to 1 at the front which is perhaps the optimal
@KetraarАй бұрын
Yeah the front floodgates would need to be 2 high so it can be set to below 1 for allowing water to flow just at the front and to above 1.0 (possibly even 2.0 just to be safe) so the (bad)water goes out the back.

Biffa, just letting you know you actually did a good job here. Far too many players undervalue a good amount of storage for food and water, and you proved why it is crucial. Even with the mistakes you did do and also acknowledged, you had enough storage to last in essence about 19-21 days of no food income and didn't lose a single beaver! Mathtime! You set your beavers to 0h workdays one day before the badtide started, the badtide was 11 days, and there's another 3-4 days before the harvest comes in. You still had like 200 berries left when the carrots were done, so I'm fairly certain you could've survived another 3-5 days, though it would've been rough. Well done :D Ps. Although I have to say, you saying "I'm not panicking" while 100% panicking was gold xD

just a few suggestions for someone playing the same map on hard mode (1st Hard mode play through) 1. your diagonal dam is leaking, please block with a levee 2. you have too many carrots, remove the lower ones and plant sunflowers, can be eaten directly, more happiness points 3. need more trees. you are using too many logs. once I got stable, I planted in the top right (there is a crater which can be filled via water dumps. loads of trees). 4. you need reservoirs or megadams, I leveed up the top part next to the water source (where you have log storage now). and pump water from there. droughts / bad tides last more than 20 days sometimes. best of luck and thanks for the content.

Badtides are impactful, but not much worse than a drought. In some ways, the early badtides are a relief because they're less bad than droughts. Prep for them mostly the same way you would for a drought - save up extra food and water - and the time to get back to normal is roughly the same. Just also remove access to swimming routes, though. Like, when you're worried about it wiping out your existing crops, it doesn't matter because you have something like 20 days of food saved up.
@CO-ty7nfАй бұрын
Playing the same map and I turned the hours to 24 working hours to get a job done, left it, and my beavers didn’t have time to procreate. Finally at 6 beavers left I realized my mistake and saved it. Just worry about water and food, those are the only things that are absolutely necessary for your beavers to survive. I also keep a few small water tanks and carrot warehouses set to obtain so if I screw up and have few beavers left due to bad planning they’ll still have emergency rations.
@urkerabАй бұрын

Biffa adds a Bad Tide Bank Holiday to the calendar so all the little beavers can go and marvel at the poo water. Yes, start the Mega Dam next episode, Bad Tides and Droughts get longer quicker so better putting resources into the dam rather than more Water Butts. Gonna need loads more wood though... at least you can't die now, if (when knowing Biffa) the worst happens you can just sacrifice your adult beavers.
@stue2298Ай бұрын
I started the same map on hard mod, apart from a couple of incidents running out of water losing 90% of my 70 beavers and did the opposite of biffa and left beavers working 24h and then lost 90% of my beaver again before i noticed. The setup for the bad tide was similar exept had flood gates at the rear aswell ( you will need to keep those platforms at the very rear cause the sluce gate cannot be placed at the edge of the map), then once got sluce gates replaced the flood gates with the sluces. Get the Large Water Pump as soon as you can, they pump water 5 times faster but only use 3 beavers, need sparkly planks and the tapper shack. With the science i would buy the tapper shack first/next and get that built so you get pine resin cause that can be slow to farm. As you can see you don't get long after a drought or bad tide to pump the water you need to survive.
@derekmazeppa1160Ай бұрын
I learned from Skye Storm a way to automate the water source for bad tides using sluices and overhangs, practically doing what you are trying to achieve in pushing the bad tide off of the map. You place the sluices where you have the floodgates and have the overhangs be the top of the corridor in the direction you have the levees :)

36:49 I noticed the flooded area after the dam was smaller. I think because, since the dam in the source is the same height as the terrain, probably half of the water is spilling out of the map. In the next drought you should demolish the floodgates and 1 level of levees and put the 2 levels floodgate.
@fokeyjo19 күн бұрын
I hadn't played this map before, so I had a go at this challenge. I did the lower dam approach, which does seem to be more faff (so good choice with that), but I was protected from badtides by cycle 4 day 2. You just have to work out what are the most important things you need first, and it takes a little practice to work it out - trying after just 2 or 3 normal mode games doesn't cut it!

Survived a Bad Tide without a single Contaminated Beaver. Well done. However, you'll need to remember to close those floodgates before the badtide hits again. You're protected but still capable of human error. What I'd recommend is getting some Irragation Stakes in. This would protect your green lands from the Bad Tide and allow you to still farm and grow trees. But i think you need Pine Resin and Treated Planks for that. In my opinion, that should be your next objective, a bit more future proofing.

I have 3 ideas/notes this time: 2:50 Put a platform in the middle, and a ladder next to it! I think you should be able to stack them as high as you need it. 6:26 That last dam needs to be a levee, otherwise that area will keep flooding. Finally, on the top you don't need 2 rows of levees, instead what you should have built are double floodgates. Right now you are wasting half of your water, even when they are open. And +1 at 16:06 Biffa... you have LADDERS! Why did you build a platform and 2 stairs instead of 2 ladders?

I called it biffa 😂 I did say hard mode on the smallest map = possible short season. Then, in the next video, i commented build a whole lot of medium water tank like your life depends on it. If you can rush the medium tank by cycle 3 you are going to be alright. Cycle 5 is 50% chance of getting bad tide. So cycle 4 you should already be making a dam to avoid the bad tide. Anyway. Goodluck bouncing back biffa. It'll get longer and longer for droughts and badtide. Till you get 30 days. GGs Biffa :) Try again on diorama if you don'tmake it. 😅
@zyebormАй бұрын
You're about to cross the threshold where it's not having droughts, drought very rapidly becomes the "normal" then you have 3 days of water. Think of it more like you have "pumping season" and "building season". You want way way more water pumpers. On the small map I had 20 pumps going with a population of 50 or so. You've got 3 days to get enough water for the next 30. During pumping season *everything* stops, everybody pumps at max rate, 16 hour work days etc. You want haulers to move the water for the pumpers so they can stay pumping. If you manage your job priorities right you can just set haulers to high during pumping season and unpause all the water pumps set at maximum priority. Then during normal season just pause the pumps and set haulers to low priority. You won't be able to store enough water in reservoirs to last 30 days until you can build mega dams to keep your crops green. So you may want to look at building 3x3 water (so 4x4 total size) irrigation boxes with fluid dumps to keep your crops green. Go a little bigger and you can put a lido in from memory. You can store a lot more water in a large tank than you can in a pretty large dam. Wouldn't suggest trying to keep the whole area you currently have filled, it'll be too much evaporation. Also when you are building far away like that when you built the dam set the nearby storage to acquire so the haulers bring logs up and the builders don't have to walk as far. The haulers move twice as much wood as a builder. Same principle for your industrial area. Put small warehouses with the supplies the buildings need, set them to acquire and your haulers will bring the materials in so the workers don't need to walk far to get the stuff. Hard mode is all about efficiency. Keep an eye on the productivity of all your buildings. You won't need floodgates on the back side of your badwater off the map bit, dam pieces will do fine there. You will eventually wind up replacing the floodgates at the front with sluices at ground level probably and just sealing up the badwater discharge path.

I did the same map on hard. Built the wonder and all with just 100 beavers. now that you got a rudimentary badtide diversion you should focus of extra water reserves. What i did was make a massive leavy at the waterfall and tnt much of the cliffside of it to store more water cause you will get up to 30 days of drought and badtides and you'll want that extra reserve for water. You'll want to be able to store up to 6000 water and highly recommend building the larger water pumps ASAP now. Because it will get worse
@zyebormАй бұрын
on small maps fluid dumps with levees is probably more efficient. You can store a whole mess of water volume in a large tank, medium tank is not bad. But you use less wood overall building 4x4 levees and a water dump than you do building levees to hold 300 water. Moar Pumpers! On the other small map I had the entire water surface area covered in pumps (iron teeth though so no large pumps) over 20 pumps for a population of 70. The entire population was devoted to pumping for the 3 day pumping season between the 30 day droughts.
@jorybrown6714Ай бұрын
@zyeborm that's one way to do it. I mentioned it because that's how I 'won' that map on hard difficulty. Larger pumps are far more efficient and you only need a few. Had multple industrial water storage and several medium ones with small ones around the map. and that whole cliffside dammed up right will keep everything hydrated throughout droughts and badtides.

No need to pause and unpause so many buildings. Really water is the only thing that will need to be paused and unpaused until sluice gates. Make hauling post lowest priority and whack it up to 10 beavers. Any extra beavers will haul. Inventor hut could be second to last priority. Also for the woodcutters, you could have one second highest priority, one normal priority, one lower etc. same with other duplicate jobs.
