@@rademita Greetings from Europe, here we have lowered rims for kids and kids play with a women’s basketball. Solution is pretty simple, kids (male & female) play on lowered rims. When boys turn to men they change to the higher rim (because that’s when the genetical differences kick in). This solves the issue of women having to adjust to a small ring, because they never played on anything else . Finally teen boys always love playing on smaller hoops cause now then can put their friends on posters.

I have to disagree. The argument against lowering the rims because "it'll be too hard to implement" is so weak in my opinion. Most gyms and schools, especially new ones, have adjustable rims already. The hoop that you buy for your backyard is also almost always adjustable. The only problem would be outdoor courts. It's also not like women always played with a smaller ball and shorter 3pt distance either, they both had to be implemented and there naturally was adjustment periods. The WNBA literally does not make any profit. You can't just wait for the sport to grow organically because it might never grow to where it should be. Cant' just wait around and hope the league gets filled with once in a generation superstars like Caitlin Clark even if that would be awesome

Most men who watch sports in general love it because of the competition, aggression, power, ego, confidence and sheer dominance. That’s why we love poster dunks and it also happens often. You can KZbin 20/30 minutes of poster dunks just this season and the season is just over halfway.

Well, that's a subjective notion. To think that people will tune in just to watch girls dunk is quite a perfect world scenario. Even with men, the dunk contest is only watched when the marquee dunkers enter the contest. This was also a contest that was scrapped for a time in the 1990s, because the better dunkers were no longer participating, and this made the quality not great. Hypothetically speaking, the likelihood of a female dunk contest garnering more viewership would be a reality early on, before the same scrutiny that the women's game already faces, resurfaces. Lowered rims, less athletic, will eventually be considered a second rate dunk contest, because right now, the casual fans are mostly men... Rather than trying to make the game more appealing to dudes, the WNBA needs to find a way to appeal to women.

The only way the WNBA can actually gain traction is to have a reality tv show, where there’s manufactured drama, and the in-game calls should be less lenient on the produced drama. Like when Caitlin Clark gets in the league, they should be already creating the narrative that her and Sabrina have beef. They should have stylists for pregame tunnel player entrances. Nobody really slays the pre-game walk-ins that hard enough to actually break the internet.

Lowering the rims to 9FT will have a positive ripple effect on the WNBA. Doing so, up and coming women's athlete will work even harder on athleticism and will make the game even more exciting. You'll start seeing more dunks, posters, alley-oops.... this will draw a LARGER crowd to their games because the entertainment value will have increased. Basic math.

It’s not just about the dunking. It’s the overall excitement. NBA just has more excitement. WNBA games are low scoring slow pace compared to the NBA. WNBA needs to promote the league better. Increase the action in the game it doesn’t just have to be dunking. I was watching the Warriors vs Suns game last night there was no poster dunk but the game itself was very entertaining.

The reason you don't want to lower the rim is EGO. The most laughable part about this and what that nuffy from Gils Arena said is that you all tell us how bad the game is in how you explain it (which we already know and is why we DO NOT WATCH IT). So, every possible explanation of the product being sold by the sellers is literally talking the product down. "We can't dunk" "There is barely any dunks anyway". Yeah, we know. Thats why the product is not turning a profit. If women truly wanted to make a product, a single soul would turn up for or tune into watch. They would stop arguing every single valid point put forward, start actually listening to the people who pay the bills (fans) and deliver a prpduct that a fan might actually enjoy.

I've played ball my entire life, and if i only have 2 nights a week to watch basketball, why would I ever watch boring wnba. Understanding fundamentals doesn't make it all of a sudden fun to watch? Lowering the rim is the best suggestion for this product. It's already using a smaller ball and shorter 3 point line. Why do people get confused about lowering the rim? By your logic it should be impossible to find a court that has WNBA regulated 3 point line so how do women practice? It's a league that's been going for 3 decades and has never turned a profit. It's a welfare League subsidised by the NBA. People are suggesting what would make them want to watch it more. I think it isn’t that bad of an idea to lower the rims, for instance in volleyball the net is lower for women and that makes a lot of sense since they physiologically cannot jump as high or are not as tall as men. And i think that would make sense in basketball too. I get the argument about the gyms having to adjust or just random parks but I do believe it is an area that could be explored. (Obviously 9 feet is way too low btw)

My opinion is 9'6" would help, but it wouldn't be completely different. On top of that it wouldn't really be detectable to the naked eye of the fans watching, so they'd just see higher scores and more aerial artistry.

@@pittland44 9'6' is not enough. The standing reach difference between NBA and WNBA is likely more than the height difference which is more than 6inches. The vertical jump difference is something like 8 inches on average. 1 foot would need to be the minimum drop to see an increase that would draw fans.

To your first point: You do not need to revamp every single hoop in the world. Not sure what indoors gyms you played in, but the ones I grew up (like the Y) around with all were adjustable already. They needed the adjustable hoops for the kids league, and it was a quick adjustment between sessions since there was another league right after that needed 10 foot rims. Even the hoop in my backyard that was probably from Walmart was adjustable. And what was most fun reason to adjust it? So we can dunk with my friends. A lot of us were not strong or tall enough to dunk on 10 foot rims yet. Which leads to the next point: Acknowledging the difference between women and men. Women and men are different biologically, and that needs to be acknowledged. Calling these difference as "handicaps" is degrading and simply incorrect. It is making the game more catered for women. Women already use a smaller ball. They have a closer 3 point arc. But drawing the line at lowering the rim? You said yourself most women do not have the same vertical as men. Lowering the rim can cater to a women's game. It gives more women, more opportunity for other skills to be developed such as being more aggressive at the rim; that includes dunking. The game with lower rims already exists through kids basketball. They play on lower nets to cater for their game. Imagine a 5 year-old trying to put an orange ball through a hoop that's 10 feet in the air. There are VERY few that can at 5 years old, but majority can't; just like most women can't dunk a 10 foot rim, but a very minute group of them can. Lowering the net gives more of them the opportunity to do the same. Gives them more options, expand their game, make it more exciting because there are those options now. Last couple examples where it works already in the real world: - Womens volleyball. They play on a lower net than mens and though each of their game is different, it still is catered for and optimized so most women can excel in it. - Men's 9ft rim height league: I have personally seen more highlights from these types of leagues than the WNBA on social media as of late. Why? Because it is exciting. It gave the average man the opportunity to do things that the genetically gifted NBA players are doing on 10 foot rims. More options, more opportunity for highlights, more ways to bring in the casual fan.

Organically I agree, while female college players are turning into what men’s use to be when they stayed 3-4 yrs. Then we could invest in the players while watching them grow. I honestly don't understand why it's such an absurd thing to lower the basket for women when in fact the ball is smaller but the hoop is the same size, the 3 point line is closer than the NBA, it makes perfect sense to lower the basket, the outdoor hoops thing doesn't make any sense, there are already courts with lower hoops for kids so if they wanted they could build new ones, if actually someone watched the WNBA maybe?! and in any case basketball is an indoor sport and actually it's not that hard to find a lower than regulation outdoor hoop, they're the majority practically, and why on earth did they invent height adjustable hoops if you have to necessarily play with 10-foot hoops?! I think anyone with a little common sense would understand that, in volleyball they've been at it for a long time already, dunking is probably the most spectacular part of the game along with the ankle breakers and spectacular passes at least to me, no one would pay to see an hour of pick and rolls, bricks and free throw which are the fundamentals of the game by the way no matter the gender, and most importantly no one is going to judge you if you dunk on a 9 foot basket rather than 10, if you make a dunk over someone's head it's going to be spectacular regardless, if you think about it that's exactly why I don't think they're going to enforce the 4 point line in the NBA, because otherwise everyone would start shooting from midcourt actually making it a much less fun sport to watch, maybe the WNBA should actually implement the 4 point line if you don't want to lower the hoop, just to say...

The average vertical jump for Women in the WNBA is 12 inches and the average height is like 5 feet 9 inches. The men in the NBA is atleast 6 feet 3-5 inches and with the average vertical of 25 inches.

Honestly I feel like lowering the rim needs to happen to make woman’s basketball more exciting, I would go as low as 8.5 or even 8 foot. That would definitely allow for poster dunks. As far as revenue goes I’ve always heard that the WNBA doesn’t turn a profit each season? someone can correct me if I’m wrong. In school we used to play on park rims all the time that were 9 or 8 foot and your shot adjusts. Every one of us still hit the same number of shots as normal. You’re always going to have haters who will say “it’s not that impressive at 8 feet”. But the rest of us know that woman have different builds then men. Games on 8 foot hoops are mad fun and it’s fun as hell to watch. Personally I don’t watch the WNBA because it lacks the excitement of the NBA and I think an 8 foot hoop would make me more likely to watch the WNBA. Period. No hate, no disrespect. But in the end it’s a choice that the WNBA, Woman’s College Basketball and the woman hoopers, will have to make. The rest of us can just voice our thoughts and opinions.

Men are on average 6" taller, jump 4" higher, add wingspan.... that is way over a foot. At 10ft these amazing women do not look athletic. 9ft hoops would bring excitement and fans. Blocks would look nastier, better shooting form and of course dunks. Women are absolutely worth upgrading hoops at all parks, schools and church's. Hoops are readily availlable. How many women would play volleyball if spikes, blocks and jump serves were not possible with higher nets? Think of all the little girls that womens basketball is missing out on. At 9ft my college hooper would absolutely have poster dunks, she isnt to proud to realize women are different than men. She would love to play on a rim that showcased her athletic ability!

It’s basic math or accounting. If the wnba is making deficit year after year you can’t pay the players more. The same way a company can’t pay their employees more if they don’t turn a profit unless you want to run said companies to the ground. The percentage of revenues is a mute point it’s easy to understand that because the sheer numbers of the NBA are so much bigger than the wnba it makes it easier to allocate more percentage points to the salaries. The problem that the wnba has is their fixed costs when you open the facilities you will need the same amount of equipment managers, maintenance crew, announcers, referees, janitors etc. The fact that those costs are allocated to a lower amount of eyeballs with more than likely a lower ticket price and lower tv revenues makes the application of a fixed percentage of revenue comparable to the NBA impossible to withstand for the wnba (they are already subsidize by the nba to be able to continue to operate do you know any companies that subsidizes their competitors to keep them in business but at this point since they are not profitable I think it is more on the league and the players to find ways to insure the perennity of the league after 25 years if you did not get it right you need to revisit your business model). It’s not a knock on equality or anything like that it’s the same principle that applies to male modeling you do not attract as much revenue therefore the piece of the pie that you can get is much smaller.

Changing the court for college, and WNBA players won't be hard at all. For little kids not playing in gyms, yeah that could be harder, but for those playing for money, the schools and leagues can make those adjustments even for practice purposes. Lowering the rim to 9.5 or 9 feet would allow the few who do dunk in games to dunk with more authority and creativity. Then those who technically can dunk and do it in practice but NEVER do it in games, they would do it in games. Thus making the game more exciting. Even high schools could lower the rim, but for sure in college and even more so in the WNBA it shouldn't be a problem AT ALL.

Womens game is not built on skill and fundamentals. Try watching it and those things she described, don't happen. I actually watch it. I havent seen anyone run off 2 screens and take one step for a 3. The original wnba with swoopes, cooper, Staley, leslie etc was much better than the current version. This is my first time watching this channel and she is very uninformed. Why post this video, yet dont even understand revenue and revenue sharing...that is the whole point. Not emotion. MPJ is correct. Every other sport has different rules, fields and procedures for men and women bc they are different. Baseball/ softball, volleyball, etc. Not only should the rim be lowered, court made smaller to match the average size of women players. What they are doing now isnt working. So try something else or dissolve the wnba. Also, you can't be an advocate for something if you're uninformed. Please "dead" forcing wbna players onto nba fans. They have their own all star weekend.

Lowering the rim isn’t just to have crazy dunks but just some dunking in general bring some type of excitement to the wnba what he says it pretty much true but the wnba don’t want to accept it since the wnba has been created they haven’t generated a profit so there isn’t more money to give out there basically getting paid on the nba dime

Your point about women still being unable to dunk on lowered rims isn't a bad thing. You already stated that rarity of a highlight dunk is part of what makes it spectacular. Women dunking on a 9 foot rim would still be spectacular because it would still be rare.

It depends on what type of dunk you're referring to. Ashlyn Watkins for South Carolina did a one handed stuff on regulation height pretty comfortably in game this year, and that didn't really go viral. The following week, it was all but forgotten. People put a lot of emphasis on dunking, when it hasn't moved the needle for the women's game when they do dunk.

I think this is a tired conversation. I don't watch the NBA just for the highlight play. I don't watch the NBA anymore because to me, nobody is trying anymore. It's just about making the most money for a lot, and to be fair... if you can get the bag, then get it. This is just my opinion though. My beliefs are not law in the matter, any more than Porter Jr's suggestion. Now I'm not saying Porter doesn't support women's basketball, but I'm led to believe he doesn't follow it that close for him to say what he said. There are women who can already dunk at regulation height, but so what. It'll be cool to see a girl do a 360 dunk, but having a gimmick isn't going to save the WNBA. There is no clear leader of the WNBA. There's not that one person that hands down is considered 'The One.' Where is that marketable superstar that even the casual fan can recognize? Perhaps Clark's popularity can be that Magic/Bird equivalent for the WNBA? You need household names, not gimmicks.

This WNBA topic is kind of pointless, certain sports are just not entertaining to watch for different genders, and certain sports are in the middle where both are just as fun and entertaining. Example, mens basketball is entertaining to watch and women's basketball is not. Women's figure skating or volleyball, is fun to watch and men are not. Then there are the sports in the middle that both are exciting to watch, example Tennis. America is in such a divide, they make the simplest thing someone says a hate. The guy wasn't trying to say y'all are not athletic l, he was just suggesting something that might make the game more exciting thus bring in more viewers which will in turn bring in more revenue and you will get paid more. This is why the revenue will not increase because anything someone suggest will then be labeled feminism.

WNBA does not make the adjustments to lure in more viewers, they will continue to not turn a profit for the NBA, who funds them every year. No one claimed lowering the rims fixes all of the issues of people not caring to see WNBA games. However, it does help to create a better opportunity for more highlight finishes at the rim. As you said Rachel, female players are not as athletic as their male counterparts, so they rely on fundamentals. The problem is, people consider that boring and will not watch it when the NBA offers that and a lot more. Suggestions provided by people are to help improve that situation but of course the WNBA players become offended and do not want to hear it. That's fine, just enjoy having to play basketball in other leagues, besides the WNBA, the entire year to make a decent living. Just stop crying about lack of pay. You even have WNBA players with OnlyFans accounts now. Come on now.

I consider myself a progressive guy, but with an edge. So I feel like I am unlike a lot of people who are so willing to shit on women's sports. And I am a girl Dad too. I just don't understand why women in basketball and soccer gets so offended over slightly smaller goals.. maybe even a smaller pitch, too? Look at women's golf. It is has been and still is in a good place with them playing off ladies tees. Juniors plays off junior tees, etc when required for comps. There is nothing wrong with it. But in other sports, some women have to lose their minds and feel like they're being insulted. The WBNA product can only get better with change.
