@IronTorch205 жыл бұрын
This is probably the most fair analysis of Trubisky, that showed his strengths and weaknesses pretty well. Accuracy is probably the single biggest issue, especially deep, for him. His lower body lagged behind his upper body in college. This was very pronounced when he was throwing to his left, hence the nickname, Mitchell Zoolander (SO to Schlegdaddy). We'll see if Nagy can fix that. Decision making is a tricky one, there's a reason most quarterbacks who are one year starters in college don't make it in the NFL. They need to see more coverages and you could argue that the mental reps are more important than the physical. He did improve as the year went on, and as he has a better grasp on the offense, hopefully it improves more. He was also extremely inconsistent in college, and that hasn't really changed in the NFL. The good news is that Nagy is probably the best coach for him, he has terrific intangibles, a good offensive line, and plenty of talent around him. Let's see what happens this year.

First off, die hard Bears fan. I think you've found something there. My first impression of Mitch when he came to the Bears was that he seemed a bit reserved, like he wasn't sure how he should behave and didn't want to put a foot wrong. That could be because of a lack of experience and/or confidence which might be showing up on the field and what you are seeing. When things are good and there's time to think about it, then that when Mitch over thinks things and he probable doesn't feel confident? But when it's time to deliver there's not time to think and the instincts kick in and he gets the job done. Which seems to suggest he just really needs to just realize that he's where he's meant to be and be himself (or just "be you"). The fact that the team seems to be commenting a lot on Mitch's confidence levels is probably a good thing? Either he is more comfortable and relaxed and not thinking about what he should be doing or the team is trying to give him more confidence to do that. Anyhow, thanks for the video. I really enjoyed the insight. Looking forward to more of it in the future.

You will probably never read this comment, but I am going to offer it up any way your analysis of Trubisky was spot on, even down to his mechanics I have suffered through two games so far and many of the problems you pointed out are still there, trust me he will never grasp the nuances of the position,having played football myself all through high school as quarterback and defensive back, I know a few things about the game his reads pre and post snap are still poor,Trubisky can only play sandlot football where he doesn't have to think and process, but simply react, that is who he is and always will be.

Excellent analysis, I’m impressed. I’ve always heard about QB mechanics and accurate passing. But Brett shows exactly why those passes were overthrown.
@timothyswarthout5 жыл бұрын
Trubisky seems to step way to the left with his front foot when he throws. Which seems to me, is a main cause of the lack of a good hip rotation. If he is stepping more towards his target, it would force him to activate his hips more on throws in order to properly open up.

I don't know. He was plenty accurate in college. He's likely never going to be Manning in terms of mechanics unless he plays 10+ years and needs to clean it up somewhere along the line when the athleticism fades. But right now he's a grip/rip ultra athletic guy. You can absolutely live, and win with that. And he's a straight killer when the pressure is on. With Nagy's play calling teams should be, and are not exactly excited to see the Bears on their schedule. Factor in the defense and teams have been outright quitters. Both the Rams and the Bucs wanted nothing of it and other teams looked like they were about to quit.
@kalvin485 жыл бұрын
R T but nfl franchises will not wait for a player to get to elite level even for four years. That’s why he said he doesn’t know if he will end up being a backup or a great qb. His mechanics are sooo bad it hurts the team in the long run, I seriously doubt he will do the same magic consistently this coming season. The nfl has some really smart people to make him look stupid. If the do another 12-4 season well, the bears are in another qb problem for the future like the other guy that sucked for many years and was paid allot of money
@bob76445 жыл бұрын
Kelvin Ankoh where your wrong is that Mitch has more good than bad. He started one season in college. The guy is the most inexperienced Qb in the league aside from the rookies. This is the first season mitch has had the same coach over an offseason. So logically he will be better. Also if he stays the same he’s still good enough to win a ring. Hence Eli Manning. But my prediction is mitch wins bears at least 2 rings. He’s got the “it” factor. Perfect QB for Chicago.

Amazing video Brett. When you said that Trubisky is great when the pressures on and terrible when there's no pressure and everything's going right, that really made sense to me. This is something I noticed, but really couldn't put it into words before now for whatever reason. In the 1st Vikings game last year, the dude was god awful the first 3 quarters and making terrible throws and reads, but late in the 4th, the was creating offense with his legs nonstop, whether just rushing for the 1st down or escaping pressure and then finding a guy was after the play broke down. That's what so frustrating about playing against him, is that when you should have bottled up with nowhere to go, that when he hurts you. It's not like Russell Wilson where you expect him to make something happen no matter what. And not expecting him to make stuff happen over and over again on 3rd downs late in the game makes if ten times as frustrating when he actually does.

Great observation. You stated the problem at the start so don't be confused. That *is* a horrible lack of hip rotation. Also, you can see in his feet where he's beginning his throw. He is using his arms to create distance almost always. In golf, that is the difference between an amateur and a professional. That lack of rotation is the cause of all inconsistencies. Amateurs never learn and keep that hip rotation so it's impossible to create/recreate 1 swing to be comfortable and confident with. You create swing speed and accuracy with hip rotation and follow through. But instead, they try to muscle the ball out. Even after multiple sessions most of my students tend to return back to a bad swing. This is almost always due to an incorrect muscle memory that they do not keep corrected. This is why fundamentals are crucial to learn from the start. Think of Tiger Woods. He has spent a decade rebuilding his new swing. Going from #1 to something like #1,079 before finally being back to #1. Tiger's a pro golfer that can afford the time before and during his swing, hell during his career, to do so. This type of work is not something a starting QB has the luxury of and also retain their position. M. Trubrisky will essentially have to completely start over as a ball thrower. Which he cannot do in a single off season. He will have to learn a new throw with this rotation as well as everything else inside of it--arm tuck, grip, flight, even accuracy--because they all will function differently. He will have to recreate and work on his new form during a regular season or three, while being bad at it, and NEVER regressing back to what he's used to like he's been doing. He does this because as a big guy, he can create distance, and a type of accuracy, the wrong way without needing to make those changes. This is why you see him being worse while he's the most comfortable. That is the throw he's comfortable with. And with everything else he has to think about, keeping what he's learned is never on his mind. When you're 160 yards out it's easier to make your sure-shot 8 iron that you know the swing and distance of rather than to correct it and eventually have that same shot with a 60° wedge. I do not think he will make those changes and keep his starting position, therefore he will not make the changes. He will stagnate somewhere in between. I hope this comparison is helpful and makes sense.

Just some notes as I watch. * I think the interception against the Rams has a good amount to do with him returning that night from a shoulder injury that took him out for two games. Also, comparing a second year quarterback to a seasoned veteran Peyton Manning is a bit of a stretch. * Going from Joshua Belemy, Tanner Gentry and Kendall Wright playing in the slot to a pure speed player like Anthony Miller essentially throws away any timing that he learned his rookie season. Look no further than Aaron Rodgers with every receiver not named Devonte Adams last season. Not to mention that Ant spent a good amount of time injured during the season, so timing was off a big chunk of the season. * I think a young quarterback playing a bit too juiced when things are firing on all cylinders and playing outstanding under pressure is a GREAT problem to have. Too often, young QBs look good in ideal situations and drown under pressure. Playing well in ideal situations seems like a fairly easy fix, especially from an Andy Reid deciple. * Mitch barely had three seconds on a developing route 15 yards down field vs. The Eagles. C'mon now. Even the play where he did hit AR down the field at the end of the game, he had even less time. I respect your opinions and there was a ton of truth in this video. Mitch isn't perfect and has room to grow, but I think he gets held to an incredibly high standard. His first season was spent being mentored by a checked out Mike Glennon and post butt fumble Mark Sanchez. He was also playing in a Dowell Loggins offense and a John Fox coached team. I watch every game and rarely miss a snap. The growth from Mitch in only one season, learning a brand new playbook, with a offensive minded coaching staff and four new starters at wide receiver and tight end, has me thinking he hasn't come close to reaching his ceiling. Like I said I really enjoy your video, but I think it's a bit early to make this video. Mitch has an unbelievable motor and has a coach who is 100% entrusted him with his high standard offense. I think by 36 starts, we'll have a lot better of an idea about who Mitchell Trubisky is. Keep up the great work! While I do disagree with points of your videos, it's never a lack of a good argument behind it.

As a Bears fan and trained football coach with peers who currently coach on the Rams and Saints... Trubisky should change his name to Matt Nagy so the appropriate person gets the credit when he does something well. If you draw it up for him and he doesn't have to problem-solve in real time, he's viable as a starter like Mariota. I saw him play four games in college, but never saw anything that warranted how/what people felt about & projected onto him. Your analysis beautifully underscores Matt Nagy's talent as an Offensive Coach, and how good the Bears Personnel is... Mitch has great measurables and a reserved personality. Guys like him always have people project positive traits onto him. He's Mariota, whatever that means to you... Beautiful, high-quality video and breakdown. This was an absolute treat!

I’m curious as to whether his inconsistency is related to concentration and /or anxiety? I have ADHD and anxiety one of my symptoms is requiring consistent stimulation, and when things get regulation, and just about hitting the numbers, I can get inconsistent, and make crazy errors due to an unconscious habit of trying to make things more difficult in order to continue stimulating my mind, to help sustain concentration. However, when it comes to the crunch in things I am competent in and the pressure is there? Watch out! I know what works, and the pressure is stimulation enough. Just a thought, and thanks for a terrific channel!

Trubisky is athletic and I think his timing and decision making are off when he has time due to that. Not worrying about the mechanics (yet) but he tends to rush his plays when he's not under pressure. So it's possible that his athletic instinct does interfere since when he has to make a play he's more fluid and relaxed, or committed to that play. Last season was his first real season and hopefully with that experience under his belt..the coming season should be better.

Imo, there's a reason Ryan Pace traded up in the draft to take him earlier than projected... Killer instinct, fearless in big moments, leadership ability, and a respect and understanding of what Bears football is all about. @bolbyballinger5 жыл бұрын
@@xavier4396 I'd also question his approach to depth. Let's say that Mitch Trubisky pans out and Khalil Mack continues to be an OT's worst nightmare. That'll be great, but they gave up a lot of draft capital to get them and it all happened one year after another. Once people start leaving due to cap space there likely won't be a decent replacement for some of them. I like the Khalil Mack trade, and if Trubisky works out that trade will be fine as well, but doing both of them back to back has left the cupboard extremely bare. If their next draft isn't above average, which will be hard to achieve without a first round pick, their championship window is going to be open for just three maybe four years at most. But then again, at least they'll have had a window.

The list of quarterbacks who had athleticism as their biggest asset is not a list you want to be on . . . Rodgers and Wilson don't have it as their big asset because they could be great without it, but guys like Cam Newton and the always injured Michael Vick are the BEST to have it as their main thing making it a depressingly low ceiling. If a qb takes off and runs a bunch it's usually because he's failed in his reads. The less upset you are about Brett not talking about Trubisky's athleticism the better.
