Your cat woke up just time at the end of the video! I think China's reform should also include lifting the level of China's aesthetic aspect. There should be more and more reknown Chinese architects. I think it's necessary for an advance nation to have beautiful design of cities, buildings, parks, cars, and fashion. Even the trees planted all around the cities and sidewalks. The trees along the sidewalk in Puxi are good example, do not look aesthetically pleasing. Everything, including city signs, has to be made and planned to be beautiful.

for me, modern china is much better because i am living in the present and the country has progressed tremendously and there has not been any civil war. on the other hand, if i were to live in a turbulent era, then the answer is no. love from canada.

I love the modern when it perseveres the old! Wouldn't want to live without the old! In my mind I'd like to live in the old but the perks (not all of them) of the modern are so convenient (like watching this on KZbin). Love you guys both for what you are doing with this modern perk and how you bring the old and present times to us this way!

@@GoYvon I read the books when I was a teenager. Since then I read the book by 3 different authors. I watched the "San Guo Yan Yi" Tv series. I really like this historic event, just like one of my friends who love to read books about WW2

Hi Yvon, I have watched quite a few of your videos. I find that you are truthful of presenting what you see the way it is: The goods, The bad, and the ugly. the good: great improvement of living standard. The bad and the ugly, will take sometimes before the general population catch up to change the bad and old habits to match the new environment. I think. Since you are in Beijing, do you see food banks, homeless people living on the street.? We have quite a few of them in Canada: food banks and homeless people.

China advancement in technology brought many new frontier for people. High speed train and drone gives us the opportunity to travel further and higher for new viewpoint never seen before from the ground.

I had heard that Kaifeng was the beginning/end of the silk road? We were told that's why China's Jewish population was located there. Jewish traders from the middle east settled there, along with Muslims. Sadly the Jewish population of Kaifeng has dwindled, but there is still a thriving Muslim population. Also, when we visited Beijing in 2006 before the Olympics, the hutongs were all in the process of being demolished, and they were not beautiful places like where you live. There was one touristy "hutohg" with western bars, not at all traditional. The existing hutongs we visited were narrow, dusty alleys where old men in t-shirts would grill lamb sticks for you :)

Xi'an (known as Xiang'an) was the start of the Silk Road (as far as I know). Kaifeng is much farther to the east.

Great content, good question..new or old? Both are important! if the new are useful, functional,efficient and aesthetic; while the old is well restored and not tacky. Then it is win win! The old is China’s heritage, must be respected and not ignored. The new is reality! 👍🇨🇳
