Hahaha! However motorcycling can be a truly intimate thing - in the sense, it's only the two of you who are sharing the moment. So maybe not use it as a pick-up line but something to discuss as you get more into the relationship.

The world has been wired in a way to make us believe that our pursuit towards our passion is selfish. It becomes especially more selfish if the person/people we live with do not enjoy that pursuit as much as we do. Having said that, there is a fine line between selfishness that does us good and selfishness that can be damaging to those around us if our approach isn’t mindful enough. Perhaps it ends at that.

I feel so fortunate with regards to this.. My partner was highly interested in learning to ride (her brother too is a rider so the fascination started from home) ...so i taught her the basics on my R15.. then I went on to buy a Ninja 300 while she rode my R15 along with me with proper gear from heel to toe.. We did a lot of duo and group rides together.. finally she upgraded to an R3.. and now we plan on going for tours together on our own bikes. Yes the R15 did fall many a times during her learning days but I always te told her that falling is how you will learn from your mistakes.. Yes, I did get frustrated many a times when she made mistakes but I would tell myself to calm down and that it would be worthwhile in the end.. And I can assure you it sure is. Moreover, now I don't have to worry so much about scraping the underbelly of the N300 because the pillion weight is not there.. so yeah.. kinda selfish of me.. 😂

Shumi! Such a great topic and I appreciate your take on it. As a woman rider, a wife , daughter , mom of 2 and daughter in law, I have fought to ensure that motorcycling is understood to be an intrinsic part of my life( to a very supportive family at that! ) However, underlying tones of it being selfish, inconvenient & tolerated are rife! 😬 “ Why can’t we just all go in the car like a normal family?” Well, “because Mom is selfish and wants to ride her motorcycle though the hills, feel the wind and just basically , enjoy the alone time” . There, I said it - I’m selfish! 😀

Have been following your articles since your days at business standard......in fact I used to get only the Saturday edition of BS just for the weekend supplement which had the last page dedicated to "motoring"....(and also chess by devangshu dutta on the inner page).........it was after reading one such article over 20 yrs ago( titled "laurels and RD") that I eventually bought an RD350......and some yrs later, had a RE500 classic...........and now have been without a motorcycle for over 6yrs.........and in my mid forties!! Hey Shumi, I love this video, I agree each and every point you said. While buying Duke 390 2017 my wife asked why such a costly bike you want. But after riding together to various places for almost 3+ years, now we have a small kid, my wife feels very happy about moments we spent together on the bike. And thinks, when can we ride like that once again. Memories are the most valuable things. When we have age on our side we can do certain things, and definitely motorcycling is one of those things which shouldn't be missed in my opinion.
@ApurvJyotirmay3 жыл бұрын
To answer Shumi's question, yes motorcycling is selfish. I acknowledge the fact anytime I go for a ride. I know an unfortunate accident is inevitable, risks are just too high. I try to minimize that by using my gears all the time. I try to ride responsibly as much as I can do, and I avoid riding when I feel I'm too emotional for it. I don't appreciate people going into motorcycling without considering the risks. It's your life whatever you wanna do with it, but understand that death is still better than having your spine damaged or losing a limb. People need to understand the risks of riding. Take a calculated decision

It's true what you said about couples riding together on different bikes. I and my husband do that a lot in last 7 years. But recently i met with an accident. Almost dead. Bedridden for past three months with major injuries. With five surgeries already done. We had a proper gear like you said(alpnister and bell helmet, knee guard all) . But what i didn't expect is this big a accident. The risk was always at the back of my mind , where the fun and aderaline was always first. I read somewhere,"two wheels move soul" that's what happened. So now I want some advices on such accidents and how to cope up as well. Ppl /mostly my family members said , I am selfish and that's why this happened- the accident. Because we delayed having kids and all we did was biking all these years. They say if we had kids, we wouldn't be biking and would have avoided this accident that almost killed me. So m saying, i dont regret biking. I love it. Jus be prepared for anything. Nothing is under your control completely. Even bikes sometimes don't. But that doesn't mean you haven't lived a amazing selfish life 😅 like he said everybody does one day, how you lived matters more. That doesn't mean you have to go rash. Means you go at your own pace, with your own thoughts. Bikes are bliss. Thank you for this video. Glad to know your thoughts. As always powerdrift rocks !!!

Motorcycling brings a whole new perspective to travelling, but when you think of a pillion during your road trip many would prefer bus , train or car. It’s more about comfort vs experience. I strongly believe travelling on your bike makes you to join hands with the forces of nature thereby makes you attentive and enjoy the experience along with memory creation. If you have a partner who prioritise experience over comfort then there is no need to worry about being selfish.
