I was reading an ancient Hebrew text, and came across a term I wasn't familiar with. After some research, the best I could muster was something to the effect of "Cheerusalem" and now we know what it means.

Thanks for sharing. I agree that a lot of games are just a bunch of mechanics and it may not matter what a player does on a turn or the choice is obvious (lacking much of a dec;ision space). Also, some games are multi-person solitaire, some games are point salads.... I guess every game can be dissected down to the mechanics. If so, what makes a game mechanic fun? Maybe that's in the eye of the beholder? Anyway, there's a lot that can be talked about with games. As you, I just pointed out some aspects. Putting all of the above aside, one important aspect of most games is theme. And, if a player doesn't enjoy the theme or doesn't understand the theme? I guess the game may not be as fun? The theme of this game is based on events in the Bible, which most Jews or Christians would be familiar with. Just the cliff notes - The Jewish state was invaded by the Babylonians in ancient times. Jerusalem being the capital, was sacked. The temple was destroyed, along with the walls surrounding Jerusalem. Not only that, but a lot of the citizens were then taken to Babylon. Very bad times. Time passed and Ezra and Nehemiah (with Jews that wanted to) were allowed to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and city walls. Which was done. Both were huge to the Jewish nation.

We exist in one of the best times for board gaming because the volume of games coming out every year is so immense that anyone can find the perfect game for them and the bar has been raised for quality so high that games that would have been brilliant a decade ago, are now derivative and boring. There was a portion of the video I edited out where we talked about theme and how even though it didn't resonate with us, we LOVE that this game attempted one that doesn't see exposure in board games and how it was actually what made us try the game in the first place. I don't give a shit about bird watching, but I was enchanted by the idea of a game using that theme in Wingspan. Maybe with more historical knowledge the theme would have resonated more, but it did just feel like mechanical drudgery to me.

@@TabletopTurtle I find it funny and very inconsistent when you get board game social media people who try to make you feel like a piece of crap for playing a game with some element of "colonization" but for some reason a viking raid mechanic is ok, because the viking raids were so peaceful and beautiful! But I did hear good things about looot
