Back in the late 70's when I was a teenager mounting tires, changing oil, or installing batteries, The gen 3 stingray's where pretty common. I would have customers come to have them worked on regularly. One thing I saw a lot was the rear diff cover mounting ears busted off. Your Stingray has the modular iron diff cover that fixes that problem. It looks like your modular iron diff cover has four mounting ears on it instead of the stock two, which means you can have four mounting points for it, in order to make it even more stronger.

I think you would have found evidence on the frame if it was in an accident in the past. Loving this project. I am deep into a 75 Convertible project at the moment that led me to your birdcage repair videos. Thanks for making those !

Just wanted to add one more clarification: the CCW wheels definitely weigh less than the Forgestars of the same size, the Hoosier A7s mounted on them also weight 3lbs less than the BFG Rivals mounted on the Forgestars. So the difference in weight is about half wheel and half tire.

Just to be clear, the frame and suspension are even in ride height and geometry from left to right, after the work Dave did at Solo Performance Specialties. So the frame appears to be good! Somehow, the body doesn't sit level on the frame, which probably isn't uncommon for these cars. Doesn't affect function, though, and I know Todd will sort it out.

You can adjust the body fitment to the frame by adding washers to the body mounts. I did that with my Chevy truck.

@@mayermotorsports I put some pretty healthy braces on mine. Even if it’s bent it’s not going anywhere. Mine was a little bent, wow what a hack they did, I did fix it myself.

I'm just wondering what gave you this fear ? is there an area of the frame that is suspect ? any Body shop will have the proper Gauge's to hang under it to test your theory .. 10 minutes .. and you have your answer And just so you know . NO Worthy Vette head would ever build a vette like that and not use the L88 427 .. with the natural grunt of a giant NO LS could ever match without spending BoCu bucks ..

Micheal, I appreciate you watching and commenting. Theres a lot that goes into a project like this. Making sure the car can corner balance without major adjustments is a big deal. Not all frame damage is obvious and I’m certainly not taking it to a body shop. Also, I’ve never in my 42 yrs ever seen a body shop take 10 minutes to do anything. I get your passion for vettes and that awesome. I am not a vette head. I’m a hot rod enthusiast that’s trying to build his own car on my own. It’s also a purpose built car so a bbc doesn’t make sense for why I’m building the car. yes the l88 hood is probably going away and I’ll probably get a Lt-1 “long” hood.
