My dad was super controlling over the thermostat and I was always miserable in the summer, sweating and getting sick from the heat. I vowed I would NEVER be that uncomfortable in my own home once I was an adult and paying the bills. I've kept that promise to myself and no matter what, my comfort is one thing I refuse to compromise on. I'm not wearing a coat in the house during winter time and I refuse to be sweating and miserable in the summer.

If you turn your heat down too low you will not save money if you are setting it low and cranking it back up daily. Everything in the house to the drywall gets to that cold temp and it takes a ton of energy to warm that up. Set it back a few degrees only. If you're going to be gone for week that's different. But daily? No, it doesn't help and may make it worse. If you have a heat pump definitely do not let it get too cold.
