My dad was super controlling over the thermostat and I was always miserable in the summer, sweating and getting sick from the heat. I vowed I would NEVER be that uncomfortable in my own home once I was an adult and paying the bills. I've kept that promise to myself and no matter what, my comfort is one thing I refuse to compromise on. I'm not wearing a coat in the house during winter time and I refuse to be sweating and miserable in the summer.

If you turn your heat down too low you will not save money if you are setting it low and cranking it back up daily. Everything in the house to the drywall gets to that cold temp and it takes a ton of energy to warm that up. Set it back a few degrees only. If you're going to be gone for week that's different. But daily? No, it doesn't help and may make it worse. If you have a heat pump definitely do not let it get too cold.

I don't play with heat, food, diesel or good shoes. Whatever financial goal I have must include these things. Life is for living.

How on earth did humans survive the winter in former centuries? It is perfectly fine to wear warmer clothing around the house in winter. Just make sure to air out the rooms so there is no mould.

I make my family dress warm and turn the heat down. We will not dress in shorts and tanks in the winter! It's to hot! We use pj's and blankets and turn it down at night too. And turn it off if we are away from home.

I'm a woman and I agree that the husband is right. But in her defense I lived in Massachusetts and oil was extremely expensive.
