Just lay down with the lights off will still give you some rest. It might not be as good as a full 30 min nap, its still better than being up and alert. For me, knowing this actually helped me sleep during naps cause I was less stressed about actually trying to nap. What I do is set the alarm for 20-30 min and just laydown. You'll still feel better at the end so don't stress about needing to fall asleep and just let yourself relax.

Literally just did this earlier today, I'm like well I need to get 1:30 hrs of nap, but I don't fall asleep instantly lol. If you ever feel like you’re tired after or didn’t get anything out of the nap, try random intervals for the timer too :) Sometimes I’ll set the timer for 17 minutes or 27 minutes to eek out just a few extra minutes of that sweet rest, depending on how exhausted I am or if I need to really grind out some work on personal projects. It gets really easy to tailor your nap to the day, but I really just keep it below 30 minutes, and usually more than 7 minutes.

I think staying awake regardless of having a “tired brain” or worse, “an exhausted brain” is bad. Meaning, if you don’t take a nap when you’re sleepy and consequently have to push yourself to stay awake later on when you’re really tired, I think this is mentally unhealthy. I’m no scientist, but I’m well aware that we are animals, just like cats and dogs, and the natural instinct of all animals is to go to sleep whenever they’re tired. Because we are more intelligent beings, we’re able to reason and override our natural desires to take a nap or sleep. I don’t know much about the consequences of sleep deprivation, but one can be sure that they’re not just in harms way when not getting enough sleep at night, but also when operating with a “tired brain” when they needed a nap and didn’t take one. To conclude, I will state that surely not all humans require naps. Not all humans experience fatigue in the later hours of the day. For those who are fresh, regardless of the time of day, certainly a nap is non-consequential. It’s certainly important though for others, such as me, ha ha, at 59, a cancer survivor with ongoing health issues. A nap for me is huge.

Then came a day when it was our squad's turn to train first aid which happened in the sports hall of a nearby barracks. It was a blessing to be inside for a while but the best part came when our trainer looked at his watch after he'd taken us through the program and said we were ahead of time and there was a good twenty minutes for us to nap if we wanted. We immediately lay down on the wooden floor and went to sleep. It was almost a miracle how much better I felt after that short sleep in a warm house.

What if you fall in a deep sleep for three hours after school
@Gman10242 жыл бұрын
Great topic that everyone can contribute much to, so here's my two cents. I use to take 20 minute naps in my car after eating my lunch for the three years I worked at a particular job, my last ten minutes of the hour lunch to walk back in, wash up, go to the bathroom, etc., and it was the perfect amount of time for me. People use to comment on how much energy I had every day, and of course being young helped. It was decades ago, but I never remember having to set my watch. After that, and as I got older, I can't take naps now, cause always feeling so exhausted and not sleeping well at night can have me conking out and sleeping for too long and when I wake, feel worse than I did before. Unfortunately, one thing I'm horrible at in life is sleeping. And more unfortunately, I think it's the same for a lot of people. I hate taking pills, which adds to my problem, but I know others who take too many pills and have issues because of it. I have a friend who goes to sleep every night on his back, sleeps through the night and is well rested, so I know it can be done. But no matter what methods I try, can't get it right. Oh well, time for my nap, I'm terribly busy. 😊
@marleymorningstar36712 жыл бұрын
It's also important to remember that the amount of time each person takes to enter into each of the different phases of sleep and the duration of time spent in each phase is different for everyone therefore the optimal amount of time for a nap varies. Personally find I function best when I sleep 5-6 hours at night and take an hour nap about 1 or 2 times a week.

Also that you have to have a very relaxed environment to comfortably take naps, or you never concentrate enough to be able to even start sleeping. Due to day-time being more loud than night-time generally. If you are living in a city, for example, kiss good naps goodbye. Unless you have a room designated specifically for napping. I have a professor, he said once that he is using his "out of comission" drum room as nap room, he lives right near a highway, so even just sleeping at night is impossible for him.

As someone with bipolar insomnia, sometimes I gotta sleep when I can get it. When my adrenaline kicks in hard I can stay up 24-72hrs with 0 sleep. Cool vid, I like the educational shorts.
